Hmmm. The timing of this release seems like a strategic alignment with the acquisition becoming official. Doubt Apple engineers had anything to do with this model, but wouldn't be shocked if the release is aimed to target listeners of genres where bass is less emphasized.

Forget pleasing the audiophiles though. They hate everything.

PS -

Sennheiser = German
Bang & Olufsen = Danish
Bowers & Wilkins = English
Spotify = Swedish

Apple = American
Beats = American

Perhaps that played a role as well for Apple.

owwww dear....

some American brands...... I did not check them all, just googled it

So are we going to have news posts about these crappy products all time now that Apple have bought them?

Probably not a great idea to visit a website who's sole purpose is reporting Apple news if you're not interested in reading about Apple news :rolleyes:

Well ****. You mean to say that you don't want to hear about Apple news on an Apple news-related website? Hmmm

Here, go here: http://www.androidcentral.com
That website may be better suited for you. I guarantee you won't see much about Apple or products/companies that they've recently acquired.

As for toning down the base…whatever will the self-proclaimed audiophiles complain about now when it comes to Beats products?

So they'll change the look and sound of the products?

Why?

Isn't one of the ideas behind buying a company so you can acquire what made them "special" in the first place?

Out of all the things I didn't like about the brand, the appearance was something I actually didn't have a problem with...

Nothing. To. Do. With. Headphones.

Call me crazy, but why is it necessary to spend hundreds of dollars for headphones? When did this become the trend? I get it that people want a quality listening experience, but the sheer number of these headphones on the market makes me wonder when this all happened.

If you had told me five years ago about a pair of $200 headphones, I would have said "good luck selling those," but it seems they're all over the place now, so apparently people buy them.

I spent more on mine (Grado SR325) because I wanted better sound. As for everyone else, it's a mix of sound and marketing. I suspect people didn't realize there were better headphones out there. Lots of products come in and out of fashion. Why is it necessary to spend lots of money on large TVs? I grew up watching a 13" TV that cost $250. Why can't everyone else put up with $250 TVs?

An early review from Engadget suggests the new cans tone down the bass

Am I the only one who can't stand the term "cans" for headphones? Something about it seems sleazy and pretentious at the same time.

The new model looks handsome, particularly in the blue/grey.

They look deliberately designed to broaden the brand's appeal beyond the urban/ghetto/thug/gangster* market.

I'd imagine that Apple's valuation of Beats was significantly influenced by knowledge of this launch.

*insert ugly, value-laden euphemism for 'black' of choice

So what, does this this make them $40 headphones and a $160 fashion accessory now? Or $50 headphones with $150 fashion accessory? Because before they were $30 headphones...

Doesn't even come close in sound to the Sennheiser HD-595's I got on Amazon for $119 3 years ago....

As for me, I'm quite content with my Apple earbuds, thank you. :)

Why is it necessary to spend $1000s on nicer TVs, computers, houses, etc...? I haven't tried beats but I had some high end Sennheisers and a headphone amp for a while and it made some music absolutely magical, like you are in the room with the singer/band.

Also, $200 headphones certainly existed 5 years ago. This isn't some new concept even if you hadn't heard of it. Beats did popularize it for a lot of new people though. It really isn't that much money considering how much time people spend listening to music. I appreciate that people care about music enough to spend the money.

Normally, when travelling I can hold off that 'I don't want to live in this world any more' feeling until I'm actually on the plane and browsing the digital cat litter boxes and climbing-gear clad plastic squirrels in the SkyMall catalogue... Last time, however, I only made it as far as Dixons at Heathrow before I noticed that all the headphone displays prominently featured a mirror.

Its pretty clear that audio is not the top priority when people are choosing headphones.

People are not fully rational actors. Everyone leveled the same criticism at the iMac when it came out in multiple colors. Oh, it's just for fashion, it's not a REAL computer. And on and on when it comes to other Apple products. If people only cared about the utility, we'd all be using cheap PCs, driving used Honda Civics, wearing the absolute cheapest clothing. But we don't. Because we are part of a society that places a value on appearances. You can neckbeard-rage against it all you want, but this is humanity right now. And people are going to want to look half decent if they're walking around in public with a device strapped to their ears. So Beats filled that market. I can't say I'm particularly fond of how they sound, but they're the most stylish headphones out there, hands down.

Oh Per-lease! This is just pitiful; genuinely awful. To me, it reads:

"Hey, now we are in bed with Apple and its boring customers, we have produced some decent headphones for the serious audiophile, with a neutral balance. Oh, except, if you are one of our traditional customers, don't worry, it still belts out the bass."

I despise all this, both in terms of music and the shallow marketing ploys. You cannot have it both ways. You are either one thing or the other. Don't pretend you can be all things to all people. Shame on Apple for getting into bed with such people.

I don't know what people's problem with Beats is, I own a pair of the Solo HD's and they are brilliant, very durable and the sound is great. Yea they are bass heavy but they also work great with other types of music, I listen to all different types of music and I love Beats.

Some things you'll learn about this earth man.
1. People like to complain
2. People like to complain
3. People like to complain

Even if they haven't made the purchase they still complain. Most of these people do a damn good job comparing headsets and haven't owned neither of them; just piggybacking from previous reviewers. Reading all the reviews all you see is hate for no reason. Just unproductive hate.

I don't want Beats headset. I love my Audio Tech. And it'll take a lot to steer me away from them. However, Beats are not BAD either. Just not as good and cooler looking. More shiny. So depends on the person. It varies.

Edit: tbh it takes a crap load to defeat the classical branded headsets. They are truly engineered for perfection and it'll take more than a few years to obtain the beautiful quality. Just a shame that style is the focus over performance. I'm sure Apple will soon make these master both.

What's with the rage? A company released a new product and tried their best to market it to as broad of a group as possible - how is that remotely surprising?

I've used my brother's Beats, and I'm pretty confident that people criticize Beats because they are significantly overpriced. If I could get them for $120-$140 it would be a different story, but at $200 they should really sound better.

Everyone buys a product for a reason.

While there are headphones that deliver better audio quality, beats are purchased for the looks and for the status symbol of owning them

Very few people purchase Beats for audio quality.

That being said, to each his own, because I have tried the Beats and while they are not amazing they are not terrible either.

People laugh at me when I bought the Bose QC15 for $250 claiming "OMG You bought Bose what a joke you are they suck and are overpriced"

When in reality there are no better noise canceling headphones on the market and the sound quality while listening to music while not as good as a pair for $300-500 audiophile Sennheiser or the like they still deliver great performance.

Apple is smart to get in on this trend because with their design team they will make the Beats even more sought after and like ive mentioned in previous posts the headphones could become a great marketing tool for Apple.

Imagine in an upcoming back to school promo with any purchase of a Macbook over $1000 you received a pair of Beats that retailed for $200 with it. Those headphones would cost Apple at most $50 but this would be a huge incentive for people to buy a Mac esp the college crowd

I like the bass heavy sound so I will stick with the regular beats. That is my biggest gripe with Bose and other headphones is the bass is not good. I like hearing the bass lines in songs.

People say you buy beats for the brand but what about maybe people are buying beats because you like heavy bass sounding headphones?

Don't try to trash talk people because they like something different than you. Most likely it's not the brand but the bass. Heavy bass in head phones is a big plus for me.

Good news

I'm glad to hear that they've improved the design and sound quality. That's all you can ask of a company; Make improvements on the product.

Fair point! I'm just in a bad mood. Apple, Beats, Samsung, all the rest... They are just companies trying to make a dollar. Of course they will do and say what the majority want, even if we know it is usually total b******s. That's how capitalism works.
