They scream "raging douche" to me.
As an Apple fan, I agree to an extend. The quality of the aluminum chassis is of quality compared to plastic PC laptops. A PC with the same specs is far less.

Side note: there are PC laptops made of aluminum, some of them are even of decent build quality (as opposed to slapping some alu there to look cool), some of decent build quality even have a lower price than a rMBP, but nobody buys them for the coolness factor - a decent-quality PC is for functionality, compatibility, etc.

Beats and Apple actually belong in the same 'looks before specs, price isn't a huge priority' category, but even then I don't think Apple needed Beats to boost their coolness factor when Apple is the king of cool/effective branding.

Student here also - I like apple products are we know they just work - I never had a single problem but my windows 8 laptop always has problems that a mac will never have - If your not paying as your parents are - your going to go for the most reliable PC right? And that's why most go for macs

Oh god... I'm too old to be in that "40% of Spotify subscribers" statistic.

Funny thing is, a lot of people who I speak to (and my own personal experience) is that Bose is exactly like Beats in the audio world - overpriced and purchased by name, not actual quality.

Like I said, to each his own.

And btw I got a great deal on a pair of basic headphones (OE2i). Couldn't say no to that. Most of my listening anyway is through my car audio system, which is decent :)

"...the typically younger consumers who buy Beats are more interested in appearance than audio quality."

Pretty much describes both the current iPhone purchaser and majority of MR posters - more interested in appearance than OS quality.

Aaaand you've just solved the question of why everyone my age is leaving Facebook for Snapchat and Vine. Although with this new messaging in iOS 8, I don't think Snapchat will be around too much longer...

It's all about moving on to the newest thing when the old thing becomes too mainstream :)

Wait, so Apple, a company previous associated with "cool", had to pay $3 billion to regenerate their "cool factor"? Based on their presentation yesterday, I guess I can't blame them. In the very least, they can very publicly phone Dr Dre.

Clueless young people like Beats, and clueless old people like Bose.

Haha so true! Spot on.

To each his own, I would never buy beats but I can't deny their success.

The article does bring a good point, people spend most on music purchases / subscription when they are in their teens to twenties, so if Beats is doing well with that age group, why not?

Oh, I am NOT denying their success. Its BLATANT. I love Dre too, but I still don't like Beats, only because they sound horrible. Had they sounded good, I would be a fan.

Amongst the demographic that still need to ask (demand?) Mommy and Daddy to pay for their toys?

Prob, because we know all the celebs get them free. You think Lebron or Kaep paid for their pair of inferior Beats?.... UH NO.

I'm a student and I'm not sure if all of this is true. My first Apple product was an iPod Touch 2G and I was completely satisfied by it. I never saw any other company make something like that. Best of all I played games on that thing and jailbroke it lol. That's how I started to like Apple.

Now I have a MacBook Pro but I like the operating system a lot. Well yes the aluminum design is pretty cool, but I like the UI of OS X more than Windows. I don't know I fall into this coolness thing but I bought this cause of preference and its features.

Yes I have an iPhone but I like it cause there's synchronization with my Mac and iPhone. And it plays games. And it looks nice. And many apps. Need I say more?

As for this Beats brand, I bought fake beats for $10 on ebay lol. They suck badly but if you install an App called Boom, it sounds pretty good. Even the real beats suck because I was at Fry's Electronics the other day and the Beats headphones sound so muffled. I tried some Bose headphones and sounded great I prefer to invest in that than Beats if I had that money.

Bs

If someone refuses to buy Apple just because they bought Beats then they weren't very loyal to begin with.

Uh, I'm about as loyal an Apple person you'll find. I have never spent money on a computer other than an Apple. Once the iPod and iPhone were released, I have only ever owned those types of products. I was a stockholder at one time and I was an employee for seven years.

I also happen to believe that the hiring of Andre Young is an insult to every female, gay and lesbian employee of the company. As long as Dr. Dre is drawing an Apple paycheck, I cannot in good conscience give them so much as a penny of my money.

Sorry if that came across as a personal attack, wasn't meant to be. My point was just that a lot of products these days are high priced which equates to quality for most. Beats, Apple, Bose, Sony TVs, HK, I could keep going, in which what the consumer pays is not a good value for their money.

GET OVER IT. Seriously. Go buy an HP and think they don't do wrong... lol.

Or go listen to Enya... bye

rofl that's what i was thinking. isn't dre like 50 now? Dre day was 30 years ago XD

"It's still Dre day, *****, AK *****...

Haterz say Dre fell off, how *****?

They wanna know if he still got it,
they say rap's changed,
they wanna know how I feel about it

If you ain't up on thangs,
Dr. Dre is the name, I'm ahead of my game

Still, the beats bang, still doin' my thang,
since I left, ain't too much changed"

I think he/she raises a valid point though... I am not aware of anyone on HP's staff whose risen to popularity/public figure/pop culture who made money off of discriminating viewpoints.

EDIT: In fact, boycotting Apple over hiring Dr. Dre through acquisition is MUCH more admerable than people who claim to boycott Samsung for, in comparison, trivial reasons.
