Impressions on Inventory

Just came from my local Best Buy, and inventory is disappointing. Only 5 LTE ready devices available, none larger than 32 GB, primarily Verizon. For Wifi only, stock much better, but still constrained. I don't know where the rumors started about amazing stock for November 1, but sure didd't happen near here. :(

No information was given to me whatsoever about their stock on hand. What was communicated to you specifically? 50 were carted from the back, no mention of space and cellular total in stock. They probably had more in the back.

Well, at my little Best Buy, they got in only 2 cellular versions :-(. I'm going to have to go to the bigger store & hope there's not a huge line

Similar story for me - just came back from my local BB with my 16GB WiFi and black smart cover. There were only 6 people in line, counting me. I was back in my car by 8:15. The first guy in line wanted a 128GB, they said they didn't get any - but one of the employees called another BB where several were available and the guy headed there. The next guy wanted basically any cellular AT&T, and all they had were Verizon. Plenty of covers and cases though. And it seemed like if you wanted a base model like mine they had plenty to go around.

Apple it Is. BestBuy Fail

It's Done. Cant Wait. BestBuy lost a customer today.

----------

Yeah same, Apple has it available at my store for in-store pickup today, done! Forgoing $10 in rewards from BB but I'll live.

You were right. Apple had them and there shipping is pretty fast.

I never knew so many people bought 16GB iPads but they do. Everyone in the line I was in got a 16 GB model.

Got to BB at 8am only 3 people in line, they had only ONE verizon tablet, it was the white 32GB, I wanted the black 32GB LTE Verizon. They had maybe hundred wifi models

Put in in store pickup for apple today, they have it, terrible selection at best buy, -1 customer

Did I mention it took them 20 minutes to tell they didn't have it? None them knew the configuration numbers and were just clueless where the models were

Why blame Best Buy? They can't sell what they weren't given.

I showed up a few minutes after 8:00. Only one other guy buying an iPad and a bunch of employees standing around looking bored! Helps that this Best Buy is near an Apple store (I'm sure with a line waiting to pay full price).

I got the 16 gig black (box says black, not space gray), and they did price match WalMart's $479 price. The guy actually called WalMart to check to see if they still had stock. I guess they may not price match on launch day if the competition is out of stock.

The other guy asked about inventory and the girl said they had a lot. Not sure how many of the different varieties though.

I stopped by my local Best Buy store (in Tallahassee) at 7:55am. A couple of customers were already there and the BB person outside was very chatty with us. He had lots of manilla folders, apparently a folder for each possible configuration. There was a blue sheet of paper in each folder representing an available model.

Suffice it to say, most folders were empty. He said they only had 5 cellular models, a couple 16gb on AT&T and a couple on Verizon. And one 32 on AT&T.

They had some accessories, too. The guy in front of me bought a black smart cover.

I had my heart set on a Space Gray Verizon 64, so ordered from apple.com instead. It'll be here Monday and that will have to be good enough for this go-round.

After driving to one I'm told the stores in the area don't carry the 128's. Sigh. Drive another ten minutes to an Apple store. Walked right in and got my slate 128 wifi and cover. Out in ten minutes. Best Buy said they could order one for me. Yeah right. Like I have patience.

Oh, sorry! I was replying while you were still posting :)

No worries, I was a late edit, wasn't upset they didn't have it, especially if they told me right away. But they were seriously taking out iPad airs one by one looking at each configuration because they didn't have the key for what the numbers meant while customers just watched them. Just stupidity, everyone looking at each like "are they serious right now?".

And someone bought a 128GB air, only to come back 10 min later realizing they sold him a 128GB IPAD 4 lololol

I went to my local best buy in manhattan around 840. Was in and out with my 16gb gray ipad and black Smart Cover within 10 minutes.

Just returned from my local Best Buy (Ann Arbor, MI). Entered at ~9:30 am. Asked for a black, 32GB WiFi iPad Air. Salesman said he had two left. I purchased it and a black cover. Took about 5 minutes. I'm assuming that all the action took place before I arrived as they had a special table and register set up to handle new iPad sales. Most of the salesman/women were just standing around conversing with each other when I arrived as I seemed to be the only iPad customer.

Went o best buy at 7:45 this morning second in line they had no ATT 128g versions. They tired to sell me a broad band card, really? No Apple store near me went home an ordered from apple will be here on Monday. this is one of them any reasons I dislike best buy. It's one thing to not have a product it's a. Other to try and sell me a broad band card. I go to them once every few years and this is the reason I don't frequent them more often.

Got to my Best Buy today at 7:55 and there were only about 9 people in line. They brought us in and sat us down in a row of 10 chairs and started picking people from the line two at a time.

Two people ahead of me ended up leaving after one of the floor guys said they didn't have any 128GB models in stock. I ended up leaving with a 32GB WiFi Space Gray and a (RED) cover.

HAHA...I'm just picturing a dad pretending to be calm waiting for his son to get on the bus, waving goodbye. Then as soon as his son is out of eye sight, he runs like a maniac to his car and peels out of the driveway.

Son looking out of bus window "I think I just saw my dad weeving through traffic "

hahahah

He wondered why we were waiting in my car at the end of the driveway. I almost beat his bus to school, LOL. :D

Got to best buy just before 8, there were 3 people ahead of me. I got the only cellular model, a 32GB Verizon. Now to pick up a T-Mobile SIM during lunch. :D

Looks like the 128GB LTE's are available for purchase on BestBuy.com now. Hopefully some of the other models will come around sometime today.

There's also a $25 for spending $250 AMX Credit, too.

The Best Buy I went to had plenty of Wi-Fi models in both colors, but literally only received two cellular models period (both were Space Gray AT&T 16GB).

There were only about 25 people in line when the store opened and everyone was in and out with their iPad Air in under 15 minutes.

Best Buy - Colma, CA

First person waited in line at 7:47 AM,
2 people followed,
3 others waited in their cars,
No Verizon 16.

Best Buy - San Bruno, CA

Arrived 8:03,
No Verizon at all.

SKU check showed only 3 Verizon 16 in the entire SF Bay Area district.

I was the first person in BB this morning as soon as it opened. Lots of employees standing around, but only one who was in charge of the ipads? The did not have the black 32 wifi that I wanted so I looked at the table that had the cases. Only 2 smart covers and about 6 modal cases-all in pink.
They did have 5 of the white 32GB, but I was not looking for anything but black. I only saw around 35-40 boxes in the case.
This was a smaller BB so maybe they just didn't get the stock? I did see an employee with one open and another one purchasing one.
left to go to Target. Only 4 16 Gb wifi in white.
Went back to BB and picked up the white-still only costumer and it was now around 8:30.
Left BB and headed to WalMart. Even though I called last night and they had no idea about any new ipads at all. I still knew they had to have something and the employee was just lost.
Sure enough they had them. One lady was purchasing a 16Gb when I arrived. She must have been sent there by someone as she had no idea what she was buying and bought a bunch of accessories they will not fit. In her defense the WM guy was telling her all the stuff would fit. He even told me to check out the case-all but the otterbox because he thought that might not actually fit! Needless to say he was clueless and was asking me if these just came out today and are they any different than the old ones. In fact he seemed more interested in the fact that the minis had went down $50.00. He was telling that to all the other clueless employees who were standing around looking confused.
Well I did get the one and only black 32 that they received. So after waiting forever for him to actually go get it out of the managers office I was on my way. I feel like I get cheated out of a great buying experience purchasing at WM. Plus I lose my BB rewards points, but in the end I got what I wanted.
Small towns suck. I bet there is not 100 new Ipad Airs in town, but as of this morning I believe only a handful of people were actually searching for one.
Now to restore and check it out.
Oh, and return a white 32 back to BB.

Woke up at my regular time (6am) to find Best Buy offering in-store purchase only for all of the models. Hopped onto the Apple Store app, ordered the exact model I wanted (64GB T-Mobile in Space Grey). 2 hours later I got the email that it's ready for pickup.
Fortunately, there are plenty of Best Buys and Apple Stores in Southern CA. I'm picking up my iPad at an Apple Store that's across the street from a huge Best Buy.
Thanks to everyone for updating the thread. Enjoy your new iPads!
