I have not charged my iPhone 4S since I got it Friday at 6pm. It still has 55% battery remaining. :)

It's werid..standby time for 6 hours a night only drops it 1-3%

But a few i use it a few times and put it in stand by..it goes down 1% for every 20 min...that make no sense to me

Siri is draining your battery. Turn it off if you don't use it.

And location services. GPS = huge battery hog

I think I'm in the exact same boat as you. I've just been trying to charge it to 100% then let it drain all the way down and repeat.

The first day I was taking screen shot images every few minutes to document the free fall of battery life.

Also, my iPhone 4S seems to really run hot at times.

People are saying Siri uses up battery, is this true? Like if I leave Siri ON and NEVER use it/him will he/it still somehow use up battery? Not doing anything..?

It shouldnt matter if Siri is on or off, should it? I mean its still not an active process on your iPhone if you never use it, so the battery life should not be affected. Or maybe it is running in the background, because it pops up super quick when you hold the home button down...

Not sure what to say about the battery on my 16GB 4S yet, I was on the phone for about 90 minutes last night and found after the call that it had dropped from around 90% to around 56%... and then from around 48% to 23% in standby over several hours during the night. Siri is on and location services are on for only Siri, Compass & Maps. WiFi is on, Bluetooth is off. Spending the first several charges running the battery totally dry and charging it back up to full to see what happens.

Sick phone otherwise!

This is my wife's first smartphone of any kind and she is scared about battery drain. We want to get a bedside cradle to hold and charge the phone at night.

Can any of you vets recommend a good cradle? We saw the one on apple. Is that a good one?

Appreciate it.

The iPhone 4 / iPhone 4S "Dock" costs 29 bucks and can't be used with a case. I can't vouch for it 'cause I've never used it, but it seems overpriced.

For me it doesn't matter is siri is on..location serves ect..all drop the same when i am sending txts and in standby during the day. Stand by at night is much different..as in uses less juice than standby mode during day when it's getting used some

Making a 5 min call drops it 2%

Yes it does. But I'll buy it if it's good. The reviews on all the docks were mixed and we do understand she will need to take the case off. Just looking for anyone with a satisfied purchase who can recommend.

So don't know if this was mentioned already but Apple themselves quote the standby time as being 100 hours less than the iPhone 4 and iPhone 3GS.

(this is from here.)

Obvious battery hogs are Siri and probably the A5 chip itself, no? Doesn't the iPad 2 last less time on a charge than the first generation iPad?

Granted, the standby time on the 4S seems to be even a lot less than what Apple are quoting on their site. My phone lost almost 20% overnight. Only time will tell if this is consistent behavior or if the battery simply needs more conditioning.

coming from an android which completely destroyed my battery even in standby.. im content with the batt on the iphone 4s although i guess it could be better for usage.

anyways my issue is that my phone gets warm quickly.... anyone else have this? my iphone 4 never got warm....

anyonee?

I'm at 2 hrs 46 mins of usage, 3 hrs 33 mins of standby. Battery down to 20%. Fully charged it overnight. Mainly wi-fi Internet use. No siri. Most notices on.
This is worse than my 2+ yr old 3G! This can't be normal. Gonna try a restore as new phone later and see if that helps.

Went to bed with 100% and woke up with 99%. This is with two reminders and every possible feature except bluetooth turned on.

Almost the same thing here. I went to bed with 97% and woke up a little less than 7 hours later with 94% and I have everything turned on, including Bluetooth.

Think about it... 200 hours is the standby time, which means every 2 hours would be 1%. If you sleep for 8 hours that would be a 4% batter drain.

But really, people need to understand that they need to "train" their batteries.

So, I've been following "batterygate" closely, trying to decide if it is real, sort of real, or mostly imagined. After the mostly overblown attenagate, I'm weary of speculation each iPhone release.

My first impression has been that yes, the iPhone 4S is more battery hungry than my iPhone 4 (or even 3GS) was. But, having bought mine on a Friday morning, I haven't had a completely normal day with it.

What I have had, is days of abnormally high usage...playing with Siri, testing the camera, taking joy in how fast apps open and just generally how snappy things are.

But, this being said, with what I would call "moderately high" usage yesterday, I was able to drain my battery from 96% to 26% in about 8 hours. This seemed faster than normal.

This morning I noticed something odd, after taking my phone off the charger in less than a minute I noticed the battery was already at 99%. I reached over and put the phone back on the charger...it immediately ready 100% again. I took it off, it immediately decreased to 99%.

Even more weirded out, I put it back on the charger. This time it took probably 5 minutes to get back to 100%.

After leaving it there for awhile, I took it off the charger again and placed it on my desk. I went and started getting ready for the day and came back 20 minutes later...still at 100%. I then went to church, purposefully only checking it infrequently. I sent a few texts...one with Siri, took one photo...it was still at 100%.

Since then, I've used it fairly lightly. Siri a couple of times. A few more texts. A google search. As of right now, my battery is at 88% having been unplugged since 9:40 AM EST. With a total of 1 hour usage and about 4 hours and 45 minutes of standby.

This seems fairly normal to me.

So, I'm wondering if there is a difference (bug?) in the battery controller that prevented me from fully charging it the last couple of days. The fact that it took 5 minutes to get from 99 to 100 after just being unplugged would seem to indicate something fishy going on. If this is true, I'd think a software update could solve the problem.

The real problem is the psychology of this...I'm not using my phone normally right now. I'm either using it more than normal or less than normal. I'm too conscious of the battery to just use it like I usually would.

Has anyone else noticed anything like this? Clearly there are some people having very good experiences. A lot having below average.

In closing, I should say I have everything turned on, including Find My Friends and bluetooth.

Internet use: Up to 6 hours on 3G, up to 9 hours on Wi-Fi

For every 1 hour your on the internet you would use up over 11.1% of your battery life. You were on there for 2.75 hours, which should have drained 30.5% of your battery.

Standby time: Up to 200 hours
For every 2 hours of standby, you should lose about 1% of battery. So that is another almost 2% lost from your battery.

That is 32.5% out of 100% which means you should have 67.5% remaining, if everything else from bluetooth to mail is turned off. ;)

This. And a good place to start is here.

Something definitely is wonky. I unplugged my iphone from my computer at 97% and it jumped to 100% as soon as i unplugged.

Something's not right with your phone...my 4S was at around 50% usage after 3.5 hours use and 3 hours standby.

I usually charge overnight so I don't know about this standby issue...

Got 7 and half hours + of heavy usage out of mine yesterday...
16 hours of standby
and I was down to 10%.

Coming from a 3GS, and probably any other phone, battery has been amazing for me, so far!
