It's not just Best Buy. My boss was supposed to get his today and even though he called 3 times this week to make sure he would get it today, he just called AT&T and was told he wouldn't be getting it today and they don't know when it will come in. Needless to say he is PISSED.

I'd be so pissed. How can they not fill pre-orders... isn't that the meaning of a pre-order? So you can reserve the stock?

They have my phone at radio shack but I can't get it because they can't get through to AT&T for the activation. So frustrating.

This reminds me of the iPad 3 launch - I ordered from Apple within 20 minutes of them going on sale, but I then got an email saying the shipment to the UK was delayed because they were diverting to the US and I wouldn't get it for another week! Bad news, as I'm a developer and needed to update apps for retina display.

However, there is no doubt that the fact you pre-ordered a phone from Best Buy means you will be able to buy it before any consumer trying to find one on their own.

Bullcrap. Went to the Apple Store at Roosevelt Field Mall in NY today, got in line around 6AM, walked out of the store at 8:45 with a phone.

Try someone who worked at Best Buy and saw the incompetence first hand. If you are going to giggle, make sure its cause you aren't the one who should be laughed at.

If you worked at store level, you don't know the relationships, contracts, etc that go on between retailers and vendors. I'm not defending BB, it's just not their fault. They give projections to apple and apple fills the PO's at the last minute, best buy has no control over what they receive with items like this.

Yeah, totally painful. I don't know how these people are gonna handle it.

I guess they will just have to go on with living their lives as this means absolutely nothing in reality.

Give me a break. These people are excited and then get let down. Of course it's painful. Will they survive? OF COURSE! But part of the fun is getting it on the first day and now they don't!

If you are a sports fan and your team loses the World Series, is that not painful? But you survive right? It's FUN.

No. Pre-orders in best buy's system are only a basis for a projectional PO that they send over to Apple. It's still Apple's call of how much stock to send them.

Just came back from an AT&T store about 30 minutes ago (had to switch lines since I used someone elses upgrade) and they still had enough stock of pretty much all the models. People were walking in, and then walking out with their new phone. No pre-order needed.

Funny that you posted this...I just got back from lunch and the guy in line behind me had just done the exact same thing. He said there was no line, and he was able to pick his color/HD size. I'm in the "Preparing for shipment" mode via the online Apple store...and thinking I should have just waited and strolled into the ATT store myself. *face-palm*

I pre-ordered mine and got $50 gift card. Can I cancel mine on line and get my $50 back, or do I have to go to the Best Buy store?

used to be top dog

used to buy everything at best buy, the coupon thing was cool, etc but the combination of this sort of stuff (always foul up preorders, never have their crap together) and limited supply on things, prices went up, amazon.com, etc always beat their prices so avoid Bestbuy now at all costs. Their staff are usually some of the laziest non-caring young kids for the mostpart i've ever encountered, this is not all of course some are nice and caring and there to help, but from my experience last few years or so. It's a shame

By they way, this applies to the apple store kids too, a notch above Bestbuy, but overall it seems their staff have become non caring kids as well. Must be an overall customer service thing in this country hence i buy everything online now and save the BS of driving and dealing with morons

Then I was one of the fortunate ones to get my phone this morning. It only took 40 mins. I was there 2 hours before opening, but got taken care of at same time as people who had their appts at 8am. Unfortunately the only phones they had left for walk in were Verizon or Sprint, but AT&T was all gone.

Accidents happen, but no apology from Best Buy??? I can see that they are going further downhill...

Could it be that UPS is just holding delivery til today? Apple did after all request all deliveries be held. This wouldn't suppise me with how dumb UPS is.

Its not like Best Buy did not order enough from Apple, its Apple did not allow Best Buy to have enough.

Not Best Buys fault, but I knew better this year and pre ordered from Apple. I have my new phone now. Way better than waiting in line, although that was cool/fun in 07/08.

I rarely post, but I felt I had to with this news.

With iPhone 4, I was in line early for the pre-buy... I was #8 on the list, with my friend as #7.

When the iphone 4 came out, magically we'd been moved down the list. "We only got 10 of each phone in" they said. No problem I thought, I'm number 8. Nope... now I was #16 and it took 2.5 weeks to get my phone from thenm.

Lesson learned and I refuse to buy anything of importance from Best Buy again. Mongoloids screwed up my order and/or the staff felt like buying some phones and jumped the line.

Today, I am holding my phone in my hands, on day 1 of launch. I purchased it straight from Apple. HAHA best buy, you suck!

This totally sucks and it's the first time I've had a problem with a preorder from Best Buy. (They should call it a reservation and not a preorder, by the way). But I can't really blame Best Buy. It seems just about every place I've talked to in my area received fewer phones from Apple than they were expecting.

It looks like Apple has screwed the pooch on the iPhone 5 intro. It's beginning to look like possibly Apple could be heading for a fall. Especially when I read the article that said that hedgefunders that are anxiously looking for some positive news to bestow on their investors are pouring megabucks into Apple stock hoping that the ride lasts for the next quarter. When they start getting out of Apple stock, watch your step because the crater that will be left will be large.

If I had megabucks, I'd consider shorting Apple stock soon...

Apple has largely ignored their desktop and what remains of their professional users by lagging on updates of their hardware. The latest OS X updates (Lion and Mountain Lion) have largely been viewed as cosmetic (especially Mountain Lion)... Sure, the iPod saved Apple, the iPod and Jobs. Who will save Apple now? They seem to have begun to loose their way...

Pissing off the 'People of Wal-Mart' could leave a mark...

At least this isn't because of Best Buy's self inflicted shots to the head...

This should be a lesson... NEVER PRE-ORDER!

You'll likely get it much faster by checking your local Verizon/AT&T store if they have any in stock during the first week.

I was able to get my iPhone 4 and 4S on their first release day in the AT&T store, and I didn't even have to wait long in line. (I was nowhere near the front)

They say up to 28 days as a safety net. But it's in fact a lot sooner then that. Maybe will have to wait a week or 2. It happened with me and Best Buy last year with the iPhone 4S launch.

Broken promises from Best Buy

Paid a $100 deposit for 2 phones and was repeatedly assured that since I was 4th in line I would be able to get a phone release day. Called last night to tell me that I wouldn't be able to get a phone for 2-3 weeks. Told them I wasn't happy and wanted a refund and they refused. I wasn't told that there were no refunds. Today I will be contacting my bank to refute the charge. Best Buy lost a customer yesterday. One that spends several grand a year on electronics and computers. And one that tends to post how they feel about experiences, good or bad, on review sites and facebook and twitter. Way to go, Best Buy!

Now contrast that with my experience at Apple today. I got in line at 6:30 am, was offered breakfast and drinks several times during my wait. Got confirmation that I was going to get a 2 phones less than an hour later. Had a slight hiccup with my port from AT&T to Verizon (thanks to AT&T providing bad service) and Apple took the time, as they were swamped, to make it right. I was then grabbed by one of the business consultants who then offered to take me back to their conference room to set things up. I've been here for almost an hour getting both of my phones synced, all the while having coffee and bagels supplied by Apple. Night and day difference. Love the Apple Store on Knox Street in Dallas.
