Didn't Apple already commit to supporting RCS in 2024? I'm not even sure why beeper even exists with RCS support coming. Seems that'll solve all the wining coming from Android users over blue vs green bubbles. Though, I'm counting on Apple giving RCS messages TEAL colored bubbles, then there will be an uproar over teal vs blue.

I can't even imagine being that desperate to want iMessage on Android.

Reminds me of the whole Hackintosh craze. Yeah it was cool to build your own Hackintosh, but the user experience issues and compromises just aren't worth the headaches that would come from it.

Just save up your money to buy an iPhone. iPhones tend to hold their value well, so after a year or two or three, trade it in towards a new model and it won't cost nearly as much to stay current.

Funny how Apple isn't letting this happen but doesn't care about the Hackintosh community using fake system ID identifiers and serial numbers. 🤣

Guess it will be a moot point when Intel is no longer supported.

On the other hand, who friggin' cares. Plenty of 3rd party chat apps that are cross platform. This really only affects the US.

Turns out Eric Migicovsky is the lead 🤡 in the Beeper 🤡 show!

Mixed feelings about this guy, started one of the best trends with Pebble watches, now went to theft!

Hero to zero, or just a one time lucky fool? My question will always be why not team up with Citizen?

Turning down 740M from Citizen, & 70M from Intel, ended up at 35M from Fitbit, I think that was the point we knew this Eric Migicovsky 🤡 just got lucky!

All this for some bubbles? I don’t get it. Isn’t apple supposed to implement the the text standard that will allow android devices to communicate with iPhones next year?

I'm not sure 'commit' is the right word. But they have said they are planning to support RCS in 2024, and if this does happen I think it will satisfy most. However that could be a full 12 months away and I'm sure most people don't even know about this plan. So expect continued interest in things like Beeper for months to come.

On bubble colours: I'm sure Apple will keep a distinction between iMessage and RCS and I think this is the right thing to do (I'd want to know which protocol is being used for any given message). But they should also have a distinction between RCS and SMS (i.e. a 3-tier colour system)

So in your opinion Google Messages isn’t mainstream? Because it’s not available for iOS.

I’m a little surprised Google hasn’t released it for iOS. They love launching and killing chat apps.

It's not possible for Google Messages to exist on iPhone in a useful way. RCS needs SMS fallback in the same way iMessage needs SMS fallback. But Apple doesn't allow 3rd party apps to handle SMS.

"Folks, we found our last ditch attempt to avoid just buying an iPhone to get iMessage is to buy an iPhone to....jailbreak your iPhone...so you can....use iMessage on Android..."

This is the modern meta: "Let's buy a Chevy and put the Ford logo on it, so I can drive a Jeep..."

It's not about the color but about the ability to send uncompressed media between iOS and Android devices without having to download another app. I switch between my iPhone and Galaxy phone so it would be nice to text my cousin's media without going through FB messenger when I'm on my Galaxy phone. Beeper will be irrelevant once rcs is implemented so i don't know why they keep trying. For those Android users that actually do want a blue bubble they should just get an iPhone.

At this point, you really have to wonder just how big the market is for android users desperate enough to want iMessage on their device, and willing to actually jump through all those hoops.

As a iPhone user I expect Apple to assure I can communicate with people securely regardless of the operation system. This is not about Android, this is about Apple and Apple users. If you don't think Apple users should be able to be safe, then buy something else.
It is difficult to see which side you are even arguing with that comment. Assurances? Do you want higher walls on the garden, with Apple locking down more? Or do you think Apple should be responsible for everything you do?

If I want to use my iPhone to send SMS messages to my friends with flip phones, I should be allowed, and I will take personal responsibility for my use of that SMS and be careful to not send my bank account number with that lunch invite.

The world belongs to the people. Including the cooperate entities in it. That means, if there is a way to secure people to communicate more safety (and inconvenient for the end user), it should be implemented. If companies starts to whine about (like Apple), "We the people" should force. Looks like the EU is the only legal entity to take this seriously.

It is not your responsibility to secure your phone to the most modern standards. You can expect people to understand encryption and over-all cyber security. Your expert bias is playing you a trick here.

Mainly because it’s the only legal entity to truly not understand technology. “a way to secure people to communicate more safety” already exists in Signal, WhatsApp, etc. etc. The people have spoken and those that value security are, right now, with no intervention from the EU, communicating more securely.

You keep making the same mistake as so many others. Just because you know/understand know these apps does not make that a fair excuse (yes, an excuse). My grandmother should not be forced to use third party apps to just send regular texts but also be safe on the internet. Also, you need to trust new apps now and not just the OS.

Your logic is that Apple is not safe and should not be trusted because others are doing it for them.
Makes Apple look very(!) silly and borderline dangerous for the average consumer.

Your grandmother ISN’T forced to use third party apps, SMS exists on every phone and sends and receives “regular texts”. Doesn’t matter if the person has an iOS phone, an Android phone or a dumb phone. If she knows the cellular number of an individual, she can send them a message. Interestingly enough, EVEN to folks that may prefer to use WhatsApp, iMessage, Signal, etc!

My logic is “a solution exists”. With anything, learning how to utilize the solution is part of the solution. Anyone that doesn’t want to “learn” email is still sending messages through their postal service. That doesn’t mean that email doesn’t exist, just that some people reject it as a solution… and rejection of a solution doesn’t mean the solution no longer exists.

There is no market....Google is trying to break Apple's engineering and product discipline and focus. While Google was screwing around, not making a competitor to anything Apple produces (Tablets and messaging being the big ones), Apple built a massive framework to lock in their users.

And now that Apple has a strong marriage with its users, Google wants to break that up and be a hussy because that's its only option. Google is a decade behind WhatsApp, Messenger, Teams, iMessage, etc.

So, they found some antiquated SMS upgrade Apple never bothered with so they can force themselves onto Apple's users and iMessage like a hussy tries to break a marriage.

Your solution is to avoid the obvious and straight forward solution that will make Apple users more secure as well as Android users: Encrypt the s**t and move on with your life. Being against encryption in any way, shape, or form is very suspicious to me in 2023.

Browsing a couple of other forums, it appears Apple is cracking down big time. They are banning people and blacklisting Apple ID and phone numbers of those who use BlueBubbles / AirMessage on a virtual Mac or Hackintosh. In addition to Beeper users.

As much as I supported Beeper's cause, it's over. Don't be stupid, just stop using it. It isn't worth getting both your Apple ID and phone number banned by Apple.

Apple has more money than most countries' GDP. It was only a matter of time before the sledgehammer dropped and now they're finding individual users as well.
