Am I the only one that's actually glad the 4th gen atv didn't have 4K? Lol. I got my F8500 1080p plasma when I heard they were being discontinued in late 2013 so it's fairly new. I'de like to wait 2-3 years to upgrade to 4K seeing as how there isn't much 4K content right now anyway.
Why would you be glad a device didn't have a feature you didn't need? What do you gain from its omission?

Looks like a promising upgrade yet I'm not feeling the run out and get one right away. Christmas list maybe.

Mine isn't preparing for shipment yet and I got next day delivery. I bought mine around 8 AM on the 26th. What time did you get yours and is it still processing?

As someone who just ditched their Apple TV for a Roku, I've got to ask: what is the draw? I'm an Amazon Prime member and unless Amazon puts an app in the Apple environment (assuming they would be allowed to), I plan to stick with Roku. I liked my Apple TV, but it just seems that a Roku is more flexible. Maybe people use the iTunes connectivity, etc. more than I did. I basically just used it for Netflix, HBOGO, etc.

I can only speak for myself, but I have over 3tb of movies and tv shows in iTunes. So I'll be adding my 4th ATV to the house. It's nice being able to let anyone in any room at any time access that content with ATV.

With it all being in iTunes it's a breeze adding it to any iOS device for travel or whatever reason someone would want to view that content on the go.

I like 4K as much as the next guy. It's fun to get really close to my 4k TV and look at the detail. But I think a lot of people don't understand or take into account visual acuity (your eyes ability to perceive detail at different distances). As an example, you start to loose the ability to discern the difference between 4K and 1080p on a 90" display after you get beyond 6 feet. Once you get to about 11 ft away, you might as well be watching 1080p. I also have a 120" projection screen. I'd love 4k on that because at 12 ft away, I'm in the the 4K sweet spot. But I can't justify a 4k projector at this point. Between that and little 4K content, there isn't a compelling reason for apple to move to 4k yet. http://s3.carltonbale.com/resolution_chart.html

Goddamnit, went to Oz Store and ours are going for $150 more for the 64g. I know Yanks gotta add tax but you can't tell me it's $150. Bloody ridiculous.

So, I ordered mine through the Apple Store App on my iPhone. One 32GB and one 64GB. The 32GB is preparing for shipment and the 64GB is still processing. Curious if anyone with preparing for shipment is getting the 64, and if anyone still processing is getting the 32? Maybe the difference in status is due to different availability for the two models...

I'll a agree with you on Prime. I currently use my XB1 for that and my ATV for everything else. But I have a huge library of HD movies and TV shows on a mac with many TBs of storage. Having all the stuff available on every ATV in the house and being able to easily put it on iPads is the main reason I use ATV over Roku. I can't tell you how many Roku's I've bought and returned. Every time one comes out and buy it and end up returning. Either because it doesn't integrate with my library easily or the UI was lacking compared to Apple. It also helps that I'm on huge GoT fan and I haven't had cable in years, so the exclusive apple had with HBO early this year was another reason. Also, we Airplay things all time time in our house. Being able to voice search across apps is the feature I'm looking forward to the most with the new Apple TV.

I also got 64, and it is still processing. I really hope it comes on time.

I ordered the 64gb and the fast shipping and mine is preparing for shipment, I ordered at 810

I had ordered a 32GB a few minutes after they were available, but later in the day, my gut just didn't feel right. I canceled the order and I'm taking a wait and see position. Their explanation of whether you should get the 32 or 64GB is pretty vague since they just don't know what developers will do with it.

I'll wait till Christmas time to see if anything actually stands out with it. We'd only use it for streaming and maybe some games but the games they showed off during the keynote were pretty sad, simplistic and just lacking.

Hahaha that's so ridiculous. Whenever I read "am I the only one.." I know that the comment is gonna be full of bs.

What are you gaining from not having it?? Nothing. If it had 4K you'd be amazed and Apple would have been the best company on the world.. now you're just in denial. Besides, your ATV would be more future proof. 4K is only gonna get more popular, but you probably just want to buy another ATV next year when Apple does add 4K. So Apple loves you. Good job.

Thinking this way is so dumb. It's like saying, ''am i the only one who's glad my iPhone only has 16gb of storage? Other wise I'd have to buy more apps to fill it."

lol...

I've been mulling over cancelling my order as well. Tried to this morning, but I am PFS now, so I'll need to return it. Not sure the Siri remote is worth the upgrade just yet.

I cant believe your comment has elicited more response!!!!! I have a Apple TV, a Roku 3 and a WD Live TV. I also have over 2tb of media though I have some in MKV which apple tv wont play. Yes i know I can put it on VLC on Ipad and stream to box but when I have players that dont require me to do that its points in their favor. Everyone has different needs. I want my box to have Amazon Prime. With Roku I have that, My WD will play any file type, MKV,AVI, H264. Also with Apple TV, not only does my computer have to be running to access media from it but I also need to have Itunes running. So FOR ME, its little things that add up. I like ATV interface. I would deal with it not playing MKV, I would deal with it not having Amazon Prime, I would deal with having to run Itunes to access media, but now its getting to pile up. When there are options out there that can do all these things, its sad ATV is falling behind

Mine arrives the 30th. Funny that Best Buy lists the 4th as the release date but you can certainly go get them on Friday from the Apple Store.

Any reason you think Apple wouldn't allow an Amazon Prime app? They already have an iOS app. The real question is whether Amazon will want to make one since they are pushing the Fire TV now.

I wonder if Amazon will start selling it. I'd like to take advantage of my current credit card awards (5 points on Amazon), instead of 2 points on Apple Store.

Not really. Why would I want a product that has features I dont care about and wont use. 4k isnt important to the person who made the comment. Do you think Apple is just going to add 4k for free??? That is going to add to the cost of the device you know. If the person who made the comment only has a 720p tv, is never going to upgrade to 1080 let alone 4k......why the hell would they want cost added to the device for a feature they will never use. I guess you know the person who posted better then they know themselves. You KNOW they would be amazed if it had 4k.You KNOW what the future holds for 4k and that the person that posted will for sure run out and buy one as soon as it comes out. Oh and you KNOW Apple will be releasing a ATV next year that includes 4k. What are your football picks this week?

Plasma rocks... paired with an ISF calibration they blow away any LED. I'll be content with my Panny ST50 until OLED TVs hit a reasonable price.

While reading the latest and awaiting my new atv arrival I was just thinking of a cool app concept that would be atv-specific: I recognize this would only be good for families with multiple iOS devices like mine but oh well- some sort of collaborative drawing game where at each turn you had to add something (maybe limited or somewhat predefined) to the "group" drawing on the big screen...so mom and dad, kids or friends sit around the living room and as their turn comes they add to the drawing on their device and everyone can see it on the screen...now there would be some goal and some reason for everyone not to see each other's personal screen...obviously this is just a hair brain idea but the point being I am looking forward to TV specific apps that didn't or couldn't exist on stand alone iOS devices. Anything involving broadcast by linking to a wifi antenna would be cool too. Good morning.

Have you played the game Drawful? It's part of the Jackbox game set. It's not exactly what you describe, but pretty similar. My friends and I play it all the time, it's a great use of modern technology to create a social game.

Mine went to Preparing for Shipment last night. The remote loop still says Processing. Although both have a Oct 30 ship date.

My Apple.com order randomly went to "Preparing for Shipment" last night. I wonder how long it will sit in that status.
Apple shipments stay in "Preparing for Shipment" status for a long time, up to the last minute before actual shipping. If your projected delivery date is November 4, Your order might be in "Preparing for Shipment" until the evening of November 3 and appear on your doorstep on the morning of November 4.

If you are preordering an Apple product, it will arrive on the same day that it is first available in the Apple Store, because Apple instructs the shipping company to hold it until then.

Otherwise, if you are ordering a product with custom options, they have to take it out of the assembly line to install the options, and that speeds things up. I changed an option on an iMac and got it in four days, even though the order acknowledgement said it would take four weeks.

If UPS says you are getting it on November 4, you are getting it on November 4.

Also, "personal pickup" has a different and equally legitimate meaning for BestBuy and Apple. For BestBuy, it means "When it arrives at the store, we'll have it waiting for you." For Apple, it means "Jump in the car and come right down."

Amazon has pulled all Apple TV's and Chromecasts from their store recently and will not sell them at all.
