Right, the bass heavy posse wear their hats sideways, their pants hang halfway down their arse, and anytime they speak they precede what they say with "yo yo". They also have $8,000 worth of subwoofers installed in a car that's worth about $1500 bucks.

They aren't obnoxious though.... Not at all. :D

Uh, I like bass and bass in my car, I don't say "yoyo" EVER and I'm way too smart and partially poor to afford $8k in audio in general.

I think you're stereotyping now, ha. GET IT!? Its a play on words.. EL OH EL!

Hey, don't throw all bassheads together.

I've bought some bass-oriented IEMs because so many of them sound tinny, but not because some celebrity promoted them, and not overpriced.

In my experience the only people that like Beats headphones are people who have no idea what good sound quality is, or think a lot of base equals good quality, and let's not forget the ones that buy Beats solely because they make them look "cool".

Personally, like someone else mentioned in the thread, I think they make people look like douches.

There is a percentage of the population that wants to look like douches (to you). There is a good percentage of the population who like music, but don't care about "good sound quality" (yet?). Some of this population has money and spends it. Apple would prefer that they spend this money on Apple (or their Beats subsidiary) products, and not on the competition's stuff.

As for the relative size of this population (and how much money they spend), try comparing Beats hardware revenue with one of the boutique audiophile companies.

Seems like a good deal for Apple. More money from "douches", more money for R&D. More money for R&D, more cool features introduced at WWDC hidden inside their software for hi-end audio developers to use.

Guess what, all the music you hear these days is digital. SQUARE WAVES! Not sinusoidal(the real deal!). So give me a break about the whole audiophile bullsh**!

Must have been high-school students!

You're kidding right? I live in Tallahasse, Home to Florida State, Florida A&M, and Tallahassee Community college. I have a Gold's Gym membership and often because of convenience, I use the one within walking distance of FSU. That gym is flooded with Beats headphone users everyday.

Beats are definitely heavily used by teenagers and young adults(college aged kids). Of course its only because of the cool factor. many of the kids dont value sound quality other than bass. That alone is good enough reason to me for Apple to have bought Beats.

But I imagine Apple will use its resources and up the quality of sound in these headphones. Apple has always valued the quality and production of their hardware and software, at least in everything accept their headphones.

But now that they have spent alot of money on these headphones and attracted alot of attention with this aquisition, I cant imagine Apple not taking these things serious. I definitely see them reworking these headphones over time and providing some of the best headphones on the market in the near to not so near future.

If they really wanted to spend more in R&D we would see more than a couple Mac models.

:rolleyes:so called audiophiles are the most annoying, obnoxious people on this site.

Here's a fact:some people WANT a lot of bass.So go listen to your senneshers or whatever it's called. No one cares.

Many so called Audiophiles are pretty ignorant to real sound quality in a blind test. Been proven time and time again.

Me, I like my earpods just fine. Cant see paying more for any brand of headphone, owned by Apple or not.

I am not denying Beat's success, I'm also not denying their popularity among, for lack of a better word, plebs.

I just think people who buy Beats look like douches when they wear them around their neck around town/buses or as a fashion accessory.

I also feel sad for Beat headphone customers, because they are paying a premium for low quality audio.

Beats can be compared to Samsung, crazy marketing to drive sales, but lower quality products compared to the competition.

I can see this. Kind of like the taste test crap.

Anybody else notice Eddy Cue just "happens" to be wearing Beats headphones in the photo that is supposedly from last year's WWDC karaoke outing?

Uh, I'm about as loyal an Apple person you'll find. I have never spent money on a computer other than an Apple. Once the iPod and iPhone were released, I have only ever owned those types of products. I was a stockholder at one time and I was an employee for seven years.

I also happen to believe that the hiring of Andre Young is an insult to every female, gay and lesbian employee of the company. As long as Dr. Dre is drawing an Apple paycheck, I cannot in good conscience give them so much as a penny of my money.

I can actually completely understand this reasoning, and respect it.

'Omg Apple bought Beats, that's so dumb, they're hurting loyalty', I can't. Which is what the person I was quoting was saying.

Among young consumers, I frankly don't think the issue has much to do with "cool" factor. I mean, honestly, is Samsung cooler than Apple?

If I were to guess, based on few teenagers and college kids that I know, it has more to do with (1) size of the phone's screen, (2) wanting to stand out from the crowd, (3) lower price.

To that end, introducing larger iPhones (4.7" and 5.5" seem all but certain now), more personalization options (e.g., cooler cases), and cheaper iPhone (e.g., 8GB iPhone 5c at $399 without subsidy) would do more to help iPhone's sale than paying $3B for Beats.

I don't think the problem is lack of money for R&D its the lack of ideas. Throwing money at headphones and bringing dr dre into the fold will not help Apple. I think they will be lucky to break even in 10 years on this purchase.

Wow, did you ever watched a movie listening to a good pair of headphones ? Lord of the rings has tons of bass and also very low frequency bass. You can only hear that with headphones with plenty of low and strong bass.
Maybe Beats could deliver.

You think any and all companies dont? lol.

Just because they don't verbally say it, doesn't mean it doesn't exist, thus the overseas jobs, poor work conditions for the overseas jobs, not bringing jobs to america, outsourcing to make bigger margins, laying employees off, sweatshops, etc, etc, etc, etc, etc.

GET REAL PEOPLE. HATE is everywhere and more people have died in the name of "God" than any of these hate crimes. UGH. PEOPLE.

If you don't like someones opinion, don't listen to them.
If you don't like a picture, don't look at it.
If you don't want to buy something, then don't.
If you don't want to befriend someone, don't.

ITS SIMPLE.

I don't like the Dallas Coybows, so I don't watch their games.
I don't like the LA Lakers, so I don't watch their games.
I don't like Lil' Wayne, so I don't listen to his music.
I don't like the movie The Hunger games, so I don't watch it.
I don't like celeb gossip magazines, do I don't buy or read them.

ITS SIMPLE

People are routinely 'checked' on Facebook and other social media outlets for potentially racist/discriminatory points of view and are not offered jobs as a result of it. The fact is Apple knowingly hired someone as a result of an acquisition (remember, they could have very easily handed him a check and not offered him a job after acquired) and handed him a high level position - all knowing his lyrics. It's a bit of a double standard, don't you think?

You mention a lot of things you don't like, but none of them are relevant to this situation or even in the same universe of thought.

typically younger consumers who buy Beats are more interested in appearance than audio quality.

Same goes with society in general these days... It's more important to look like a professional, educated, musician, artist, politician etc. than to actually be one. To be one is just too much work.
