That's only about 2.5 months away. It's worth waiting unless you really need one now.
The Back-To-School sale likely starts in one month or so in the US.

That’s what I’m waiting for, although here in Canada it may be more like 1.5 months.

In 2023, it was June 5 in the US, and June 22 in Canada.

How? I have a 256GB WiFi and cellular one from 2022 and the Best Buy credit card. I only got $429 for a trade in!
I honestly have no idea, if that is what you are getting for that model then perhaps I messed up. What Best Buy is giving me for a trade is not a lot different than what Apple also said they would give me. The image below is a screenshot from my order details and shows what they are giving me. I just looked up that model number and that is in fact what I am trading. I was wrong, it is 525, not 540. 540 actually was the amount Apple would give me.

That's right. I forgot the sale usually starts in June.

Anyone know where on the Best Buy site this is shown? I'm a Best Buy Plus member but I don't see the AppleCare mentioned on the page where the iPads are.
It doesn’t show up until you chose an item. Once you head to checkout you’ll see 2 years AppleCare included with your existing membership.

Just go to Apple Education store and get $100 discount. Easy !

Or you could pay $899.99 with edu pricing from Apple. And no, you don’t need a student email address.

Came to say the same thing. There is zero verification, so I do not know why anyone would order any other way.

Is there truly this loop hole in the US?

Incredible.

Here in the UK there is most definitely verification.

If you don’t want/need it release day then wait a few weeks and it will be $100-200 off everywhere but Apple.. or wait for refurb.. or back to school sale.. since there probably won’t be a new release for 2 years.

Yeah, the US education store doesn’t do any sort of verification. I remember back in the mid-late 2000s (when I was still in college), Apple Stores asked for student ID (assuming you weren’t buying your stuff from the university bookstore), but were never super serious about checking it. Similar for employer discounts in-store.

I think Apple makes the US education store open because they also allow for parents of lower-education kids to get discounts and that includes people who home school and thus aren’t as easy to verify. Most student discounts in the U.S. are gated by verification services (so the alumni email or fake edu email trick doesn’t work anymore), but for whatever reason, Apple’s isn’t. I don’t know how common home schooling is in the UK, but that might be the difference.

I’ve used the education store consistently for the last dozen years or so for me or for my mom (who is retired now but who was an educator) whenever I buy a Mac or other big-ticket item. I used to use my employer’s EPP page on Apple.com (where they also do not check for online orders), but the education discount is better and you get to take advantage of back to school offers.

Very uncommon.
That might well be it.

Thanks for the insight. 👍

I ordered through this since the base model still shipped on launch day. Idk if I’ll use the membership but cant hurt (and maybe I’ll let a friend order one through my account). Plus the membership wasn’t taxed so I saved $4!

Whenever I go to the Apple Store I bring my student ID and email address. Just to be safe. They’ve never given a hard time.

I don’t think they really care but you get into the issue of ethics if you’re getting a discount you’re not entitled to. Unfortunately entitlement seems to be the rule of the day now.

Yeah, but--since I refuse to buy things from them online--that would mean I have to go into one, and the last time I went into one, it kind of felt like I was going to a funeral. Gone were the rows of music. Gone were the rows of movies. Gone were the rows of video games. Gone was the awesome home stereo room. In their places? A bunch of smart phone crap. Tons and tons of smart phone crap. It was depressing.
Well put. Every time I go into one, I'm virtually the only one in there. It's nowhere near what it once was. I used to love going there and spending hours looking around.

Good deal as My Best Buy membership costs only $49.99 a year. So, you save $0.01 by not buying from Apple, and get the rest of the year to spend even more money on things you don't need at Best Buy.

Well I'm sure many already had the membership for whatever reason and plus you get 60 days to return vs 15 days with Apple. 60 days alone is worth a lot IMO.
