Guys, I'm going to be mad if people who ordered their Apple TVs with regular free shipping receive their units before I do (since I paid for the $19.00 pre-noon next day shipping)!

That being said, I ordered my 32 GB ATV @ 6 AM PST on the day they went on sale (Monday, was it? Seems like forever ago by now). I live in Los Angeles so no problem with my location for shipping speed.

Amazon has pulled all Apple TV's and Chromecasts from their store recently and will not sell them at all.
Its the battle of the ecosystems right now. I doubt Amazon would sell it. And I doubt there will be an Amazon app on the ATV, which is shortsighted for them I think. Amazon is more than just movies and TV. They should try and lure the ATV users to their system. But that's up to them.

I preordered from Apple late Monday morning. It still says preparing for shipment and has a Nov. 2nd–Nov. 4th delivery estimate. So at least I'll have mine before I'd be able to pick it up at Best Buy. Some people actually paid for faster shipping? I got 2 free business day shipping, I felt like that's fast enough.

I guess it depends on which truck your order goes on. I have to think there is a fleet of semis circling Cupertino right now waiting to pick up all the orders. I originally specified the free shipping, but upgraded it to overnight so I could get it before the weekend. I'm not the most patient person, so I want it asap. I was hoping they would ship it out like Tuesday, but that didn't happen.

Never in my life I'm I ever going to pre order anything from Best Buy. I might just have s**** luck but the two times I pre ordered my iPhone's they screwed everything up. Wont even preorder a game from that place anymore lol.

Any reason you think Apple wouldn't allow an Amazon Prime app? They already have an iOS app. The real question is whether Amazon will want to make one since they are pushing the Fire TV now.

This:

It seems that it is Apple's decision--not Amazon's. They don't want to play nicely and make it an open environment (which is their choice). They also don't allow services like Vudu.

I'm waiting for reviews. $200 + game pad(s) + HDMI cable ( come on apple?! ) + tax and it's real money, possibly console money and that really gives me pause.

Yeah, but the "old" Apple TV doesn't allow third-party apps. But the new Apple TV does allow third-party apps. So technically speaking, Amazon could develop an app like they already do for the iPhone and iPad.

Apple does not block them from building and submitting apps like everyone else, don't let amazon fool you.

VUDU is on the app store, so I don't know why you think they don't allow it.

Regardless of whose decision it is to NOT have Amazon on Apple TV, it still steers me towards a service-agnostic device like Roku. No, it doesn't interface with iTunes...but there's very little there that I couldn't get from other providers. It seems like if Apple wants to sell Apple TVs it really needs to court these other providers instead of trying to force everyone to purchase content from them. Then again, maybe they make more money from the content than they ever will from the hardware. I don't know enough about their business model.

Regardless, my family all owns iphones and we have 2 Macs in the house. I've had an Apple TV for 3+ years but decided I liked Roku's offering better (Amazon, Ultraviolet support via VUDU, etc.). Maybe that's just me. That's what I was curious about--why are others buying Apple TVs. I looked at my options and what I wanted and it didn't add up for me despite my predisposition to use Apple products.

I hate Busybuy. I have 2 apple stores in my city, which means Busybuy redundant
LOL, speaking of BUSY, the Apple stores are way worse on a daily basis. If you think you're gonna escape a crowded store that is difficult to get help (let alone knowledgeable help) by going to the Apple store, that is big mistake.

Am I the only one that's actually glad the 4th gen atv didn't have 4K? Lol. I got my F8500 1080p plasma when I heard they were being discontinued in late 2013 so it's fairly new. I'de like to wait 2-3 years to upgrade to 4K seeing as how there isn't much 4K content right now anyway.
That's a mighty fine TV. I have the 64F8500 too. Love it! While I can't say that I am "glad" that the TV doesn't come in 4K, it would be no use to me either seeing as the F8500 is not a 4K set. Actually the F8500 was discontinued in late 2014.

I've never paid for expedited shipping for any Apple product launch. I always end up getting it delivered the same day as the official launch day.

BestBuy will price match a lot of stores including Apple gear. When Staples had $150 of the Air 2 the Apple store told me they would give me a $60(10%) discount but BB rung it up.

When Apple decides their base television product needs double the amount of their base phone product. Somebody in the ATV departement must have said... F* IT, let's spend the extra 5 bucks on that memory chip.

Both service you are talking about, Vudu and Prime, already make apps for iOS. Despite Amazon's posturing, I'd be surprised if both of these dont have apps for AppleTV in 6 months time.
For the record, Roku is a great device. However if Amazon is refusing to work with Chromecast, I wonder how long they they will play nice with Roku…
The main things keeping me on AppleTV is a library of iTunes TV shows and AirPlay.

They don't always price match. I once saw a great deal at Staples, Bestbuy should match it and beat the difference by 10%. But their manage said no. They won't match the price if it means they will make a lose. There's a lot of articles about this online, and there's people suing Best Buy. At least Apple store didn't say they will price match.

I cant believe your comment has elicited more response!!!!! I have a Apple TV, a Roku 3 and a WD Live TV. I also have over 2tb of media though I have some in MKV which apple tv wont play. Yes i know I can put it on VLC on Ipad and stream to box but when I have players that dont require me to do that its points in their favor. Everyone has different needs. I want my box to have Amazon Prime. With Roku I have that, My WD will play any file type, MKV,AVI, H264. Also with Apple TV, not only does my computer have to be running to access media from it but I also need to have Itunes running. So FOR ME, its little things that add up. I like ATV interface. I would deal with it not playing MKV, I would deal with it not having Amazon Prime, I would deal with having to run Itunes to access media, but now its getting to pile up. When there are options out there that can do all these things, its sad ATV is falling behind

I have about the same amount of content, i have covered all of my HD DVD's (yes them, don't judge) and i use Smart Converter and have converted my entire library for my Apple Consumption. It was pretty simple and it also plugs that library into Plex, which i HOPE to actually get use out of this weekend, with the new ATV4.

Interesting idea. I have thought about doing the same, but I am concerned that the rips would not have 5.1 audio, and only be stereo. Since I have a decent sound system, that's a deal breaker for me. Is there a way to rip DVDs while preserving the 5.1 audio?

And yes on ordering from BB. I don't like the store, but I have a store credit that I need to use up. So I get my ATV with out spending any new cash.

I have a strong feeling that the people who ordered the 32GB will sorely regret it.
I think it depends on what they'll be using it for... I ordered the 32GB, because I honestly don't need more than that for a streaming device. For my iPhone I have 128GB, but that's because I actually take it out of my house and obviously local storage is necessary (for me anyway). My ATV on the other hand, I really don't need much local storage. I'll be using it mainly for Netflix and streaming music. I wont be storing any movies or tv shows (I have streaming services and a bluray player for that). Also, I don't go crazy with apps (any I use I'm sure won't be gigantic)... game wise I highly doubt I'll be downloading too many whatsoever. If worst comes to worst.. I'll just get a 64GB for my living room and replace my ATV3 with the 32GB one. I highly doubt that will happen though.
