To me, the icon shows the battery level at a glance. It's pretty obvious to me if the battery is at 1/4 (25%) 1/2 (50%) etc....
I suppose it could be argued Apple should add it as an accessibility feature for those with poor spacial awareness?

If I need to know exactly, I swipe down or look at the battery widget. More often, I look at the battery widget just to see if my BeatsX headphones are charged, rather than the iPhone battery.

I've had multiple iphones and the first thing I do, and my friends do is enable battery percentage on all our friends phones and they love it! I follow this religiously and so do a bunch of people I know. NOW, you can't see it on the XS unless you swipe down from the top of the screen. I'm going this 50 times a day. What can't you just have a toggle so the battery icon at the top right turns into a %?? There is room. Just replace battery icon with percent, and add a toggle in battery settings. That toggle is gone now. It's TOO HARD.

I called apple and they said if more people send feedback they will add a toggle so it will show percent at top right. Hope you guys can help and that you agree??

[doublepost=1542378990][/doublepost]Can add the widget. Will show your phone and watch (if you are using one) percentages by swiping to the right...pretty easy.

That % is highly inaccurate. Not just on iPhones, but all phones. And that’s why battery companies like Mophi or Anker only give you 4 LEDS. Anything more precise is a crapshoot.

I’m guessing that’s why Apple wants to get away from it.
I think it’s not there because of the notch. Not enough space.

But not that obvious when it's between those values. Are you almost down to 25% or somewhere closer to 40% (if your gauge only shows 1/2 and 1/4 essentially)?

And then you do mention checking percentage anyway, so isn't it simpler just to have it there than to have it behind some extra actions that need to be performed (no matter how seemingly inconsequential they are)?

That's not that much different than accessing Control Center to get that information.
Swiping right and left anywhere on the screen is quicker and easier than having to go to the specific top right corner to access.

I do, however, understand it’s terribly troublesome to have to swipe a thumb either down and up or right and left, but I’m sure we can all pull through and support each other to make it work.o_O:D

By that logic not having to do anything at all to simply see the percentage that is essentially always available at the top of the screen is way simpler than any of that. ;) :D

The phone is going to consume a different amount of battery every time (due to cell towers, screen brightness/content, background tasks, etc...). The actual number isn't really a more relevant predictor of future battery life over the icon alone. You should easily be able to estimate the level within 10% just by looking at the icon, and to within 5% close to empty and full.

I mentioned that when I look at the battery widget, it's to see the charge of my headphones. I can easily tell how much battery I have by looking at the icon.

Then why didn’t they take it away from the new iPads?

At the same time you can't quite tell if you are at 1% or 8% remaining from the icon, for example, and there's a fair bit of difference between those.

Getting rid of the battery % helped me enjoy my phone more so I didn't feel like I had to plug it in all the time. I realize this is my problem but, really has helped me enjoy my phone more. Maybe getting older has something to do with it too. :p
I have to totally agree with this. I used to stress a lot about how much percentage I was using on my phone, but since I got the iPhone X, I feel much more free to not worry about the battery. I charge it up while I am working, and if for some reason I don't make a full day charge, the phone will let me know once it hits 20%. Life is too short to worry about percentages on a phone, let alone the "minor inconvenience" of having to swipe down to see the percentage of battery on your phone...

I’ll speak to Ive (he’s the software and hardware boss nowadays-right?) about it the next time we are at tea.:D

I actually wished that the non notched iPhones didn’t show the battery percentage when in low power mode. I don’t like having the percentage on my phone it adds clutter IMO.

Sounds daft but it’s the same for me too. I used to get a bit niggly about seeing it drop from 100 to 99, now I just use it and don’t worry about the percentage.

Realistically same thing could be said about many other things, like spending time on mostly inconsequential posting on online forums. ;) It's kind of like the whole "first world problem" thing. Realistically neither here nor there in the context of online discussions.

The corollary to this is that Apple will tell you--not ask you--what you want and need. I love the tech but not sure why they have this mentality.

I think asking people what they want is a bad idea. Which people do you listen to and who decides what actually does or doesn’t make it into the final product?
