Why on earth would anyone buy a (non-retina) Macbook Pro???

What, spend twice as much as you would on a console, for tech from 2012, and get a 10th of the performance?
This has nothing to do with consoles.
Im in university doing computer science and I brought one with the retina display as it was suitable for me and also I had the money. Why on earth would anyone buy a (non-retina) Macbook Pro???
You get double the graphics performance on the MacBook Air compared to the 13" 2012 MacBook Pro though. And even better with the 13" rMBP. I don't understand your initial comment.
Inst this pretty much a carbon copy of last year's Black Friday deals at BB?
If you're still burning CDs, the non-retina MacBook Pro is definitely the computer you need. What other choice is there for people who want to burn CDs on the go?![]()
This doesn't make any logical sense. Neither the Intel HD 6000 or the Intel Iris Pro 5200 are very capable for gaming. The MacBook Pro is going to be seriously bogged down with it's 'retina' display... just like the 5k iMac sucks for gaming. THATS WHY you wouldn't want to get retina display if you wanted a laptop that can also perform well.

Am I missing something? I know Macs aren't great for gaming. It'd be stupid to buy one for that purpose. But this is what you said:

My point is that you get better graphics performance on both the MBA and the rMBP, (double the performance on the MBA, moreso on the rMBP) so buying a non-Retina MBP for that purpose is silly.
Again, is there something I'm missing?
So the funny thing about target is they had a ton of these ipads on black friday. Last year I remember it was a giant cage full, we went like 2 hours after they opened and they still had some.
You're not going to be getting double performance on a retina display unless you lower the resolution but then make it look VERY weird. So no, retina displays are a no-go for gaming. I've got a 2012 15" MacBook Pro with a GTX 650m and it performs very well for a gaming laptop thanks to the native resolution being 1680x1050. If I had double the screen resolution, I wouldn't even bother, the frame rates would be awful. That's one of the main reason why I didn't get a rMBP.
Cons:replaceable parts
built in cd/dvd drive
An external superdrive. Not that most people would want to burn CDs on the go in 2015...What other choice is there for people who want to burn CDs on the go?![]()
Your Macbook Pro is also painfully slow and louder due to the HDD. No thanks.I bought one last year because of hard drive space. I got a 500GB MacBookPro for $1000. The similar Flash drive space for a Retina model has a price of $1800.
That's huge. Honestly is Apple doesn't provide a more reasonable pricesd laptop with good HDD space, I will be switching back to Windows when I buy a new computer in a year or two.
Cons:
Which still makes me wonder why anyone would buy one.
- Non-Retina Display
- Slow HDD Standard, and SATA 3 Instead of PCIe
- Outdated CPU & GPU
- Thicker, Heavier
- Worse Battery Life

We need to stop supporting these companies that start these sales on Thanksgiving day itself. It's disgusting. My family doesn't get together as often any more since many of them moved halfway across the country. But then they feel like they need to go "get the deals before the other guy does" and we don't get to spend as much time together. It really irritates me, especially since I usually get the same or better deals by searching around on Cyber Monday. I tell them this, but they still shop. Mindless drones…sigh. If I had it my way, there wouldn't be sales on Friday either. God forbid families spend more than a day with each other out of the year.
Good luck with that...
I tried to use my Discover like that at the Best Buy in State College, PA and Altoona, PA... rejected both times.. card has a limit well above the price of the MBP I was trying to buy and $0 balance, so it's not my credit card that caused it to be rejected.
I was planning on buying the Apple Watch this Friday for my birthday. I may have to wait as I'm sure the $599 models will be the full $100 off.
