you sure about this? i can reach my max download speed of 1.2 mbits in transmission, azureus and utorrent. im pretty sure that most mac bittorrent trackers a very good and downloading from peers at good speeds. for the most part the main things a user looks for in a mac bittorrent client is the UI, the features, how it uses resources and if its intel, power pc or univeral binary.
No offense to Transmission user, I didn't get good speed of it in a g4 mini 1g ram machine , so I gave it up and use Tomato torrent which consumer almost same resource as transmission but offer fairly stable downloading rate instead.

What version of Transmission are people successfully using on Leopard?

The version I was running right after Leopard was released was constantly crashing for me. I switched over to Azureus which I can't stand... it's so bloated.

Transmission

But....I would go with Bit tyrant over it any day. Who cares if it is a memory hog when you have 2GB of ram :p

Azureus as its so awesome.

Takes time to set up, and if you are on a slow machine it can really bog it down, but on any Intel machine, youd be hard pressed to notice anything.

Dont dl 3.0 if you can help it.

I use Tomato, but it has problems connecting to the tracker (or it can't read the torrent file at all sometimes). Acquisition works, but them trying to get you to get the full version gets irritating, so I'm guess I'll try Transmission next Wednesday.

I use Transmission and Xtorrent...

Xtorrent is very good for searching without actually going to a site. I use transmission because some sites don't allow Xtorrent..

But really I would love to get uTorrent, I miss the auto downloads from RSS feed and all those features... Maybe if Transmission gets them I can live w/o uTorrent...

Wait...
Where's the love for Azureus?
Never tried Transmission but I find no fault in azureus.

until Transmission can support Safepeer and does not get you banned from trackers I would not consider it.

Azureus is supported by all trackers and has safe peer.

Transmission. I was an Azureus user for a long time, but in the last few months, Transmission's developers have vastly improved its BT protocol compliance and overall stability.

It runs like a dream on Leopard.

ok now we've got the client down, what is everyone using to find the torrents? I used to use torrentspy but now they dont allow us users so I'm kinda stuck.

I just recently tried out the latest version of Transmission as I tried a long time ago when it wansn't so feature-rich. The newest build of Transmission is great. The other native bittorrent client I've been using for the longest time is BitRocket but not sure if it's even going to go anywhere as it seems all programming is at a hault.

I have noticed that the built-in UPnP auto-mappting of ports in Transmissions works well; however, I noticed that a couple of times, my router has completely locked up with Transmission running a bunch of torrents in it. Azureus and BitRocket don't seem to throttle or mess up my router in any way. I'm still playing with it. I'm thinking the UPnP might be messing with stability of the router--not sure, just speculating here.

I will have to say that I'm adding a +1 vote for Transmission as its been proving itself to be very worthy for a native Mac bittorrent client.

I have no idea why people have this debate. Memory hog? That is one tired argument. This is a Leopard thread after all. I guess if you max out your RAM just to get the latest OS up and running and coverflow working correctly then you might get concerned about a little java client running in the background.

Torrent clients are about speed first, utility second, security third, preferences fourth and cosmetics last. I have tested all Mac OS compatible clients over the years on numerous machines. Transmission is "native" and "gets the job done?" That's the criteria? The GUI "looks good" on your desktop? You consider the current feature set of Transmission "amazing" and "greatly improved" only because you have no idea outside of setting your max ups and downs with a torrent client should do.

So plug along with Transmission, and please continue to start threads about your 15MB fios line not uploading as fast as it should...I can't wait until you discover usenet...

Okay ive tried Transmission for a day and while I like the simple and clean interface the torrent takes way to long to get going. Ports are open and everything. These are torrents that are being seeded by thousands and not just a few. On the other hand, when I open the same torrent with Azureus it begins downloading within a minute. Dont know what the problem is but you know what they say... The devil you know is better than the devil you dont.

Had the same problem with Transmission myself, which is why I only use Azureus.

Been using Azureus since early 2005, don't think I could use anything else. Resource hog? Sure, but I've got 2GB of RAM and usually just leave my MacBook Pro on to download and nothing else. Whenever I need to do some heavy work, I may turn it off.

It's just so powerful and has so many features, unfortunately I'm using the new 3.0 with VUZE... I've downloaded over 700 GB of data using Azureus.

I am regretfully using Azureus, its so bloated - but it gets the job done without any fuss....

Transmission .9+ has been sooooo unstable on Leopard PPC that I had to go back to Azureus. A shame, because ive been using Transmission on and off since 0.4, and it was rock solid on Tiger.

I regularly d/l the nightlies of Transmission, and the bugs are slowely getting fixed - but till they are completely gone, im stuck on Azureus.
:(

I had that exactly, but Azureus it slow down the whole machine a bit, despite 1+g ram installed. It has low cpu usage but I could feel whole machine was dragged while muti-tasking.

i'm using azureus since 2005, but lately, they had placed vuse in it, anyone has an idea how i can use azureus without vuse?

Transmission hands down, as all others I tried were too slow.

My only complaint with Transmission is when you have it set to allow "Unlimited upload" speed it will slow your internet to a crawl, even if you aren't uploading to anyone. I keep it set to 20 kb/s when I'm surfing and it doesn't hurt my internet speed.
