Belkin has temporarily halted sales of its InvisiGlass Ultra screen protector for iPhone X after numerous complaints about it cracking way too easily.

The $39.95 screen protector is no longer available to purchase from Belkin's website or Apple's online store after dozens of customers--but not all--complained about it cracking in normal usage conditions and without ever dropping their devices. We're told it has also been pulled from shelves at Apple retail stores around the world.

Here's one customer review from Belkin's website:
I purchased this at the Apple Store a little over a month ago and had them install it using their machine. Installation was quick and the fit on my iPhone X was flawless. I loved the glass feel and everything was fine until a couple days ago when I lightly tapped on the top portion of the screen with my pen and it cracked! There are 3 crack lines coming from the initial crack point. I am very disappointed in the durability of this product to say the least.
When we first reached out to Belkin about the InvisiGlass Ultra's many one-star reviews in November, a company spokesperson informed us that it had not identified any issues with the screen protector at the time. It has since changed tune.

"We have been constantly testing this product since we released the first generation of it timed to iPhone X availability and things have evolved since you and I last spoke," a Belkin spokesperson informed MacRumors. "We identified some improvements to be made in the next generation of this product."

A new and hopefully improved version of the InvisiGlass Ultra screen protector for the iPhone X will be available to purchase from Apple in January and from Belkin around January or February, according to the spokesperson.

Belkin said it considers "product quality and consumer feedback of paramount importance" and said that customers who have any questions should contact the company directly or reach out to their local Apple store. Belkin didn't specify if customers will be eligible for a refund, but hopefully it honors these requests.

The original InvisiGlass Ultra uses 0.21mm ion-strengthened glass from iPhone display glass manufacturer Corning. Belkin said the screen protector improved the iPhone X's scratch resistance by up to three to five times, with up to a 25 percent increase in protection against cracking and breakage from drops.

The InvisiGlass Ultra was released in late October alongside Belkin's anti-glare and tempered glass screen protectors for iPhone X, which both remain available to purchase for $19.95 and $24.95 respectively.

Lol, just got a warranty replacement for my InvisiGlass Ultra for the X last week (about 5-6 weeks after the X's launch) after it cracked from a small fall. The screen protector's "feel" and "thinnest" are the best I've experienced, but the durability is definitely shoddy. You'd think Corning glass would hold up better...

Wonder if Belkin will let customers receive the upgraded version for free? Maybe Apple will refund purchases made through the Apple Store? If they're admitting they sold a faulty product a refund or upgrade to fixed version wouldn't be unreasonable in my opinion...

I'm actually surprised this doesn't happen more often. I have a Zagg screen protector and it looks so flimsey but it seems to do the job
I used Zagg Glass in the past, but they always cracked within a year. Picked up the Belkin Invisiglass hoping it would be a improvement given the Apple endorsement.

Tempted to go back to plastic screen protectors to be honest. Sure, it may not quite feel like glass, but a least you don't have to worry about the screen protector itself cracking. Plastic screen protectors are thinner too.

Same thing with my Belkin iP7+ screen protector last year. Applied in the Apple Store and within a week a small crack had appeared (thin line) on the top right of the phone. Honestly: It never fell, no enormous amount of pressure was applied... really bad quality... Took it into the Apple Store: They didn't care and told me it must have "done its job". Called Belkin: They didn't care. It's easy to just rid complaints down to the obvious "you must have dropped it" and the customer has no way of proving the opposite.

Recently bought 2x Anker Glass Protectors (€7,99 on Amazon) and they're holding up well. Application was easy with the included kit and the protector is a little wider than the Belkin one which means the edges of the screen don't get this "rainbow" effect. Cheaper, better, ... Belkin? Never again.

I have the same one, had it installed at an Apple Store. A few days later I took it out of my pocket and it was cracked, was never dropped. Belkin replaced it and I have a new one on now which will probably break shortly.

I've had good luck with Zagg, I've had them on years without issues (knocks on wood)

The Belkin invisglass protector I got for my Apple watch3 was equally as poor and broke after only 3 days also it made the touch screen very unresponsive

After my bad Belkin InvisiGlass experience with my iPhone 7 Plus as it broke so easily, I do not trust Belkin InvisiGlass protection anymore for iPhone X. The steep price of it is not worth it. Instead, I am using the anti glare version. I am glad Belkin finally takes a corrective action.

lol, at least they halted sales to investigate, that is what a ethical company does
I second on this.

£40? That is quite steep!

I shouldn't be too surprised really, since the phone costs £1000, what's another £40?
With poor quality product for the price, the price is steep and cannot be justified. It is like throwing 40 dollars or euros away. If you are happy on throwing the money away or with poor quality product, that is your business:)

A plastic version or glass?

I grabbed a temper glass Zagg protector for my iPhone 6S about a year ago, it’s holding up great. It fit with my 6S’s Otterbox Commuter perfectly. And that’s been the setup since then. My brother now has my 6S and he wants to grab a Mophie case for the phone so hopefully it’ll last.

Anyway, found myself pre ordering the temper glass for the iPhone X. 40$ well spent. The glass was easy to put on, especially with no home button. It feels like the real glass, the old 6S one did as well. I’m using it with a clear Spigen case(felt like changing it up from an Otterbox for a little bit, the Commuter is on the buy list for my X though.)

Great brand, I hope it’ll last me these next few years as I don’t plan to upgrade anytime soon.

I have the machine installed Belkin anti-glare screen protector. Zero complaints with mine. Perfect install!

Well now it all makes sense. I’ve replaced these things three times since launch. I would pull my phone out of my pocket and there would be a chip or crack for no reason. These glorified peices of plastic are already way overpriced. Only nice part was the Apple store installation were flawless.

I bought the Belkin when I picked up the X and had them install it out of sheer convenience. This cracked in less than a week with no drops, etc. Something must have caught the edge on something as there were about 6 cracks originating from that point. Had a Best Buy put on the Zagg. No issues in the same amount of time. If the item was actually shown on the store, I’d add to the chorus of one star reviews. Truly useless waste of $40.

Zagg has performed far better than the belkin product.

If Zagg could put them on as straight as the Belkin machine I would have stuck with Zagg.

2 Belkins for the X and both cracked.

Done with Belkin and crooked Zagg protectors.

Sorry to hear some folks have faulty ones. I have had one I ordered during iPhone X preorder period, when I got my iPhone delivered on November 3rd I installed the screen protector. Since the. I have had absolutely no problem with the screen protector. It is aligned perfectly and does an amazing job even through normal day to day use. I guess I got lucky and didn’t get a faulty one.

Buy the cheap-ola protectors on Amazon. Plenty of great options for $10 and less (and Prime eligible). They come out of the same factories as the "name brand" one, and no worse. Same material. It baffles me that people pay $20, $30 or more for these.
