"Wireless" refers to the term of not having a wire to your device, I'm not sure how much clearer I can make it for you. I think your analysis about where the direction is going is absolutely wrong, and refuted by what's on the market and in the pipelines. Go to Amazon (or your favorite sales site) and google "wireless earphones" (which I think you really mean earbuds) and you'll see your sentiment is not accurate.
We're witnessing the embryonic stage of truly wireless earphones, of course Amazon isn't awash with them yet. Why was there such a furore over Bragi's kickstarter? Why have Samsung released the IconX and Apple the Airpods? Almost all would agree it's a step forward. You can call them wireless all you want but the fact is there's an annoying wire around your neck at all times. Like I say, I had a pair and went back to the 3.5mm jack. This cannot be the endgame:

Now I'm not saying the AirPods look good either, but the Samsung's do. W1 is useful I will say that. I use mine across multiple devices so that would come in handy.
