Target, Best Buy and B&H have all had deals like this recently.

9to5mac leaked that that Apple Watch 2 announcement is in March, so that probably explains the heavy discounting recently.

The fact that the product is now almost a year old is the reason for the discount. And an Apple incentive helping to make the discount easier to offer.

Best Buy is offering it because Target has been offering a $100 gift card since before Black Friday through Christmas.

I don't particularly like stores cheapening the value of Apple's brand like this.

It's the only reason why Apple Watch sold the way it did these past few weeks. Take away these deals and the watch is collecting dust. Should be confirmation to Apple that this thing cost way to much/people don't need it. Or it's a reminder that you should never invest in technology. $250 should have been the launch cost. Now I'm waiting for gen 2.

Target has $100 gift card with purchase, and you save an extra 5% when you use a redcard. That seems smarter.

Well your upfront cost are higher. Best Buy deal is better if you don't need the gift card. Plus with target you're paying about $5 to $10 more in taxes which slightly impacts the 5% discount. Some parts of Illinois have a 10% tax.

Does anyone else find it odd that almost every watch configuration at Best Buy has a open box along with it? Tells me that people are returning these in droves. I can only imagine the returns Apple had during the initial months when people were on the fence.

Research is ur friend, target had $100 off on Black Friday.

The Target deal was a $100 gift card. Fortunately for me it worked out. I bought the Watch at Target for $349, and got the $100 gift card. I then used the gift card to buy a discounted ATV4 64GB that I was gifting to someone else, making the price on the ATV $49.

Almost everything Best Buy sells has open box stock available. Probably says more about their sales tactics than anything else. Hard to walk through a Best Buy without getting pounced on. Not a big deal for me, as I tend to tell salespeople to leave me alone (politely) when I don't need them. But I could see others being pressured into buying.

Should have been these prices to begin with. I paid $300 total for my AW and still was too much.

Dang it. I just received mine from B&H and paid $349. It also came with a $50 gift card, so I guess I'm not really out anything.

So many discounts on the ill-fated Apple Watch.

This tells us one thing, and one thing only: it's not selling.

I wish it were not so.

I wouldn't consider it if the price was 100 cents, but I imagine others might.

Retailers do this every year with Apple products. This is no surprise. Note that there are similar discounts and promotions on iPhones and other Apple products.

That's a shame, I use mine as a time keeper, a fashion piece, exercise tracker for swimming, reminder, Apple Pay, iMessage, and much more.

Swimming? I've read about people doing this. Curious about your usage and experience. I just bought a Sport, but am hoping v2 is certified waterproof - I'll upgrade if it is.

Target has limited models to select for shipping online, and also for pickup - near me at least. Even Best Buy doesn't have all models unfortunately. Was thinking of upgrading to the 38mm Apple Watch with black classic buckle, but apparently that's not available on the website so I'm considering the Milanese loop.

Get the sport band and look at a Milanese loop elsewhere. I just got one on Amazon for $27 and it looks and feels great.

Or maybe it just shows that sometimes people don't like things and return it.

Jumping to conclusions like that is outrageous.

Hopefully they will have a sale on AppleTVs before Christmas. Would love to get one on a deal and be able to ApplePay for it with my Discover card and get an additional 22% off.

Would Apple price match my Apple Watch purchase from the Apple Store from 2 weeks ago? My return date is not until January so I figure they should right?

Just got Best Buy to do it for 2 watches I purchased as gifts during the Black Friday sales. Total of $108 back in the account!

When it comes to Watch jumping to conclusions is the norm. :D

Btw, 9to5Mac's Mark Gurman was on CNBC this morning and said he doesn't expect Watch 2 prices to change. I think we'll know the success (or not) of this product if Apple adjusts pricing. Though I wouldn't be surprised if Apple is thinking about an iPhone/Watch bundle on an installment plan. I think that could be popular.

Do you own a substantial amount of stock in Apple? Otherwise, why do you care about the value of Apple's brand?
I do, and I love that more :apple:Watches are being shipped! If people get a Watch, and they love them, odds are that they'll be great customers for :apple: Watch 2, 3, 4...

My introduction* to the Apple ecosystem was an iPod I got for free, and it led to an iMac, which my company purchased for supporting customers, to an iPhone, to another iMac for my wife, an iPhone for her, an iPad, several Macbooks, an iPad mini, a Retina iMac, and an :apple: Watch. This is due to release timing.

*I know it says Newton in my signature line, and I was deeply disappointed in it being jettisoned. Well, as deeply disappointed as I can be in the cancellation of a product line, which is, in the wide scope of things, worth about 8 seconds of time. Besides there really wasn't an "ecosystem" at the time, as it is now.

Wow. It must not be selling as much as they thought or hoped it would.
Or, it's selling everywhere, and this gets people in the door.

"And while we're at Best Buy, let's pick up an overpriced hard drive and a 900" TV!"

I wouldn't consider it if the price was 100 cents, but I imagine others might.
I would buy 1000 of them, and then go on eBay and sell them for $199!

Profit = Sales Price - COGS
ROI would be 5.025 watches, and I'm good with that.

Took mine into Apple Store they only price match up to 10% off so I returned it and went to buy it again at Best Buy. After using 2 $5 certificates I had I ended up saving $80 total. Awesome!

Yes it is $100 off the Sport. Better than B&H since you don't have to worry about a gift card.

I'm not sure about "better" they would be equal in the end, except B&H doesn't charge tax. I'm planning to use the $50 gift card on a Nest3. We had a Nest2 for 3ish years, loved it, dumped it soon after the Nest3 was announced and tried a HomeKit Ecobee3 with two additional sensors. It works well but we miss the Nest, luckily I got the E3 at a steal lightly used, should come out even if not ahead slightly selling it. Nest3 will be tax free too.

But yes, if you don't have a plan for the $50 gift card, paying tax at BestBuy might be the better option for some.

Still haven't seen one in public. Maybe the upcoming version 2 redesign will get people to put it on their wrist.

One thing I'd like to note is Apple Store does price matching.

If you're bent on purchasing an Apple Watch from an Apple Store,
you can ask them to price match Best Buy's deal, and they most likely will.
But, but, but, but that doesn't fix the cheapening of the Apple brand! Our status is in the toilet right now!
