I feel like my 4s battery is better than my 4 with same exact options selected. Brightness over halfway. Gps and all that on cept bluetooth and it will easily last me a day and a half with web browsing, music, games...

it's good to read these posts with positive experiences. What network are you on?

does apple response to this problem yet?

no matter what i do, it seems my 3gs has same battery life after 2 yrs usage with the brand new 4s..

Battery just got down to 10%

5 hours of usage
1 day 20 hours of standby

Was on facebook and it went down 3% in 2 min

Battery seems to be getting worse..wtf

I am on the 4S and my battery seems to be suffering from all this as well, not so much fun.

Doing some texting and 3 tweets and it went 56 down to 48 in 45mins

Didn't experience this on the 4

I decided to see how far I could push my battery today, so after I charged up to 100% last night I took it off the charger and went to sleep. I got 7 hours of usage (texting all day, tweeting, emails set to push automatically, phone calls on occasion, listening to music) and 11 hours on standby. I spent most of that time off of wifi.

If I had done this to my EVO it would have tapped out after 3 hours of use and 3 hours on standby. My battery life seems just fine.

Wish there was a list of proven list of items that can be turned off, that lower battery usage, other than bluetooth, location services etc.

There seems to more items to turn off than ever though. I turn crap off and forget to turn it back on. Hopefully a few full charges or future (soon) updates, will help.

I unplugged my iPhone at 10am ET. By 3:15pm it was completely dead. Basic stuff, texting, music while walking thru the city.

I charged it to 100% and now i'm at 9%.

Bull. ****.

My usage is at 1hr and standby 5hrs, 21mins. Battery is at 77% and all I've done is text and surf the app store. I noticed an enormous drop when in the app store - went from around 95 to 80% in 15-20mins. Also the one side of the phone becomes extremely hot, not sure what to do

What's Apple saying?

I just played around with my newly restored iPhone 4S.. and it's still the same.
The right side of the phone is extremely hot, to a point where it hurts my hand, and i watched the battery go from 99% to 91% in a few minutes..all while browsing the App Store.

I'm guessing the dual core A5 chip is on the right side? Because man it's being worked crazy just to browse the App Store..

Is anyone else being affected by these symptoms?

This is ridiculous. I'm guessing it's a hardware problem, so looks like i'll get this guy replaced.

Ditto.

I think the first batch of the iPhone 4S are more likely to be defected.

not sure what to do???
keep using the phone, you have nearly 80% of your battery left.

Figured I would give this a try.. See what happens tomorrow
https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2481216?start=0&tstart=0

Even though this thread was posted for the iphone 4, there's a person on the last page of the thread that says it fixed his issue for his iphone 4S. Couldn't hurt to try! I'll repost for the lazy fingers.

Basically, it says to delete your email accounts, reboot, reset your network settings, and re-add your email.

"I had the same issue many have reported here and in comments on blogs, where their +_battery was draining at least twice as fast_+ as on an iPhone 3GS with iOS 4.

Some threads suggest +_this happens to iPhone 4 when restored from a 3G or 3GS_+, and indeed, that's what I'd done. A few people said that resetting to factory settings and installing everything fresh solved the issue, giving them better battery life than they'd seen on any prior iPhone.

Many of my apps have files or settings stored in them, so I didn't want to have to set everything up again. A fresh install is a real pain.

Deep in an iPhone 3G thread mentioning a similar battery problem after upgrading to iOS 4, someone said they'd deleted all their mail accounts, and set those up fresh, which solved the issue for them. I tried that today, and it worked.

*_BEFORE AND AFTER_*:

Thursday and Friday, the iPhone 4 went from 100% to 15% in under 6 hours. Today, after this fix, the iPhone 4 is at 87% after 12 hours. Thursday and Friday the phone was hot to the touch whenever I picked it up. Today it's always cool. Apps usage and movement among coverage areas on each day have been exactly the same. The only change was resetting up mail.

*_STEPS TO FIX_*:

Do this on WiFi so you can sync and check mail fast.

1. Delete all mail accounts.

2. If MobileMe user, delete MobileMe account, and remove all Calendars, Contacts, Notes, etc., from the phone (so you don't have dupes when you re-sync).

3. Turn off phone, and back on again.

4. If MobileMe user, add MobileMe account first. I enabled all options, even Find My iPhone (Thursday and Friday I had it off, in case it was using power). Wait long enough for contacts and calendars to sync, check to make sure. I use MobileMe mail on Push.

5. Add back each additional mail account. I have 5. I am in a marginal coverage area, so I set these accounts on Fetch Hourly. I also have "Preview 5 Lines" (I think the default is Preview 2 Lines. This doesn't matter.)

6. Go into Mail, go to the MobileMe Inbox, and scroll your way down letting the messages come in. You can see them come in when you see the Preview Lines update, and then scroll some more.

7. Go into each additional mail account's Inbox, scroll your way down, letting the messages come in.

8. Go to the combined Inbox if you use that, make sure all the messages are in.

9. The WiFi activity spinner may remain spinning even after Mail says it is done Checking Mail. This is because other parts of mail accounts are being synced for the first time. Let the iPhone sit in Mail combined inbox until the spinner stops. Quit Mail, go back in, and watch the spinner after it's done Checking Mail. If the spinner doesn't stop after < 5 seconds or so, let Mail sit again. Once it's caught up, going into mail will Check Mail, and the spinner will stop a few seconds after as it should.

10. You're done.

Hopefully your phone stays cool and your battery life reflects the boost from the 20% larger battery. If not, the next step to try is Reset Network Settings, and finally try a factory reset and installing everything fresh instead of doing a restore. Hopefully you won't need to do that. I didn't."

Not sure what to do about it being so hot I meant. For the amount of usage I thought that seemed low

FWIW, I noticed my iPad2s battery is loosing ALLOT of juice since I updated to 5. The cloud must be suckin' power!

I deleted my 2 email account..turned off and then turned it back on and reset network settings...lets see if it changes anything

I'm sorry, but I'm turning everything on.

I want my iPhone to automatically lock on to the nearest WiFi source.

I want my iPhone to automatically connect to my car.

I want to use Find my Friends.

I want to be able to enjoy a nice, bright screen.

I want to Photostream my pictures.

I want to backup to iCloud.

I want to tether my MacBook Air.

I want to get my emails NOW. And I want to hear Worf say "Captain, incoming message" every time I get an email.

Why else did I get an iPhone? If I can't get it to do all that and I need to start turning things off, I might as well get two tin cans and a string....

With all that on, you might NEED at two cans and a string, at least after an hour! :)

For the record my battery is going great. No complaints whatsoever and certainly nothing like the experiences people are mentioning here. I have everything on except for bluetooth as I have no need for it.

Mine is an iPhone 4S 64 GB Black if it maters.

100% when i took it off about 12pm its now 1030 and I have sent tons of text, slight web browsing, some light movie watching and some phone calls..

phone is at 31%..Wifi was on most of the time, take it off when i leave my house, brightness is a bit over 50%..

Is this good life or what? looks like its fine for my needs,we will see.All i know is that in 25 days it still gets worse ill go get a new one. around that time they should have a second batch of phones.

My battery is awesome over here...

Elaborate, if you have a minute? I don't use my phone all day but I'm used to charging my 3GS every other day even after 2.5 years... but after I updated to iOS 5 it started dropping SUPER fast. It really sounds more like an iOS 5 problem than a 4S problem.

Just curious: Did you load your phone from a backup or as a new iPhone?
