How did everyone set up their 6's? I've read conflicting info about setting up as new vs restoring from backup. I've been getting about 7-8 hours which is about the same maybe a little worse than my 5s. I'm contemplating setting up as new but am worried about data in certain apps. For example I have a finance app to keep track of expenses. If I set up as new and re-download the app I'll lose all my data right for that app right?

Here's my latest:

Yep, you'll lose the app data. I think the workaround is to backup your apps to iTunes and that way it'll backup your app data too. I'm not 100% sure if this is the case, but I'll look into it tomorrow. Also, I restored from a backup and also setup as new and saw no difference in terms of battery life. I can still barely make it 7.5 hours on a charge with less than 5 hours of usage. Getting mine replaced tomorrow.

So your phone is draining to 0% after 5 hours of usage and 7.5 hours on standby?

Actually less than 5 hours of usage. This is with minimal app use (mostly texting), brightness kept mostly between 20-50%, and on wifi 85-90% of the time. Brought it to my Apple Store where they said there was nothing to do and it's all software (even though this was 2 day after wiping and setting it up as new).

I called AppleCare and talked to a senior advisor who said this is definitely NOT normal and to go back to the store, give them my case number (where he put in notes to tell them to replace it for me), and if they still won't then to just call back and they'll mail me one.

I'm having the exact same issues. I'm on wifi (with wifi calling enabled, mind you, so cell service isn't the cause of battery drain) 85-90% of the day barely even using my phone/apps other than texting, which I highly doubt is a big battery drain, and I still can't even manage to get 5 hours of usage. I talked to an AppleCare senior advisor and he told me to bring it back to my local Apple Store, show them the case notes (he added notes on there to explicitly tell them that I deserve a replacement because they had denied me already) and that if they don't replace it, to call them back and they'll mail me out a new one. Definitely get it checked out and if your Apple Store won't replace it, try talking to AppleCare, specifically a senior advisor. They seem to be very understanding.

Yes I did speak to Apple care already, multiple times and he basically said just take it in Apple so they can check it. Hopefully it all goes smoothly and they'll exchange it for me! Seems strange some people are getting 9/10 hours and I'm struggling to get 5/6 :/

Also there's an app called normal that seems quite good, it basically tells you which apps are using a lot of battery and how much battery you will save by closing certain apps. It seems to be worth it for 99p imo

Today on my iPhone 6 Plus with everything on (WIFi, Bluetooth, Location, and stuff) I got 8 Hours and 30 Minutes in usage (30-50% brightness). Not sure if this is okay or not. I simply used my iPhone for browsing, probably like 30 minutes of gaming, and watching videos like YouTube and Hulu. I'll post a picture after my iPhone turns back on. Is 8 1/2 hours good or no?

Also, Apple should require all the apps to have Location: "While Using". I hate that most of them that I have only have "Always" and "off" option. Probably killing battery a lot.

Somethings wrong then,

IDK, I always set up my new iPhone as new and manually put things back on my phone for the best battery life, sounds like there might be a software glitch with your phone causing battery drain

Have you followed the battery life tips?

I set up as new every time I get a new device.
I've reset network settings and reset all settings.
I've been very selective with background refresh. I now only have 1 app switched on.
I've got most apps location services set to "while using", or "always" if that's the only option.

System services locations are as per the attachments. I switched most off to being, and now I switch them off as I notice the icon and decide it's not needed.

IP6.

So far so good. I optimised a few things here and there.

Let me know how that goes.

The fresh restore was the ticket and pretty average with what everyone else is experiencing. Its a pain but highly recommend for anyone with a 6 (possibly 6+) with battery life issues. Must be the switch from Ios 7 to 8 that the back up didn't take well to. My wifi has been very finicky and did have some issues with it connecting at home and at work this weekend so that has been my next irritation. Anyone else?? I have reset the network settings 2 now and seems to be fine then issues arise again. For now just glad my battery life is better but doesn't seem to be as good as everyone else's and have done 2 cycles. Just glad its better, what do you all think?

I ended up doing a setup from scratch on my 6 and it tremendously improved its battery life. Oddly though I used the same restore on my iPhone 6 plus and that seems to have been fine. Regardless, my 6 was going down 20% every 1 hour, after starting fresh and using it for 2 hours yesterday I was only down to 78%.

I need some help guys... I currently am not getting as good as batter life on my 6 as I think I could be getting..How do I new, clean restore? I've never used icloud and have always just backed up and restored from itunes whenever I get a new iphone...I'd like to try a fresh install so see if it improves my battery. How do I do this? I don't want to lose my text messages, photos, notes and I have a texting app loaded with text messages I don't want to lose..

Here is my latest 6+, not very happy with battery life. Feel as if usage is much higher then I am actually using. What do you think?

My iPhone 6. Still waiting for it to get to 0% so I can give it its first full charge. Seems to be going on forever though lol.

I'd love to hear from someone that listens to a lot of podcasts.
I'm self employed and listen to podcasts mostly using overcast, Apple maps to find the next job and a few phone calls.

I'm still in Portugal for a few days. I'm enjoying myself here, but I can't wait to get my hands on my iPhone 6 ;)

Love all the info so far and I am subscribed!

Same, I'm only getting 5-6 hours of battery life. The most I've managed is just under 8 hours, but that on a day I was using WiFi and making a lot of phone calls. Maybe yet another clean restore will help. I restored and set my phone as a new device on iOS 8, but have yet to do the same for iOS 8.0.2. Someone said that Apple recommended restoring via iCloud and that that actually worked.

I started restoring from iCloud and then cancelled and set up as new. So I thought maybe that was why but after doing a clean install of 8.0.2 and setting up as a new, I'm still only getting 6 hours usage on Wifi with my settings optimised for saving battery. No location services or background app refresh and reduce motion is on. Screen brightness on 30-40%. Hoping there is a fault with it because it's annoying seeing some people get 8-9 hours usage on LTE when I'm struggling for 6 on WiFi.

FWIW, I initially restored from iTunes backup on my 6. Usage times weren't all that great. I also had a problem where locations services was on ALL THE TIME. It appeared to be Motion Calibration (the triangle (showing active location services) stayed on constantly).

I normally restore from iCloud and haven't ever had a problem with it, so over the weekend I restored to 8.0.2 and restored from iCloud. Now the location services triangle appears for a few seconds when the phone is moving (Motion Calibration), but now the triangle goes away (like I suspect it's supposed to).

I'm really not getting the battery life that everyone else is. I just have to unlock the thing and it loses a %.

Standby is brilliant but as soon as i touch my 6+ it loses %

This is what my iPhone 6 finished on.

All settings on apart from Bluetooth and 4G as my area doesn't have 4G coverage. Location services on and mail set to push.

I don't get great signal at home but was on wifi about 60-70% of the time.

Not bad at all in my opinion.

it seems like everyone who is getting really good batt life is using stock apps. safari looks to be most used on those screenshots this is prob what apple uses to post theirs.

use third party apps and your batt life seems to be greatly reduced.

Ok, after a really bad experience on my first day with my plus in which I just managed 6 hours in total, I decided to reset my phone as a new one and now it is starting to look promesing:
