Has anyone looked at the new Satio from SE (was the project name Idou). I'm looking at this versus the upcoming 32GB iPhone. This looks like a real competitor for my $'s.

True 16:9, 3.5 inch widescreen
12.1 megapixel camera, intuitive touch focus, Xenon flash and face and smile detection
Symbian Foundation operating system

If it isn't an iPhone OS, it's not good enough! :apple:

For the ignorant folk, Best Buy is not short on any iPhones, that's a rumor. We are short on refurbished iPhones.

Just my feedback.

ETA: I work at Best Buy.

So now people are ignorant for not working at Best Buy? Thank God our shepard is here to lead us misguided sheep.

that's fine and dandy, but does the calculator turn scientific when you rotate it to landscape? if not, i'm not buying.

see, apple thinks of the IMPORTANT things people want!

LMAO...haha... :D :D

In all seriousness, though, it sounds interesting. I'm just wondering about the build quality though...Sony Ericsson phones have abysmally fragile build quality and basically just suck. I believe they were at the VERY BOTTOM of a poll, linked here on MR a while back, asking customers how satisfied they are with their phone from each manufacturer. (The iPhone was at the top, the BlackBerry was second.) ;)

I'm starting to believe the 16GB iPhone 3G getting EOL'd. Have the 8GB iPhone 3G as a low end device and introduce a new, higher end iPhone at 16GB and 32GB. If AT&T does this, it'll probably be $99 for 8GB iPhone 3G (and a lower unsubsidized price), and $199 and $299 for the 16GB and 32GB next generation iPhones. Even if AT&T doesn't do this I can see Apple continuing to sell the 8GB iPhone 3G to other, non-US carriers.

I called the Fido tech support to get a repalcement phone (my 3G has some odd issues every now and then) and the lady told me the replacements are delayed, and it does not show any information why, or when they will be getting new ones......
Fingers crossed that it is a delay until the next phone comes out

I think it has been EOL'd here in Australia.

I was in my local newsagent yesterday morning, buying the paper, when the lady behind the counter was asking the paper boy (who had just got back from his run) how to use her new iPhone.

I nearly fell over - she's not the sort to even know what an iPhone is, less still to own one! It seems that her phone company had rung her husband and offered them an iPhone each for the same monthly rate as their old handsets, so he said yes and they arrived the next day.

Sounds like a carrier shifting an EOL product to me!

Usually, stock slows down when a new product will come out. This happened last year with the 3G, but a few months before.

How do you support that statement? Blind loyalty or do you have something substantive to support that the iPhone OS is substantially better than S60 5th edition Symbian™ OS? I like the iPhone, I really do. I have used one and also used SE smart phones as well. Both are very good devices. I'm just looking at the breadth of features on the SE and believe is to be a worthy competitor with many features we all wish the iPhone had.

That is my point.

If the iPhone had the following it would be a real world phone/world beater:

High megapixel (12.1) camera with Xenon flash, auto focus and image stablization, Video phone/conferencing capability (while sharing the images from both cameras), 16:9 true display running 640x350, modem tethering (w/o hacking the phone), Call management/filtering supporting CallerID/Contact list rejection, Turn by turn navigation for free, sound and video recording. I'd love to see these features/apps on the iPhone. Oh and the capability to buy it unlock and free to use on the carrier of your choice.

Oh and one more thing, the Satio synch to your Mac's calendar and contacts and can play music too.

I hope Apple is listening. Make the iPhone even better!

replacement possibility

I have dust under my iphone 3G screen and by all indications if I brought it in tomorrow it would be replaced with a new phone. Do you think if I waited until august it would be replaced with a new next-gen phone?

I'm not sure if this applies...but if you check out ATT.com and look at the refurbs(I know just refurbs) the 16GB refurb is currently out of stock. Just saying...

I wonder if iPhone 3G may be capable of more than what Apple is letting on to? Not saying that it's capable of updating itself to 256MB of RAM, but perhaps Apple has found a way to squeeze more out of the CPU. I am only saying this because there aren't the widespread shortages that there were last year. I think it started in mid-March that supply started running low. I am just wondering why we aren't experiencing these same issues this time around when it's almost certain that 6/8 a new phone will be announced with a mid-July launch.

Really, though, I walked into an ATT store less than a month ago and walked out with a shiny new 8GB iPhone. I was thinking about waiting, but I had my reasons. In the end, I will still want a new one, but I wouldn't trade not having one for 3+ months while I waited. It was totally worth it.

the next chip isnt going to be the same one with a speed bump...it will likely be a ARM cortex a8...which is more than twice as fast as the current processor...and it will be at a 200mhz clock speed increase

..

The rumors of the new iPhone are exciting and all, but I'm more curious about the pricing--especially for those who bought the 3G and still have one year left on their contract.

I was just at best buy the other day. The guy told me they still had iphones in stock but I never saw him again once he went on break. His replacement used words like "fly" and "Def". Lots of stuff was "off da hook, bro". I had to leave. I don't speak "Emo"

Kind of surprises me that Apple runs out of these before the new rollout. . I understand they don't want to be stuck with a bunch of old phones, but one would think no sales for a few weeks is worse than discounting the old product--it's not like the last units aren't the most profitable anyway.

actually it's a very smart move. because EOL on the old models just ain't gonna work.

the first go around they under judged horribly. this time perhaps they did or will do one last small ship out right before an announcement on monday and when those 30 or so of each model sell out, that's it.

of course we are assuming that Apple is the cause of the inventory shortage by not shipping phones to Best Buy, instead of it being that BB stopped ordering more (thinking there simply must be a new phone coming out soon).

we shall see on Monday

I highly doubt that Best Buy gives commissions. at least not to everyone. maybe for the top most sales staff.

that said, some stores are awesome, some blow. and yes there have been complaints in several states about stores in those areas suddenly being 'out of stock' on items after the customer turned down one or more 'add on' items like the warranty.

so while it might not be the company policy to demand such sales, there's certainly something making certain stores push to the point of dirty tactics (negative reviews for management or something).

but it's no reason to bash the whole company. heck not even every Apple store is a total gem
