What do you expect to happen when they pay minimum wages? To get anything decent they have to get sales commissions, so they do anything they can to sell and upsell.

It's really bad for the consumer. Still the internet is cheaper still, and you can read real user reviews on most online stores.

I don't think battery life will be a problem, they will most probably use the light from the screen instead of fitting an extra lighting source to power the logo. Like on the Macbook's they use the lighting from the screen.

The Macbook doesn't have a battery and a circuit board behind the backlight.

The consumer doesn't have to buy anything. If someone is going to a store and making uninformed decisions that's really his fault, salesmen on commission have NEVER been honest.

Maybe best buy is just making room in their stock for the 100 Palm Pre's they are set to get. They are just trying to find the best way to allocate those bad boys among all the stores nationwide. Best Way= Best Buy

An LED or OLED screen would be great for battery life, but highly unlikely. Of all the rumors, a front facing camera for self-portrait photographs (and possible video conferencing) would be fantastic.

I just woke up from a dream that I went to the Apple store and bought the new iPhone. Not "knowing" what it new stuff it had I opened the packaged and the first thing I noticed was a camera on the first screen. I screamed "Camera on the front!" and everybody in line starting clapping.

I really want a front facing camera. Really really bad.

but if you are going to new technology for the screen anyways...it would only make sense to go with OLED, since it is more efficient, gives more room inside the iphone for other components..and you can get really high resolution oleds these days.

dont get me wrong, i'd love for it to go OLED as well. but at the least i'd love for the resolution to increase and start getting cripser looking text. i couldnt believe how beautiful the small BB8900 screen with 480x320 is, and its probably half the size of the iphone screen.

I hate dreams like those. As much as I agree, I don't see Apple putting a front facing camera on this model. Maybe next years in order to drive sales further. Plus AT&T would have a fit, as I'm sure they wouldn't allow video conferencing on their network just as they don't allow Sling-player.

Have any rumors led to the possibility that Apple may utilize an LED or OLED screen?

i know it doesn't, but they do use the lighting from the screen, to power the logo lighting because when you dim the screen lighting down, so does the logo.

Not to get off on a Best Buy hate fest, and boy are they stupid, I am really hoping that the new iPhone will include an OLED screen and with the zune HD announcement I really think it could happen simple to facilitate longer battery life.

But do you think that Apple knew that Microsoft was going to put OLED's in the Zune HD? I don't really follow Zune rumors, but I think that was a pretty well kept secret as everyone was talking about it after it was announced like it was news for the first time. Maybe they have spies? Who knows how that information gets around. But I hope they did know in advance as it makes them more likely to put one in the new iPhone. If they didn't know, then I doubt that Apple would have time to source, contract, and replace all the screens in the new iPhone units that are sitting in a warehouse somewhere. They usually ramp up production months in advance. The first iPhone was pure marketing hype when they said they were "upgrading" them to glass screens. They made that decision most likely sometime around March 2007 when they started production.

i agree...there are totally amazing displays coming out these days..i really want apple to upgrade soon. Imagine an iphone with 800x480 display. You could read the web without zooming in..hehe.
i have been playing with a friends HTC touch pro...its got a smaller screen than the iphone..but the resolution is incredible. You cant even see the pixels..everything looks like printed text or something..really crisp.

you are missing his point...the macbook CAN do this..but the iphone CAN NOT, due to the internals making it impossible for them to use this method (not saying they cant do it another way though)

The rumors of the new iPhone are exciting and all, but I'm more curious about the pricing--especially for those who bought the 3G and still have one year left on their contract.
Doesn't affect me much, since I want to wait a while before I buy a new iPhone. However, the pricing will determine how much whining I'm going to be hearing on the boards.

this is interesting, because while the other rumor seemed to suggest the 8GB 3G would remain in the ranks (possibly at a lower price point), this one seems to suggest they will run out of both models
though I assume Best Buy are operating in the same shroud of darkness we are
so close now, we should just wait though I know it's not gonna happen :p

i agree an OLED screen would be nice, like the one used on the new Zune HD, but without a doubt apple will release a new iPhone this year :)

a nice glowing apple logo would look sweet too :)

+1; I'd LOVE to see the apple logo glow and be used as a flash for the camera!

June 8 can't come fast enough!

:apple:

You're missing the point. On the Macbook there is not a circuit board between the screen and the back, therefore the display lighting illuminates it.

The iPhone does have components between the screen and the back, therefore the screen lighting wouldn't show.

Can we move past this now? A lit Apple logo would be obscured by your hand during 90% of use in any case. Not sure what difference it would make. A bit obnoxious on a phone also...

I think its safe to say that Best Buy is always operating under a shroud of darkness. One that which no light can shed.

Best Buy is reported to have issued a memo indicating that iPhone 3G supplies were now in constraint, according to AppleInsider. The reports follows other claims that 16GB iPhone had been "end of life'd" in Australia.

In addition to these reports, Digitimes reported last week that 5 Taiwan-based circuit board manufacturers had already started shipping parts for the new iPhone which is expected in June. Taken together, there seems to be increasing evidence that a new iPhone will be revised at or around WWDC. Over the weekend, even some possible screen photos of the new iPhone were revealed from a Hong Kong based site but were quickly removed.

Meanwhile, analysts are still speculating about what processor might drive the new iPhone. Most expect that Apple will still be using off-the-shelf parts as they are unlikely to have yet had the time to ramp up their own custom chip production. For what it's worth, MacRumors has heard that Apple will indeed be using the ARM Cortex for the next iPhone. This is the same class of processor used in the upcoming Palm Pre.

In my opinion...

Given the sad state of THE "Mac" products (or lack there off), consider changing the site's name to iPhoneRumors.com.

Oh that's funny, too bad Best Buy employees are not on commission. The stupid people are the ones at the checkout, the people with some intelligence are usually the sales people, usually.

i know.. played with touch pro which is 2.8" 640x480 and it really looks incredible. even small text is always crisp looking and you dont notice pixels at all

The iphone LCD screen has been LED lit from the beginning. In fact most small LCD screens are LED lit.

I thought most LCD screens have been CCFL backlit up until the advent of LED and then OLED. Until the 24" LED LCD, Apple displays were CCFL backlit.

EDIT: Never mind. I didn't catch the "small" in that sentence. Thus the current iPhone is LED. My bad. So OLED is the next evolutionary step.

I just hope Best buy doesn't do what they did last time when I tell them I'm looking the new iphone

"Here you go..."

but as a flash for the camera that would be cool. Just saying :p

Weird. Last night I dreamed I was flying around in my underwear. Must have been the Tabasco sauce on my egg burrito for dinner. :D
