Ha... You seem more riled up than he does. Afwiw, pointing out that it is a promo photo does not change his point at all.

Actually it does.

His point was that the reporter was a hypocrite for using apple products to write this story... while looking at a promotional shot.

I'm not sure what point he really has, except that he thinks promotional photos represent the real lives of the people in them.

For all we know, the person in the photo is an actor and not a member of the production team.

We also don't know what the documentary is going to say - everyone assumes it will be negative, but it's not a given. If the documentary's position is ultimately positive to Apple is the model (err, I mean original author of entire show) still a hypocrite for posing with some Apple products?

The BBC and the reporting it supports needs to die, it's a politically biased corp ran by the government that has turned a blind eye to pedophilia, and because i own a TV i'm legally required to support it as well.. The whole thing needs disbanding.. but this is another debate:p

Man, how old are you?

Controlled by the government?! Hahahahaha. Oh wait, you were serious? Let me laugh even harder.

I think you need to brush up on your history and current affairs my friend.

That statement alone proves nothing other than you know very little on how the BBC is run. You must be trolling because your statement is laughable.

What I absolutely love about the BBC is how my left-leaning friends will say it supports them and rips on the right, whilst my right-leaning friends will say it supports them and rips on the left. It's great.

person 1: "we need a story that's going to grab viewers"
person 2: "Let's do a story on the Apple supply pipeline and how bad some of the Apple employees are treated"
person 3 (voice of reason)"But, these employees don't really work for Apple. Plus, wouldn't the supply pipeline and factories also handle other companies products as well? Why not just report on the overall story and not just limit it to Apple?"
Person 1 and 2: "clean out your desk."
And the anti Apple party rejoiced, for they saw the report and found it to be good.

As Apple are probably one of, if not THE largest customer for many suppliers, why shouldn't they focus on Apple?

The BBC is excellent, partly because it's not politically biased at all!

Would it be possible to wait and see what he documentary actually says and how it says it before we pass judgment? It seems too many on this thread have passed some sort of judgment without knowing anything and that could later prove to be embarrassing on their part.

Thank you.

Because it obscures the issue. Don't you think it would be useful to compare suppliers for other companies? What if they're worse than Apple's supplier conditions? What if they are better, then it illustrates proven things Apple could be doing, etc.

Nonsense. When the BBC did documentaries about the farmers who work for McDonalds, they chose McDonalds because they sell the largest amount of hamburgers. Apple sell the largest amount of personal devices so it makes full sense to focus on Apple.

If you compared everyone, it wouldn't be a documentary about the working conditions in manufacturing for the world's biggest supplier of personal devices would it?

And lets face it. Working conditions will be poor in manufacturing no matter the company. Apple are going to look bad and you all know Apple will look bad because now according to MR members, the BBC are some God awful corporation that should never have existed... blah... blah... blah... I hope the focus on Apple will put pressure on them to change and to set an example to the rest of the industry.

So are they going to look into every other company that manufactures stuff in China? The focus is on Apple for one reason: Apple draws eyeballs.

Exactly. I'd love to know how many of these people walk the talk. I'll bet most don't.

so apple is the premier brand and world leader only when it suits them? they want to be admired as style and trend setter but not have any responsibility.

its pure idiocy (but a very much expected response) that one has to not own an apple phone or computer or some other brands to be concerned about the conditions and treatment in the whole process.

as for people shifting the focus on foxconn. they and their like do what apple and other purchasers ask them to do.

we as consumers of apple products are paying a good amount of money so there is no reason for this.

It's worrying that it's based on Apple and not just the working conditions of the factory in general (Foxconn?) .. would they give a ***** if they didn't have a big technology brand like Apple to front it all?

It's all about achieving high audience ratings, but you surely wouldn't get the same result with an Foxconn documentation....

Well, if they are going off the largest amount of devices, wouldn't they then target Samsung? I mean, they ARE the current leader, right?
I guess a Samsung story just isn't as "hard hitting" as an Apple story, right?

Heh, compared "everyone"? I think similar companies to Apple would be appropriate and not out of the scope of a documentary on technology supplier working conditions. Apple has already made (or said they have made) many changes. Did these set an example or not?

i mean outside of the small % that visit sites like this who knows what foxconn is?

with ipads included isnt apple the biggest seller of computers? arent they the biggest seller of "premium" cell phones?

Possibly, but this isn't about who sold the most. This is simply about Apple and their practices. I don't think the BBC cares a whit about whether they've sold the most "premium" handsets, and neither do the viewers. BBC is looking at ratings and the viewers are going to be watching to see how they tear Apple up over this.

Nothing changes. Somebody raises legitimate concerns about working conditions for the people making Apple's devices and all the sheep come crawling out of the woodwork like little Apple lap dogs. I'm disgusted and ashamed to be part of a community that thinks like this.

Nice trolling. Maybe when you can actually discuss the story and not call the opposing side "sheep", then maybe we can actually discuss the story.

What? I'm commenting on the reaction to the story.

The story seems fine to me. Panorama is a very well respected program with excellent journalists. They will tell it how they find it - in other words they will tell and show the truth.

I'll be interested to watch the program because unlike some people I actually care about working conditions for people in China and Indonesia.

im not saying it as about who sold the most.

the premium handset was tongue in cheek as thats what its apparently all about on this board when new numbers are released.

however apple is the biggest known brand, one of the biggest sellers overall and the biggest in some markets and its as simple as that. apple wasnt picked from obscurity just to spare samsung or sony.

The defensiveness over brand [like it's your kid or something] that happens on these and similar forums can be amusing in limited quantity. On stories like this, though, it's just disturbing and disheartening. Doesn't matter the brand or corporation.

Politically biased, run by money grabbing hyaenas? Quite likely. Run by the government? Only in the government's wildest dreams!

It's Panorama. Enough said.

Anyone in the UK will tell you its sensationalist hype. Even BBC News often use Panorama main subject matter as one of their 'headlines' to get people to watch the show later.

They're a bit of a joke IMHO. A bit like the Daily Mail with their harbingers of doom tales which sort out the bits they want you to see and not the whole picture. So take with a rather large pinch if salt.

If you actually cared about the overall conditions, wouldn't you rather them focus on that and not just the Apple side of things?
I mean, it's been shown that ALL companies have issues with their supply chain and working conditions. But, that doesn't sell the story, so of course, Apple.
