I bought the one made for the new ipad at best buy today along with a smart cover and like the combo. I do have an icarbons brushed aluminum skin on the back and i would say it does make it hard for the left side to latch on as good as i would expect. But it does stay on though I worry that a drop would send the thing flying off.

Anyone have any information on the release date of the secure version of this case with the metal attachment on the back?

I just bought the iPad 2 version at Target on sale for $19. Fits great on the gen 3. Doesnt seem too tight and there aren't any bulging where the case is being torqued out.

Hope this helps.

Is anyone else's case pretty loose in the bottom right corner? Mine just sorta flexes back and forth and isn't tight at all. I wonder if it's just a defect or if the design is poor.

How much is the Belkin Snap Shield secure supposed to cost? I see macmall.com has preorders for 26.99 and free shipping. I'd rather buy from Amazon though since I have prime.

According to the listing on Amazon, the MSRP of the Snap Secure is $35 and the regular Snap is $30.

Thanks for the heads up guys. Stopped by the local Best Buy and they had two of the 3rd gen snap cases left. I really like it, exactly what I wanted. The case snapped on snug and is not moving. The grip is much better than the alum back.

Bought a smoke Belkin Snap Shield for iPad 2 off Amazon for $12.

It fits the new iPad perfectly. Everything lines up and i'm a happy camper. I no longer have to wait for the Translucent Mercury smart feather :D.

Just picked up the Smart Shield Secure from Target for $19.99 and the iPad 2 version fits the new iPad perfectly.

I saw a ton of these at the Best Buy in Jersey City, NJ...unfotunately they were all the regular Snap Shield. I'm gonna hold off for the Snap Shield Secure. I would really like the magnets on the back. I know I'll regret buying the regular one now knowing the new one with the magnets is about to come out.

Perfect and thank you relaying this info.

I found no snap shield secure units stocked (the model with magnets on back), however this model for 3rd generation was stocked in large quantities, clear only.

I had previously tried the model designed for IPad 2 and was displeased with the force necessary to attach the case....these are definitely better fitting, though I am very surprised that Bestbuy stocked these so far in advance of the availability estimates of Amazon and direct from Belkin.

Thanks again OP and woods1110

I bought an iPad 2 model for my new iPad, and was very surprised at how effortless it was to put it on. I'm just hoping now that it doesn't crack, but so far, no problems. My old cheap one that I bought on eBay for my iPad 2 cracked at all 4 corners on the iPad 2, and then completely broke when I tried to put it on my iPad 3rd gen.

I have always had excellent luck with Belkin stuff, so I'm hoping no more cases will need to be purchased.

FYI...you can preorder the secure model on macmall.com for about $29 shipped.

Awesome! Thank you so much. I have not heard of the new snap shield secure and after finding out it has a magnet that holds the smart cover back I IMMEDIATELY want one so badly! This is exactly what I was looking for and if I didnt see this post I would have bought the regular snap shield! And it is a lot cheaper on macmall compared to amazon's pre-order.

I got an email from amazon saying the secure version won't arrive until mid April. Lame!

"Snap Shield Secure for New Apple iPad 3rd Generation, HD, 1080P, WiFi, 4G LTE, AT&T, Verizon (Clear)"
***Estimated arrival date: April 16, 2012 - April 20, 2012

eh I dont think I want it anymore then... now that I think of it, if the smart cover folds back completely and can be held by the magnet strip, that means it will get dirty since the microfiber side is touching the environment surface.

It also blocks the camera..

And isn't it easier just to fold the smart cover back, and then in half so that the external part of the cover is touching the environment surface?

That's why I don't mind getting the Feather. Plus, if it's a magnet, can't it pick up particles that are attracted...stick to your microfiber side, and inadvertently scratch your screen if you don't notice?

The problem with the feather is it locks the smart cover in place unless u remove the feather. Too messy for those occasions where you want to get off the smart cover

I picked up the new Belkin Snap from Best Buy and I really like it but I'm finding it provides more grip than the aluminum back but still not enough grip to hold the iPad on the side with one hand without it slipping. I guess I'm going to put a BSE on the back because when I had the iPad 2 it provided amazing grip.

Anyone find the bottom bit a bit loose, got a few crumbs from my Starbucks Blueberry Cheesecake lodged there!! :D

I've seen a few little flecks in mine too, don't really like that - it's the kind of thing that is going to actually cause scratches rather than prevent them. I bought it only temporarily because it was the only 3rd gen iPad rear protection in BestBuy but I just ordered the Dodocase Bookback on Amazon, I think that's more what I'm looking for

This is what I have been doing since I picked up the Smart Cover on Friday. It keeps the outer part of the SC exposed rather than the soft side. I don't notice it under my left hand when using the iPad.

anyone brave enough to try installing a BSE with this back cover?

I think it would be a good combo since the Belkin isn't a super snug fit.

mine is exactly the same... loose in that area and a couple "crumbs". i scraped them off with my fingernail and it didn't do anything to the finish of the case. i think it's a little loose to prevent cracking in the corners. i have tried to make it fall out of the case and it won't. i'm pretty happy with this + smart cover.
