I don't get it either. I did notice sometimes I would come back to my computer and iTunes would have an error up saying something about unable to find iPhone, or could not sync with it for some random reason, even though it wasn't plugged in, and I had never told it to sync. I think it's trying to locate it for some reason that I don't understand.

Either way though. I woke up this morning, and within a couple hours battery was down to like 85% and I hadn't even done anything. I unchecked sync over wifi, and over the next several hours the phone has only gone from 85% down to 82% with me checking things periodically.

Ok ill turn off wifi sync. tbh i don't think its a big deal,i like using a cable,10x faster.

The number button that used to be lager is now smaller and there is a microphone in its place. Oh well.

Yep. This is the only update that really annoys me.

Went to bed with 100% and woke up with 99%. This is with two reminders and every possible feature except bluetooth turned on.

I went to bed with 100% and woke up with 98%. I had everything turned on also... However, I did drain my battery the first day till it turned off by itself and fully charged it. Maybe that is why...

ill do that as well..drain it and just plug it in

Mine wont die,

6hours 43mins usage. 30% videos/games rest web browsing
12hours 55mins standby

been at 1% for last hour of usage.

I think I've solved my battery draining issues. I turned off the 3G Microcell in my home and I'm getting a lot slower draining now. More in line with my 4.

So I have run down my battery twice in two days now with the 4s.

Trying to figure why its draining faster than the 4.

Both times I have gotten 9 plus hours of usage and 12 hours of standby.

However something is wrong. Like this morning I unplugged it from the charger at 7am. Iphone was dead at 7pm. That's the 12 hours of standby.

But there's no way I could have used the iphone for 9 hours today. I watched football for 4hours and didn't touch the phone. Only received 2 emails and 6 texts. So the iphone must have been connecting for 9 hours? If I used it for 9her hours and standby was 12dead hours shouldn't this mean the iphone should have died around 3am instead of 7pm?

Mine came with a 2 wonderful inventions one is a USB cable the other is a wall plug. They work really well together. If you use them when you go to bed you wake up in the morning with a charged battery. Apple they think of everything.

I'm at 2 hrs 46 mins of usage, 3 hrs 33 mins of standby. Battery down to 20%. Fully charged it overnight. Mainly wi-fi Internet use. No siri. Most notices on.
This is worse than my 2+ yr old 3G! This can't be normal. Gonna try a restore as new phone later and see if that helps.

My phone got down to 4-5% with a little under 4 hours of usage. I brought it back to AT&T and got a new one. Girl told me " I was the only one" so far who had experienced this problem.

After a few hours with my new phone I can already tell the battery is not draining as fast :)

I posted this on the troubleshooting forums as well, I was having really fast drain as well. I turned off location services, turned off the cellular option in iCloud for updating documents, and then closed all processes. Since then it's been draining at a more similar rate to my iPhone 4. Not sure which of these is the ultimate culprit, I actually think it might be one of the apps.

Ive been using the same restore file since the 3G (3x 3G's, 2 iPod Touch 4gen and now a 4S) so Im doing a complete restore and minimizing my apps. We'll see if this affects anything.

Silly question, why are people leaving their phone off of the charger while they are sleeping? That is when I charge my phone. When I wake up it is ready to take on the day. Just asking.

You're very lucky.

Can you please describe the settings you have? Do you have iCloud and Siri on?

my usage is so far:

6hours 11mins. 15% battery life.
Standby for 21hours 11minutes

As you can tell, i didn't really do much with the phone. It wasn't even being used as i would on an average day. Just a few mins of Siri, and a minute or two of video, mainly text and a bit of Safari browsing, some light app use, but nothing substantial. And no apps in multitasking bar.

Clearly something is wrong with my 4S..

How many iPhone 4s users will wake up this morning with ridiculously low batteries? It seems with Siri, location based reminders, iCloud, iTunes sync, etc. This may be a real issue.

I'm not against charging my new phone whenever I'm near a plugin, but that kind of defeats the point of having a mobile phone. I will try turning off features to save power and see if it defeats the whole new ios5 experience.

Please, other iPhone 4s users weigh in this morning, honestly.

Oh for the love of... Stop the "gate" stuff... Please, please just stop it. So far after a few days of use I see no difference, at all, between my old 4 and the new 4S.

Mine currently has 5 hours and 5 minutes of usage with 7 and a half hours on standby at 15% battery life remaining. My iphone 4 has 6 hours of usage and 16 hours of standby with 23% remaining. I disabled iCloud and wifi sync on my 4S and left them enabled on my 4, still doesn't compare. Why would apple even mention improved battery at the keynote?

The only thing i had off was bluetooth. I have icloud and siri running, though i didnt use siri at all during the whole duration.

Also it did finally die.

After the 5.0 update my 4 has been getting noticeably worse battery life. It's disappointing.

I'm blaming it on iCloud not working for me. I've tried everything and it just will not send me a verification email. It's frustrating. I think that my phone's constantly trying to connect to iCloud but it can't, or something, I dunno. It's frustrating.

Sorry for the rant.

I went to bed with 100% and woke up with 96%, perfectly acceptable to me.

Not sure of this was a change for iOS 5 or not but is anyone else frustrated with the change to vague terms in the "usage" setting? I can remember when I got my 4 that this would show the time since last full charge and would display a notification if the phone had been plugged in since then.

Now it seems even if my phone is at 15% battery and I charge to 20% I never get a notification about the phone being plugged in since last full charge and the timer just resets even though a full charge hasn't been reached.

Just wondering when this change was put in place and if it bothers anyone else?

Well I can only report my actions that resulted in a solution for the battery draining issue, but I cannot specifically determine what fixed it.

iPhone 4S that has been restored through iTunes and set up as a NEW phone, and thus lost all application data.

Full iCloud features are on, except email is set to fetch. This includes Siri, location services, photo stream, etc.

This morning I played a very demanding game and drained it complete to 0%. Which caused a force shut down. I connected it to a power source to charge it, but oddly enough it had a huge kernel panic. In any case I forced a reset and let it charge to 100%.

Some things of note is that it took about 30 mins to go from 98% to 100%.

None the less after a side by side test next to an iPhone 4 that has not experienced the issue it shows slightly better battery consumption.

Also of note this was only done after I've exhausted every single possible suggestion made both on these forums and the Apple discussion boards.
