Major retailers are gearing up for the upcoming holiday shopping season, which officially kicks off on the post-Thanksgiving shopping day of Black Friday. Following leaked Black Friday sales flyers from both Sam's Club and Target, Best Buy today published its door buster deals ahead of the November 28 shopping holiday.

Similar to Target, Best Buy is discounting all iPad Air 2 models, with prices starting at $399 for the 16GB WiFi-only version. While Target is offering a $140 gift card, Best Buy is offering a more straightforward but smaller $100 discount off the purchase price of the device. Best Buy also is slashing the price of the iPad mini 3 by $75, lowering the cost of Apple's latest tablet to $324.99 for the base 16GB WiFi model.

Customers looking for Mac hardware can save up to $200 on select MacBook Pro, Retina MacBook Pro, MacBook Air and non-retina iMac models. Other sale items include the 16GB iPhone 6, which is being sold for $100 with a new two-year customer agreement, the 5th generation iPod touch 16GB ($149), the Apple TV ($89), a $100 iTunes gift card ($85) and select third-party accessories.

Best Buy is opening its retail stores in the early morning hours on Black Friday, with times varying by region. Shoppers can visit Best Buy's Black Friday website to find the specific retail hours for their local stores. It's that time of the year again! I know it's sad, but, I wonder how many people are going to get beat up or even killed this year.

Just make sure you read the fine print. I've seen Best Buy advertise last year's models as this year's at a "discount" many times in many places. It's shady as all get out.

I personally wouldn't recommend anyone shop there for an Apple product unless they really know what's what with Apple and know exactly what they want.

i told my mom to go there for her apple tv, get the gift card and buy an xbox game for my kids for the holidays

I heard most Best Buy stores are opening at 5pm on Thanksgiving.

Honestly, **** all these companies for putting the dollar over their employees families.

Darn, I was hoping someone would discount unlocked iPhone 6 models. At least they have a good deal on the iPads.

While I agree with your statement. The employees are aware of having to work holidays at a retail company. Not to mention a lot of them volunteer to work on holidays, especially if they are getting paid double or time and half.

as long as they remember to give thanks to the natives who 'relinquished' their land to us, who cares about a black eye/stampede or two..?

i spent a few minutes trying to make that sentiment into a joke but it kinda fails, ultimately... i hate this quote-unquote holiday. i'll bet 90% of those who take the day off shopping were 'too busy' to vote last week.

Hey MR, let me know when Best Buy flip flops on Apple Pay (which they will). Until then, there's nothing I want to hear about them.

Is there a limit on how many $100 gift cards you can buy? If not you could potentially purchase enough face value to buy, say, a fully loaded Mac for c.$3700 (37 gift cards) and save 15%. It sure would be a drag to type in the number of all those gift cards though.

You know I used to feel exactly the same way but I've turned the corner on this topic. I think seeing the protests to increase minimum wage played a big part in my change of heart. Yes, it would be nice if everyone got to stay home on every holiday (and get paid for it in many cases) with their family. However these stores being open on holidays does provide the ability for people who for whatever reason are working what are generally low paying jobs to get in an extra shift or two and earn some extra cash. I'm no longer against it, although you won't find me out driving around on Thanksgiving night to go shopping either.

It's pretty sad. Hopefully Cyber Monday hurts Black Friday sales to the point where they scale back a bit. Especially with Target announcing free shipping through December 20th, they should take a hit on Black Friday store sales.

Buy at target and get your credit card stolen. Buy at Best buy and no option for Apple Pay or CurrentC. Really, no way I am shopping this holiday at either location.

I saw a lady doing that for her disney vacation. She had stacks of gift cards she was buying from Target at a discounted rate.

Can you buy apple hardware with an iTunes gift card? I thought you had to get an Apple Store gift card to purchase hardware?

It's probably best that they didn't vote. I feel like we already have way too many uninformed voters as is. I spend several hours (or days) researching all of the candidates who will be on the ballot before going to vote, and as a result I generally end up with a pretty mixed-ticket. I refuse to call myself "Republican" or "Democrat" because it seems to me both parties are full of a mix of crooks, idiots, and a few people who are actually smart and actually trying to improve the lives of everyone.

Of course there are positives. Target is giving their employees time-and-a-half plus and extra dollar per hour, so they're employees will get some extra cash for Christmas. But I think the wages should be higher to begin with.

Actually Target made significant changes in the past year and they have a new CEO, so that's not really an issue anymore.

So Danny what you are saying is the retailer should still make the same number of sales but make more money on each because they are not paying workers in their brick and mortar stores?

They're iTunes cards so they can only be used for apps/music/movies etc. Not hardware.

No, I'm saying that Cyber Monday sales are starting to cannibalize Black Friday sales so there might not be a need for them to open so early years from now.

No, you can't iTunes cards to buy Apple items, and $85 is about how much iTunes cards sell for anyway. Been there, done that.

But I think the wages should be higher to begin with.

This I'll disagree with, and here is why. Generally low paying jobs equate to low skill requirements for the job. These jobs have traditionally been meant to provide an introduction to the work force for the young worker or as part time / second income to supplement a households primary source - it was a win-win for the employee and the employer in that respect. Increasing the pay rate for these jobs means fewer jobs available for new workers and for those needing to supplement their income as employers will not be able to employ as many people. If you think employers can afford it, take a look at the profit margins of any company that employs minimum wage workers. By and large the majority do not have huge margins to be able to absorb a doubling of minimum wage.
