She’s got her fans yes. But she’s polarizing even to women. Initially a lot of women saw her as triumphing over slut shaming and thought it was refreshing to see a woman rise to stratospheric levels of economic power no matter what the origins were. No, I am not saying that no one in MR likes her... But the majority of the comments are negative, right? If you saw the same article posted on a makeup forum, fashion forum, etc, you'd see a ton of love for these. I just don't think techie people are the target audience for Kim K's branding.
And yeah, your last sentence is exactly what I said - these will be successful despite the disinterest I would expect from Apple news site readers/commenters. No hate. Envy maybe... but no hate.
But there are many women of color who grew dismayed and angry of her appropriating our skins and our cultures to enrich herself and uplift nobody else. She (of white and Armenian descent) has literally worn people’s races and ethnicities (yes, mine included) as costumes to promote herself and some of her merchandise. (If that sounds like a “woke” objection to someone then they just don’t understand what it feels like to see that and nobody can make them feel something that’s not their personal experience).
So if you see her name come up on forums frequented by women and especially women from racial/ethnic groups she’s copied, you’re going to see some hostile comments.
There are many more controversies about her that offend many other people. But that’s the only one I feel comfortable commenting on.
