It's way too expensive for what it offers, no thanks. I might pay a couple of bucks a month, but really why bother when other News apps are just as good? I'm also boycotting it due to Apple's incessant need to put News+ stories in my feed which I always mistakenly click on, like really Apple you need to try to trick me into subscribing?

Why pay for free news?

Because free news uses the same business strategy as free social media accounts.

In the uk, you can sign up to services like PressReader through your local library for free. You get thousands of magazines and newspapers for free.

Apple News+ is a worthless service.

Apple did a 3 month free thing around thanksgiving last year. I took advantage but cancelled before the renewal. I'm happy to do the same again. Many thanks.

What's not to like? Incredible number of magazines to read. 3 months for free - can't beat it. I've been using  News since it came out and love it. Just set a reminder for a few days ahead of the cancellation date and cancel if you don't want to pay the fee. Nothing to lose. Certainly worth the try.
Yeah I’m baffled too. I find it’s a pretty good fit with an iPad.

I tried Apple News+ but just didn’t see the value in it so cancelled before the trial was over.
More annoying though is the way the news app constantly tries to get you to subscribe to news+. It’s very spammy and I expect better from Apple

I've never received a single request to subscribe.

Every month I pay 4.99 for Apple News and by the next month I forget I'm paying until the receipt comes.

Cool story.

You can see I’m not in the News+ section and almost everything requires it.

I think these all get added in the iTunes on a connected IOS device, mine just spawned the apple news subscription page of the apple news app. I had to copy and past the code (from the Best Buy email) but then it attached to my iTunes subscription account .. even though technically the iTunes and app Store and Best Buy email addresses are different. It now shows up in my subscriptions as expires 10/15/20
Thank you, couldn’t figure this out!

I missed out on the free 3 months over Thanks Giving so will definitely take up this offer and try it out. In my view most publications already have a paywall so i look forward to see how much content is included in News+.
At least most interesting and serious newspapers have a paywall, NY Times, WSJ, Barrons, Washington Post etc etc.

you have to purchase from a select list of items. Its the same deal every Apple retailer offers with Apple Music for 3 months free with a purchase
I didn’t have to purchase anything else. Just put the News+ for free in my cart and checked out. Actually did it twice with 2 accounts.

Agreed, but excepted from modern day Apple tho

I do enjoy the iOS 14 widget and the relevant alerts - thank you for the code, I will see how this works out in the next few months!!
