Why is the reaction to stuff like this always, "Because Apple _____ sucks and they're doomed." It can be for 1,000 different reasons. Maybe he was just ready to do something else. Maybe his health is bad. Maybe it's just that Iovine is clearly running Apple Music now and there wasn't room for him. Maybe Apple just wasn't fulfilling for him. If he had done much other than hire Zane Lowe, we probably would have heard a lot more about him by now. The truth is, he came to Apple through an acquisition. Apple doesn't "acquire different". Whenever there's an acquisition, there is fallout, and it's usually within the buyee, not the buyer.
Welcome to MacRumors!

This isn't the first guy to leave the beats team since their purchase. A number of regular engineers have left as well. There was a 9to5 Mac article months ago talking about how rocky the transition was going and some were already jumping ship back then.

Because most Apple haters have a knee-jerk reaction to anything and say it's bad for Apple. If every man, woman and child on the planet bought an Apple Watch, it would STILL be a failure because the Martian market was untapped.

Yes, the MacRumors' message board is way too critical of Apple as a company and its products.

Can someone tell me how Beats music-service was compared to Apple Music? Better? Worse? More like Spotify?

Edit:

Much nicer

I think the feedback of Apple Music got to him. Plus, it's tough working for Apple, I can only imagine having my first project being judged so harshly.
This debacle reminds me of Apple Maps' launch, however, I will applaud the speed of addressing fixes... Should really be its own stand alone app, Apple Music.

Hoping for a new iTunes re-design. Retire the legacy. It's getting bombarded... :(

I don't get the whole Beats 1 radio thing. I like hip-hop, rnb and a lot of music played on this radio, but it's just a generic radio station, useless typical radio talks between music and CENSORED hip-hop songs, lol. What kind of a dork listens to censored songs? Either you listen to genuine track or you don't listen at all if you don't like it. This station is worthless, at least for me.

I suspect he agreed to a one year employment contract when Beats was acquired. The year is up; he decided to move on to something else.

Yup cashed in his Options and probably didn't want to live and work in Cupertino.

Radio Man leaves company to work somewhere else. Move along. Nothing to see here.

*EDIT* "According to Financial Timessources, Rogers will be taking a job in Europe in an unrelated industry."
There ya go. Bored of tech.

The absurdity that one radio station would be suitable for the masses is laughable. It also didn't help that the implementation of both the radio side and the pay-for music service stink. But that wasn't this guy's fault. There's one guy that's overseen almost all the terrible services options at Apple - Eddie Cue. Show him the door.

A boss with no direction.
Exactly because a boss with no direction has the #1 selling large screened Smartphone and has brought the company from $100 billion to close to $200 billion in a short amount of years. A boss with no direction has major multi-billion dollar companies (Samsung) STILL copying his company's product all the way down to the naming scheme of Apple's products. Sounds more like you have no direction on what you're talking about. ;)

Jobs gets credit for Apple's financial situation. The bean counter CEO's been phoning it in, letting Ive run rampant with designs (iPhone 6) and ideas (Apple Watch) that shouldn't have ever left the lab. The Apple gravy train is on its last legs, time to cash out and find something worthwhile to do. At least one ex-Beats employee realizes it.

More to follow. ;)

If I had 10's of millions by my late 20's, I would totally want to start my own ventures or join other up-and-coming projects. Apple is established. There's really not much else to get a name for yourself. Yeah, you can make millions more, but now its just money. People want to be known for stuff too. Or at least enjoy the process of taking nothing and making it popular.

But he looks about 20 o_O

Two months in the role leads me to believe he just wasn't up to the job in one way or the other. The acquisition by Apple probably meant his workload shot through the roof so it's not surprising.

OR...maybe just maybe he already had plans years back to do other things in business life that have nothing to do with tech and he just took on the role until his contracted agreements with Apple ended to avoid being sued for breach. I think you're reading too far into this.

I agree with you about Eddy Cue but I think it's called Beats 1 for a reason: more stations with different music styles will be coming in the future.

Lol nothing like a very young person disagreeing with the decisions of a set of seasoned world class execs' vision to make for lame corporate intrigue. He got a new job, in another industry. It happens EVERY day.

Your point of view is stupid. RIM management team were seasoned class execs. See where it led them ?
You rarely leave a job in one of the most profitable company in the world when you're almost at the head of one of their new service they're investing a lot of money in. Except if you're dissatisfied with the current direction.

Anyway, "very young person". You do realise he's over 40 years old, right?

Sorry but you couldn't be more wrong. While Apple's recovery and success is largely due to Jobs tireless dedication in rebuilding the company, Tim Cook could've easily been another Steve Emballmer and began running the company down financially and reputation-wise just as Emballmer did for Microsoft, leaving the new CEO to clean up all of Emballer's poop he crapped out on the corporate floors of Microsoft.

If a CEO doesn't know what he's doing he can take a company down fast. Jobs has been gone for years. His former presence isn't strong enough for the company to continue increase profits on it's own and stand as one of the most valuable companies world-wide. It takes a great CEO to continue that. But by all means, join the party in crapping on Tim Cook. It's doubtful that any of you here could do half his job running a large corporation trying to please so many entitled people.

It is Silicon Valley, jumping ship happens all the time; just like it does elsewhere.
It usually comes down to this decision: "What are the odds that the stock options I get from Company A will double in the next five years over the odds of Company B's shares? And how many shares will each company give me?"
