I think the feedback of Apple Music got to him. Plus, it's tough working for Apple, I can only imagine having my first project being judged so harshly.
This debacle reminds me of Apple Maps' launch, however, I will applaud the speed of addressing fixes... Should really be its own stand alone app, Apple Music.

Hoping for a new iTunes re-design. Retire the legacy. It's getting bombarded... :(

I agree that Apple Music should be its own app. And, Apple Music, to this non-UI-designer, should have screamed "something's wrong" with Apple's current software designs. I think I signed up for Spotify when it hit the U.S., and have loved its interface since the beginning, even with a few initially painful changes they've made along the way. Apple Music's interface has introduced me to almost no new music; their playlist badges are embarrassingly bland and generic, lacking the style and cues of Spotify's; Spotify updates the heck out of their software, without messing with my head (except for that color change). Whenever I've turned on Beats 1, the DJ's sounded amateurish. When I lived in Seattle, KEXP felt cutting edge, always creative AND first class professional.

Heck, even my one share of Apple music to facebook resulted in this blown-up album cover that appeared to be from the tiniest thumbnail image available... it was gross and surprising to see.

All that said, I like the sound of Apple Music. It's got that much going for it.

Then I guess you haven't spent a lot of time listening to either. Have you tried for example the Alligator Hour or St. Vincent's Mixtape Delivery Service? Both could easily be on public radio and those shows contrast significantly with the Hip-Hop of Ebro or Julie's sounds of the UK.

Seems likely that he was fired because of Apple Music, as this is too soon for him to have any stock vested after coming to Apple. I just hope Cue will put someone great in who can turn Apple Music around. But, I don't have a lot of faith of that as long as Cue remains in charge, as he seems to have created a culture of terrible products within his department.

Beats is a flop. Apple Watch is a flop. iOS 8 is a flop. Yet Tim Cook gets praises daily. Cook really should fire Cue, or give him less responsibilities.

iPhone 4 was a flop (antenna gate). MobileME was a flop. iCloud hasn't been great. Final Cut "Pro" got dumbed down severely. iPod Nano was recalled due to easily severe scratching of the screen. Yet Jobs gets praises daily when these were HIS flops. Hmmm.

Kinda like the Radio and For You. At least it stop suggesting I listen to Taylor Swift. Who is she? She is a woman, right?

The difference is.... (drum roll).

Jobs has way more hits than flops. Besides, what you listed as "flops" so extremely well and are icons today. Apple Watch is far from an icon and hasn't sold anywhere near Jobs releases.

Tim Cook is one flop after another.

It's way too early to tell if the Apple Watch is a success or if it's a flop.

You're not being fair whatsoever. To say Jobs had more hits than flops when compared to Cook makes no sense. Jobs has been part of Apple since the beginning. Even when he was fired and came back he's been active with Apple since the 90's. Cook has been the CEO for 4 years. You expect him to have nothing but hit records after being a CEO of such a big company as Apple is within 4 years? Hmmm.

The Watch is also very new. What, under 5 months old? It took Jobs far longer than that to get the iPod to be the success that it became. It's taken many years to get Safari to become a household name. Most businesses didn't even care Safari existed until the last year or so. Being an Apple user as long as I have I can give a much bigger laundry list of "flops" from Jobs with some that he never even fixed. Instead, he just put out a new model leaving the existing customers with issue-laden products.

That would actually be Radio 2, with a Listening Share of 17.6%, according to Rajar (The industry body that monitors listening trends in the UK). For those outside the UK, BBC Radio 2 is a station that's pretty much targetted at people over the age of around 25. Radio 1 gets a Listening Share of 6.4%. It's even beaten by Radio 4 (11.7%), which is Auntie's speech radio station that does news, current affairs, drama, magazine programmes, and comedy, including the magnificent I'm Sorry I Haven't A Clue

Radio 1 is a primarily a music station with a youth demographic. Whereas radio 2 is more Adult contemporary stuff. Which isn't at all like Beats 1 whereas, radio 1's output is. There are more adults than teens and younger people so I guess radio 2's figures reflect that. But radio 1 is the most listened to station for the under 35's. Also Radio 2 seems to have more reach according to Rajar so I don't know if that influences the amount able to listen as well.

I don't mean to bash but I personally never viewed Beats as a superior quality product.

That used to be the general consensus about Beats products, but I know many feel that Beats are a much better product since the Apple purchase. I'm not sure how Apple buying them changed opinions, but it did.

I still don't care for the Beats hardware and I'm not sure Apple even cares that much about it. The purchase was mainly made for the music service.

I can understand that he doesn't like Apple's governance.

Beats One, Apple Music and Logic Pro have been complete disasters in term of positioning, no wonder the results will not settle well.

Good Beats 1 sucks, I have tried to listen to that station, its just a bunch of garbage rap.. play something decent for once!

This isn't the first guy to leave the beats team since their purchase. A number of regular engineers have left as well. There was a 9to5 Mac article months ago talking about how rocky the transition was going and some were already jumping ship back then.

I can imagine the corporate culture at Apple is very different from Beats pre-acquisition. Some people probably just don't want the hassle of working for a company as large and demanding as Apple, especially if they are already financially secure and have stable careers and opportunities.

I don't know this guy but it makes me sad anyway.

I really want Apple Music and Beats 1 to work, and news like this doesn't really help of course...
My take on the Apple Music fiasco is way too many cooks in the soup. Unlike MTV, Apple had a many resources where most managers treated it as a side project.

If they want to do Apple Music right, spin it off as an independent company with Apple holding minority shares and a board seat.

Then get some professionals looking for a break to build the "early MTV" environment that was never at the start of Apple Music.
