So as this riveting post continued, my front door got opened, a giant frog jumped in, went right over to my iMac, and I had to resort to bashing it on the head with my Guitar Hero drum stick, ultimately resulting in it's demise.

Is this a sign of the fore-coming events that will take place in Best Buys nationwide on Thursday? We shall see.

Good thing my apple.com tracking number is sitting safely in its little box, or I might end up like Froggenstein on Thursday.

Hey guys first time poster here

I was lucky enough to get my phone ordered from Apple after 8-9 hours of trying on Tuesday and it is currently sitting in Hong Kong according to FedEx. Now for those not so lucky here's what I've been thinking (sorry if someone has mentioned this before but I haven't heard it yet)- everyone is worried about when to show up at Apple or AT&T on the 24th in order to assure themselves a phone but I think your best bet might be going to Apple on Friday morning, the day after launch. Why? Because a lot of people who reserved a phone ended up getting an order through online and won't be picking up their phone. They only hold the reserved phones til the end of the day on the 24th so come Friday morning they should have several phones that were reserved and didn't get picked up to sell on a first come first serve basis. Most people will just assume that it sold out on launch day and not even bother checking on Friday. If you get there first thing in the morning on Friday you might just get lucky. You might even call near closing time on Thursday to see how many reserved phones haven't been picked up. Good luck to everyone!

Best Buy is by far, without a doubt in my mind, the worst Electronics Store on the planet. Their staff is beyond moronic. They hire some of the worst people i've ever dealt with. There are websites DEDICATED to how bad Best Buy Sucks. You sound like this news has affected you a little more than you'd like to admit.

News? I don't think there was any news here except that their iPhone 4 documentation was published on the web. It's not very well written, has a lot of inconsistencies - everything I would expect from a giant chain store. The fact that they don't know exactly how many each store will get until the week of the launch was made clear when I pre-ordered - meaning maybe you'll get one, maybe you won't. So - that wasn't even 'news'.

I'm just kind of amused by how much hate there is for bestbuy. Not a big deal one way or another. It's just funny because the 24 page document doesn't say anything bad, or new even...

Oh wait - yeah I guess it is new that they are going to start taking pre-orders again on launch day so they can sell any un-claimed inventory to people ... So - that's good news, they'll let you walk-up and put your pre-order in and call you when it's available, anytime prior to 11am... no getting in line at midnight or 3am - now that's really nice of them..

They had me fill out a piece of paper with my name and number and in the top right corner they hand wrote in "8". They have barcodes scanned on the paper into their computer and then they photocopied the paper for themselves and gave me the original.

Thanks. I left that sheet in my car and didn't bother going to look at it until you said that. 27. Uh oh.

Interesting. I didn't even get a copy of the reservation doc. Just a sales slip
for the $50 gift card to us as the the deposit.

I was told that combines between all four models I was number 30 or so but they we splitig up the sheets into four seperate piles.

I wounded what they will
do for the white preorder that want to switch??

Or maybe I will just get an Aria instead. Love the sense UI.

Oh well I hope out of thirty I will still be like 12 or so
for a black 32 gig.

What a disaster. Something has got to change. I think Apple has pissed off as many people as they've pleased with this. Congrats on 600k units on launch day, but c'mon this is such a wreck. Apple has made all their partners look bad, too, which was avoidable with better communication and planning.
Nah.
I think if anything it is helping.
All this drama has caused so much emotion - good and bad, it's like an exciting TV show finale and you just want [it] even more. ;)

How early to go to an apple store in a mall or stake out an AT&T store?

The nearest Apple store near me is in a big mall 15 miles away. Any ideas how early it is allowed to go to a mall to line up and if the Apple store will open before the mall opens? My other option is to go to an AT&T store - there are 3 within 2 miles that according to AT&T would have iPhones but now I am concerned that they wouldn't have phones for people without reservations. The AT&T stores near me opens at 7am. The AT&T locations are at strip malls where you could wait on the sidewalk outside the store. Which would you try?

I don't even have a pre-order number on the top of my sheet. The lady at the Best Buy I went to said that there were not that many pre-orders, so hopefully I'll be getting my iPhone 4 that day.

I was 3rd at my Best Buy they wrote it on my receipt and the 2 people before me wanted 32gb white. Since I want the 16G I should be ok, but to cancel out the human error factor I put in a reservation at the Apple Store.

Not really. That is how many those locations have on order. They never send that amount out. It could be more or less.

Man I looked at those numbers anyway...they're scary low in most of those cases. I bet many of those places in Cali and Texas probably placed a whole lot more pre-orders than it even looks like they requested. And look at all the stores that only look like they're getting 10.

For their sake (and mine - #27!), I hope those numbers aren't wholly accurate!

Well At least it is a good estimate on how much they want :D

Apple originally allotted a certain amount to my store. Well about a week ago apple changed the amount after we had taken pre-orders. We had a store wide memo that told us to not take anymore until further notice.

I know how much mine has in transit, but most stores still have two truck shipments on the way so it could be more. The amount that it says on order is what they original promised to that store.

I think there are gonna be some confused employees. Will have them...won't have them...huh? lol

I meant that my store has more coming then the pre-orders we did. We could possibly get even more because we still have two trucks coming before launch day. I'm just saying Apple keeps flip flopping on how many they keep telling some stores they are sending them, hence all the confusion.

And I really suck at grammar. Oh well

Do you think your store is unique in that it will be able to fill all of its pre-orders or is it simply too speculative?

I worked for best buy for 2 long years. 6 months of those selling to people. I hate best buy as much as anyone else, but they are NOT the worst retailer on the planet. There are a lot of decent, knowledgeable kids in there. I also worked for a GNC... You wanna talk a money hungry company? Work for GNC for 2 months.

tl;dr best buy sucks, but they're not THAT bad (comparatively speaking)

I've also worked at Best Buy for about a year and while there is a lot of crap that I don't like about the company it has nothing to do with anything that concerns non-employees. Mostly just the idiotic managers and corporate bull**** that I have to deal with on a daily basis. I've never had a bad experience as a customer, even before I worked there.
