Why does it matter if it's faked?

I just checked mine and behold: There's a 1 degree bend or so as you approach the top. Front pocket, NOT skinny jeans.

Hah.

This video is so fake.

The Unbox Therapy guys are not some scammers. I trust what they shot actually happened. People are upset that it was edited but at the end of the day what happened is what they showed. It doesn't mean it is a huge issue but it is certainly something Apple should take seriously. Clearly big phones are going to bend when enough pressure is applied. The question is, if the amount of pressure needed falls in line with other phones in the same category or not.

Am I missing something? Can you not see the phone bending in the video? In real time? I don't care if the angles were shot a month apart - how does that call into question what's actually visible in the video?

Can you post a photo of your bent iPhone? Also, are you planning on taking it to Apple to have them replace it?

I'll see if I can get you one but again, it was so small that I found it when looking at something in the reflection of the screen. I took a look at the side where the volume buttons are and I swear it didn't look perfectly straight. Looked at the other side and it looked fine-ish.

So I rested the phone on a table and pushed down near the home button area (If the phone was straight it wouldn't matter where i pushed, it would be straight, right? No gaps underneath. Also note I had the camera module hanging off the edge so that it wouldn't interfere here).

I used a torch on the other side of the device and there was around 1mm or less of light bleeding through from what I could see.

So yeah, it doesn't bother me too much but it's there and I'm worried it will get worse over time considering I've only had the device since Monday.

Haha, I've got another 6+ (gold this time) coming any second now, I'll open it up and see if I can snap some pictures up with that. of the bend.

On Twitter he's saying that he bent "multiple phones" and the one that took place before the concluding remarks wasn't shot well so he bent a new fresh phone half an hour later to get a cleaner shot of it bending. Eh, whatever. He's now offering to make a new video in real-time with no editing. How about he stop destroying $800 phones and do something useful like maybe give 'em to some poor person who'd be thrilled to have it?

----------

Holy ****! So I punched my monitor really hard and it cracked! #crackgate

But the only reason he's making a new one is because people are calling him a liar. It's unfair then to complain that he's trying to prove himself.

Photo with your username written on a paper by the side OR it never happened....

Check out the times displayed on the phone. It's 2:26PM when he starts the test, per the phone's display. Then, holding the bent phone, he gives his concluding remarks. At 1:59PM on the bent phone's display. I smell BS.

If it's proven this guy faked the video, he needs to be fired ASAP and sued into oblivion.

Geese everyone knows that. The whole thing was done with camera tricks the phone never bent, it was the lens of the camera that bent not the phone, very tricky...

Hmmm.. The Washington Post is the paper that broke the Watergate story to begin with, thus cursing us with an eternity of attaching "-gate" to every scandal or non-scandal from now on. Coincidence??

Ya, its coincidencegate!

Im pretty sure if I held my 5s the same way and tried to bend it it would bend as well... Pretty sure mist phones will.

I can complain about whatever I want. Doesn't hurt anyone.
Long live #OneFiftyEightGate

He did the same test in other phones and they didn't bend. The iPhone 6 only bent a little bit but not really.

How does it matter? The phone can be bend easily and he just wanted to show on video. That is called editing. Not fake, as the phone can in fact bend.

The video has made Apple stock bend too though.

You are right. It looks suspicious. See the photo. :(

Edit) He bent it before 1:59PM, made it straight back, and bent it again on 2:26PM. That was the reason why he could bend it so easily.

AM vs PM. He said ""When I woke up this morning and saw number of reports claiming…". It's PM.

Hmm...

I also do not think the video is fake. It might be possible, but I don't think so.

Now that the claim is out that the video is fake, it is drawing a tremendous amount of attention to other videos doing the same test, and people are actively searching for them on YouTube and reposting them. The creator of that video is also planning to make another one. Thus reinforcing that original point even more.

So this "fake" claim might not only be wrong, but it might be backfiring.

Look at the time on his clock at the start of the video it shows 1.56.

I have uploaded a photo of his watch on the second page of this thread

Product of insecure iPhone 6 minus sheep looking for a justification of their purchase.

Just get the device you like and enjoy it. Some find it tough to do and feel the need to justify their decision by disparaging others.

Good point. Exactly. It really only backfires for those who want the video to be fake. Not good. Hurts 6 sales too even though it is not affected. It hurts Apple. And those in denial are making it worse, sadly. Them and Apple need to admit. No other way by now.

I think the fact that each YouTube view puts money in people's pockets might be fanning the flames?

I mean, who cares about facts when mischievously stoking a controversy will make money fall from the sky. Quite a downpour, too.

How do you show how easy it is to deform the iPhone without using YouTube?

Genuinely curious!
