How exactly is it weakening the security for everyone else? The messages originate on and Android device but once they enter the iMessage infrastructure, they are an iMessage just like all the other ones. There's no difference. No added payload or additional code.
Because they are using exploits to send that's a security violation. What if it was a porn company spamming customers on iMessage

Security exploit.

iCloud is free — storage aside. Anybody can make as many iCloud accounts as they want.
Yeah, but what exactly are you storing on iCloud if you don't own any apple devices? I doubt it's costing Apple anything to host a couple of dummy accounts that aren't consuming any bandwidth.

I buy a Ford for a Ford, a Chevy for a Chevy…yes some tinkerers swap motors from the two, but overwhelmingly people buy the brand and features they can buy…because they shop around and compare the pro/con of each..

TLDR buy a used iPhone if you want a cheap-priced iMessage experience

or

goodness gracious, use SIGNAL for group chats 🤯

…or WhatsApp …or Telegram

…people here, educate those Android friends we *all* have….and love 99% of the time 😬🫣

I feel like the goal of Beeper is to make a lot of noise, and hopefully some VC will buy them for way too much money 🦠

Technically smart but without any business sense. Please redirect your skills to a something that is of value and not trespassing on other companies business.

Unwanted and not secure methods to get iMessage. The app will be shut down by Apple soon.

Even if Beeper Mini worked fully, I'm not paying 2 bucks a month for this subscription base kludge. I have many devices that I use, be it IOS, Windows, MacOS or Android. It's nice to have them interoperate as much as possible and I enjoy sending and receiving iMessages on my Android devices. However if I was a sole Android user, I don't think I would bother to go through the hoops to add iMessage capability to my Android devices, let alone pay for it.

For someone like me, having both Apple and Android devices, Airmessage is a wonderful and FREE alternative to add ıMessage capability to Android devices.

iMessage is the only mainstream messaging app that isn't cross platform.

I wonder what would would happen if Google held back all their apps to Android only, I would love to see that.

Apple users make me laugh.

Yes Im trolling 😂

This method restores full Beeper Mini functionality so that Android users will show up as "blue bubbles" when communicating with iPhone users.
This is such a strange myth that keeps being shared everywhere. Has no one here used Messages on iOS? Messages from Android users (or any other SMS) show up as white bubbles, literally identical to the messages sent using iMessage from an iPhone or other Apple devices.

Jailbroken iphone lol. As others have said, appreciate the tenacity, but this was tilting at a windmill from the beginning.

Would be better if Apple just released iMessage on Android giving them blue bubbles and slurping up all those users for messaging with E2E encryption (maybe $0.99 a month to cover costs). The people are still going to want iPhones regardless and it'd be a PR win.
For those whocrave for blue bubbles would be maybe better get iPhone 4s or some old iphone for few bucks the fiddle with jailbroking iPhone and see it was blocked month later.

You need to take a long hard look in the mirror. Apple will support RCS once Google fully implements end to end encryption in it. It’s not Apples job to do that for them. This is a simple case of simping for one company/platform/entity against another all the while thinking you’re standing up for a righteous moral cause or something.

The issues surrounding all of this are more of a broader problem with capitalism and our society at large. Google locks RCS down by only serving it to Android users through the Google messaging app. Beeper clearly piggybacked off Apples property. If you don’t like that then complain about the law, not how Apple is following the law to protect their interests.

Beeper mini also clearly broke the end to end encryption aspect and made it so Apple customers might not know they are communicating with someone using this workaround. Obviously Apple is not going to be okay with letting that risk fall on their customers, or themselves when security is one of their huge selling points.

You’re missing the bigger picture if you think Apple is bullying you by not letting you have potentially unencrypted exchanges with iMessage users on their dime. It doesn’t matter if beeper mini was going to be a good actor, Apple doesn’t control them and if it isn’t within their own house they cannot make any guarantees about security.
Apple adds support for RCS next year regardless of E2EE being in the universal profile or not. You probably need to go back to the announcement posts and re-read them.

Google doesn‘t lock down RCS, they lock down Jibe (their RCS hub) and Google Messages (their chat app). Anyone is free to do their own app and provide their own UP compliant RCS Hub that then interconnects with other hubs on Android. It‘s just that barely anyone wants to do that, they‘d rather freeload Jibe on Android by requesting Google to provide a RCS SDK (similar to the SMS one), which probably wont happen anyway. There are 3rd party niche RCS clients on Android and also hubs by carriers that didn‘t fully throw in the towels yet (although most start to scrap their hubs and forfeit RCS to Google and soon Apple).

Google tried that once with google maps. Apple kicked them off from the iPhone’s homescreen without even blinking and replaced them with their own maps app. The implication is that they lost access to a ton of user data (since google maps is reported installed on roughly 40% of iPhones) and correspondingly, a lot of money to go with it.

Today, Google is willing to pay Apple 26 billion dollars to keep google search as default on iOS. They believe their search engine remains the most popular, yet would rather spend that much money than risk finding out what would happen if they ever lost their coveted default spot in the browser. That’s how much they are scared of Apple.

By all means, I dare google to withhold their apps from iOS. You tell me who needs whom more. 😏

Beeper Mini are stupid. iMessages belongs to Apple so trying to fudge making it work seems daft. Why bother - just use WhatsApp like everyone else. On which related note, pull yopur finger out Apple and hurry up and support RCS, then none of us need to f**k about using third party apps. The sooner Apple and Android users can just message each other encrypted, send decent quality pics and reactions and have group chats, the sooner we can all stop pissing about with 3rd party apps. Everyone I know has to use WhatsApp and probably Messenger too, so we can all just communicate, which is just plain daft.

Then go buy an iPhone. They owe you nothing.

As a iPhone user I expect Apple to assure I can communicate with people securely regardless of the operation system. This is not about Android, this is about Apple and Apple users. If you don't think Apple users should be able to be safe, then buy something else.

Safe? Please elaborate?

As we shared this morning, the team behind the Beeper Mini iMessage for Android app has announced a plan that will let Android customers use a jailbroken iPhone to register a phone number with iMessage in order to get the Beeper Mini service working.

Beeper-Mini-Broken-By-Apple-Feature.jpg

Just days after Beeper Mini launched on December 5, Apple objected to the way it was using iMessage servers with "fake credentials," and blocked the mechanism the app was using. Since then, Beeper Mini has tried to get the app back online using several increasingly complicated methods, but Apple has continually shut it down.

Beeper Mini's latest effort requires either a Mac or an old iPhone that is able to be jailbroken, and Android users who do not have access to one of these will not be able to use Beeper Mini or the Beeper Cloud service reliably. Using a Mac is straightforward, as Beeper Mini users simply need to sign in to get an iMessage registration code that allows the service to work.

The Beeper Mini team says that 10 to 20 people can "safely" use the same registration data, but the Mac method limits Beeper Mini users to email-based iMessage communications, and it requires an Apple ID.

The second more complicated Beeper Mini workaround uses an iPhone. Beeper Mini's developers suggest that customers get an old iPhone 6, 6s, original SE, 7, 8, or X and jailbreak it with a Mac or Linux computer to install a Beeper tool that generates an iMessage registration code. The registration code can be added to the Beeper Mini app, and it allows an Android phone number to be registered with iMessage.

This method restores full Beeper Mini functionality so that Android users will show up as "blue bubbles" when communicating with iPhone users. The jailbroken iPhone must stay plugged in, at home, and connected to Wi-Fi in order for Beeper Mini to continue to function.

Those who do not have an old iPhone can "rent" an iPhone from the Beeper Mini team for a few dollars per month, or buy an old iPhone that's preloaded with the Beeper Mini app. The jailbroken iPhone rental and purchase service will "be available in the new year" if potential customers express enough interest.

Beeper Mini requires registration data from an Apple device, and to get the app to work, the Beeper Mini team was initially using registration data from its own Mac servers. Apple was able to target Beeper Mini because thousand of users had the same registration data, but it will in theory be more difficult for Apple to determine who is a genuine iMessage user and who is a Beeper Mini user with the unique registration codes provided via a Mac or a jailbroken iPhone.

In a second blog post, the Beeper Mini team says that this is its last attempt to get Beeper Mini up and running. If Apple finds a way to disable Beeper Mini again, that will be the end of the app. The team says, however, that it has "created something that Apple can tolerate existing" with the jailbroken iPhone endeavor. It seems unlikely that Apple will allow Beeper Mini to sell or rent jailbroken iPhones, so it will be interesting to see if and how Apple responds.

Beeper Mini is also open sourcing the iMessage connection software that powers Beeper Mini so others can continue development if desired.

All this for some bubbles? I don’t get it. Isn’t apple supposed to implement the the text standard that will allow android devices to communicate with iPhones next year?
