Nice, but with no thunderbolt and no pro motion, it is a waste of money to me. Just get the pro or the mini. Just my opinion.

the mini doesnt have either thunderbolt and promotion
So yea, the 11" ipad pro is a better deal, the mini not really, just for those who likes the compact size

Still not needed.
At this poin't I'd love a used last gen.
The thing I'm mostly interested in is the modern allscreen design.

Well, it wasn’t a rumour. It was the logical thing to do, given the fact that the Pro has the same chip.
no, people thought that the ipad air will have the binned M1 from the macbook air with 7gpu cores .
But its the full 8+8 thats what is all about here, i hope

What does processor power and speed get you in a device that is purposefully throttled and hobbled by the crap know as iPadOS: Absolutely nothing of value. If Apple creates an iPadOS with a truly usable file system and the features to take advantage of an M1, then they will get my attention. But putting an M1 chip in any iPad, Air or Pro, is like putting lipstick on a pig. It is still just a pig.

I'm holding out for the refreshed 11" Pro as tempting as the Air is at the moment. Also because I hate all these colors - just give me raw silver aluminum thanks.
Holding out as well.

I don't hate all these colors in fact I really like the purple and different blue hue. I'm just not a fan of the new Starlight (too beige/yellow) and Midnight (too blueish) colors that Apple seems to be going all in on. Give me classic silver and space gray over those two. At least with the Air they kept space gray instead of the midnight.

Why not put MacOS on iPad? That will be a killer!
You don’t want to kill the simplicity and ease of use the iPad enjoys. Most iPad users will be fine with iPadOS.

What they need to do is add new features that are optional, but not mandatory and can be used by the pros
- Home Screen customisation (current app and widget placement in iPadOS 15 is pretty bad)
- external monitor support (could be achieved with universal control updates perhaps?)
- pro Apps to entice 3rd party developers to make iPad versions of their Mac Apps
- multi tasking updates : floating windows (eg quick note style), horizontal split
- update file app to make it more like finder
- …

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. M1 is going to be the minimum requirement for something big Apple is working on. It’s in their interest to get this into as many products as possible to ensure they can just “flip the switch” when it comes in 2-3 years time.
