I like 4K as much as the next guy. It's fun to get really close to my 4k TV and look at the detail. But I think a lot of people don't understand or take into account visual acuity (your eyes ability to perceive detail at different distances). As an example, you start to loose the ability to discern the difference between 4K and 1080p on a 90" display after you get beyond 6 feet. Once you get to about 11 ft away, you might as well be watching 1080p. I also have a 120" projection screen. I'd love 4k on that because at 12 ft away, I'm in the the 4K sweet spot. But I can't justify a 4k projector at this point. Between that and little 4K content, there isn't a compelling reason for apple to move to 4k yet. http://s3.carltonbale.com/resolution_chart.html

I think a lot of people don't understand or take into account that peoples' visual acuity VARIES SIGNIFICANTLY. I can easy make out the difference between 4K and 1080p, even on a 50" TV, from 6 feet away. It's not even a contest.

Interesting idea. I have thought about doing the same, but I am concerned that the rips would not have 5.1 audio, and only be stereo. Since I have a decent sound system, that's a deal breaker for me. Is there a way to rip DVDs while preserving the 5.1 audio?

And yes on ordering from BB. I don't like the store, but I have a store credit that I need to use up. So I get my ATV with out spending any new cash.

So far, it would appear that SC preserves the files and audio, it also can attach subtitles. Obviously the files are larger so depending on the want/need of a film I choose to par it down or remain bit for bit

As someone who just ditched their Apple TV for a Roku, I've got to ask: what is the draw? I'm an Amazon Prime member and unless Amazon puts an app in the Apple environment (assuming they would be allowed to), I plan to stick with Roku. I liked my Apple TV, but it just seems that a Roku is more flexible. Maybe people use the iTunes connectivity, etc. more than I did. I basically just used it for Netflix, HBOGO, etc.

If you're a Amazon Prime customer (and not in the iTunes ecosystem) then I'm not sure why you're asking the question...

Any answer that includes something that interests you about this device would be the draw...

This is cool about Best Buy because I have a 10% movers coupon and a 15 dollar gift certificate that I am planning to use to purchase mine.

While reading the latest and awaiting my new atv arrival I was just thinking of a cool app concept that would be atv-specific: I recognize this would only be good for families with multiple iOS devices like mine but oh well- some sort of collaborative drawing game where at each turn you had to add something (maybe limited or somewhat predefined) to the "group" drawing on the big screen...so mom and dad, kids or friends sit around the living room and as their turn comes they add to the drawing on their device and everyone can see it on the screen...now there would be some goal and some reason for everyone not to see each other's personal screen...obviously this is just a hair brain idea but the point being I am looking forward to TV specific apps that didn't or couldn't exist on stand alone iOS devices. Anything involving broadcast by linking to a wifi antenna would be cool too. Good morning.
A bit like a more involved and varied Draw My Thing.

Watching full 4K and not the kind that Amazon Fire will have is night and day to 1080p. It really is like a mirror.

I ordered one from Apple and paid a additional 17.00 for next day shipping. Although my order status hadn't changed yet. I just canceled my apple order after seeing this article and ordered from
Best Buy for store pickup on 11/4/15

I have 25.00 in Best Buy points, plus I'll get my 17.00 back for next day shipping. So I get to save 42.00 for being patient. Lol,I can wait. I'll just read everyone else's posts on how great it is until 11/4 :)

I have 40.00 in Staples Rewards and had 80.00 in Best Buy Gift Card. Best Buy won!!! I have 1 Apple TV now which I guess I'll throw into EBay for ****$ and giggles so I might be able to take off another couple of dollars in savings. This isn't a watch or phone, so a 5 day wait is not too bad.

Anyone actually have an idea from where the Apple TV are going to be shipped? All from China like usual?

I'd rather get the box now and return it in 14 days if I don't like it vs. not ordering it and then in a few weeks deciding I want it when availability could be low and then have to wait.

Some apps will be priced high at first since they are the only game out there, but some will be low/free so that people with spread the word and they will rise in the charts.

Although, you might be able to buy these in iTunes even if you didn't have a device (I had a boatload of iPad apps I purchased before I even had my iPad from when I saw cheap/free deals).

Well, there's always a possibility that if you're even more patient, you might save even more around black friday.

I guess I'm trying to see what interests others to see if it includes something that interests me. Personally, interoperability with various streaming services is more important than being iTunes compatible.

You're probably looking at the wrong box then, at least at this time. You need to wait for some more apps to see what companies create. Also need to wait to see if Apple ever gets contracts for it's own (mythological) streaming services.

Just got a notification from Best Buy that I can pick up my ATV on Friday the 30th. Anyone think they will actually have them in stock at Best Buy on Friday?

Why would you be glad a device didn't have a feature you didn't need? What do you gain from its omission?
You seem to have missed my point. The reason I'm glad is because if it had 4K, I'de be running out to upgrade my tv (which doesn't need upgrading) right away to take advantage of 4K. Make sense?

Not one bit, no, sorry. If a (cheaper) device supported an additional feature you'd upgrade the more expensive piece of equipment just to use that feature? Or, do you think that supporting 4k means they drop support for 1080p?
It's pretty confusing. I mean, my iPhone supports bluetooth headphones but I haven't rushed out to buy a pair.

I have about the same amount of content, i have covered all of my HD DVD's (yes them, don't judge) and i use Smart Converter and have converted my entire library for my Apple Consumption. It was pretty simple and it also plugs that library into Plex, which i HOPE to actually get use out of this weekend, with the new ATV4.

Whoa, whoa, whoa, stop the clock........ATV4 is capable of using Plex???? That changes everything. You shouldnt even have to convert if your playing it through Plex right???? I know I can convert but......it just takes too long on my pc. I need a better processor before I would do that. Please update and tell how it went with Plex, I cant believe ATV has a Plex app.
