I have been using a Gum Pro to get me through the day until this is addressed by Apple, hopefully via an update. I thought I would spread the word as it works well for me, fully charging my phone three times. Not meant as a fix, but enables me to get on with actually working and living.

after i turned off everything in my locations systems thingy mine is just slightly worse than my iphone 4. Hopefully it stays that way.

Sometimes i Could get roughly 6 hours of usage out of my phone..
This morning i did a restore, set up as new. ANd my battery life was WORST!!
I was going to get under 5 hours of usage after 1 charge..
Went to apple Got a replacement.. But i was hoping for a phone with an entire different serial number.. Both of my phones started with C39G... smh..
This phone doesn't seem to be to much better but not really sure yet. Going to calibrate the battery. It came with 75% charge.

Anyone notice that the last 1 % seems to last longer? Mine has been sitting at 1% while streaming Pandor for the last 15 mins or so... strange.

I am pretty sure the people who restored from a previous iPhone backup are having issues, and the people that set up as new phone are fine.

Nope...I bought a brand new phone last night (a 64GB iPhone4S) and took it off the charger this morning when I left the house at 7:15 and now seven hours later (with very minimal usage) I am down to 27%.

My last phone - a Motorola Atrix4G - lasted longer than that! I could easily get through a full day on a single charge. I am going to let it drain down to zero and give it a full charge to see if that helps.

And for the record I have WiFi and Bluetooth off. I also have everything killed except mail and the phone.

Update

So, i'm down to 1% now, it might stay that way a while but I'm calling to call it.

After making the changes in the earlier posts of mine yesterday, notably turning off the cell tower search, my decline slowed to about 1-2% an hour.

the usage in this figure seems high, I know i downloaded a bunch of app updates, and did quite a bit of imessage and texting and about 1.25 hours of phone calling.

I made these changes when the phone was at 74%, so it could probably last even longer. I'm going to do a full charge now and see how it rides over the next couple days, but for now i'm happy and don't see ANY downside to turning off cell tower search.

Right now I am at 36 minutes usage and 6 hours, 46 minutes standby and battery percentage is 76%

This seems really pretty bad (like back to iPhone 3g)

did you charge it to 100%? if not, do that, then let it run to power off, then recharge to 100%

worked for me, but i also modified a few settings here and there

It would be nice if Apple would include a more verbose usage tool a la Android. There are times that I am fairly certain the radio is what is causing the drain, then there are times that I am pretty certain CPU usage is causing it. But there is no easy way to tell.

I'm rockin 13% remaining w/ over 7 hours usage and 1 day 4 hours standby. I haven't turned any location crap off except the iAds nonsense and diagnostics.

Your numbers and my numbers are well within spec.

I think I found something that might be causing this.

I have outlook calendars alerts going to the locked screen. On the locked screen, sometimes the entries freak out. It's flashing text back and forth. I wish I had another video cam so I could take a pic of this

When it happens my phone starts getting very warm, even with the display off.

Bingo.

There was a post on the dev forums prior to GM release about a process on the phone related to calendars that was repeatedly crashing and restarting, and the symptom was this flickering nonsense. This would overwork the CPU, increasing heat and killing battery.

However I believe this is one cause of many for the battery issues because I, for example, also have Outlook cal alerts going to the lock screen but I've yet to have these symptoms.

If all of them were just as good as that last percent. Yes mine is the same.

I'm not using any calendars and I have 1.6 hours of active battery life.

Yes, I had the same thing happen. My 1% last about five minutes compared to the usual one minute per percentage.

It all depends on what each individual has running so my example may be moot but... I went to sleep with 55%, woke up with 51% and about 14 notifications.

I'm on my way to the apple store tonight based on the image below. This was with email and iCloud off as in not even activated...

Between the posts here and those on apple.com forum, it really doesn't seem to me that there is a "cause" other than the phones being very poorly made. It seems to me that there are 3 different phones: those with good battery life, those with terrible battery life and those that may as well not even have a battery for how long they stay charged.

Be sure to turn off locations for the weather app. Every time you open the notifications center (slide it down) it locates your position for the weather widget.

I typically get about

Usage: 6 hours 30 mins
Standby: 11 hrs

on my iphone 4 running iOS 5

My battery has been pretty good, especially after turning off a lot of location services a few days ago. Last night I went to bed at 10 with a full charged battery, read a few websites (Wireless, not 3G), and went to sleep with 90-95% battery.

Got up and had 9hrs 25 minutes since last charge, 4hrs 50 mins usage and 52% battery :(

I had turned on wi-fi sync, so I wonder if that was it, even though I had not synchronised at all since the battery was full.

I doubt that it would affect the battery. It only checks it for a second.

Or anything IP related? Which could be browsing, iMessaging, Siri, etc.

Right right.
At 5 hours of minimal usage, i'm at 25%. This is reminding me of the battery problems i had with my iPhone 3G!

What is the ideal battery life, that we all should be getting with minimal usage (simple texting, some light browsing, few emails sent and received, some phone calls, listening to music)?

I never had an iPhone 4, so i don't know what battery life to expect, but i do know bad battery life when i see it and this is horrible.

Also, does anybody know when the next batch of iPhone 4S' will be sold?
