What bugs me about Apple pay still is that some terminals make you enter a pin and some make you sign. Isn't that the point of my finger print...

I'm guessing you're using a debit card in Apple Pay? The store is making you enter a PIN anyway because it saves them money.

Oh my goodness! I can't believe how much people actually care about Android/Apple/NFC Pay. Are you really that lazy that you can't slap a few bills down or grab your wallet from your back pocket or purse. It also begs the question, are you sooo attached to your stupid cell phone that you have to incorporate it into every part of your life? ITS A CELL PHONE!!!
People need to go watch Wall-E and look at how fat/lazy people are in that movie because that's the society we are moving towards.
Just remember, if power/networks go out and you can't buy anything, I will still be fine because I have cold hard CASH!

I'm not above swiping a card but tapping the Apple Watch is more convenient than pulling out a wallet.

I noticed that my local Publix grocery store (also a member of the MCX) recently swapped out their old POS terminals for an Ingenico model that appears to support the EMV chip and presumably supports NFC, as well. I hope they don't disable NFC permanently although it doesn't appear to be turned on yet. Hopefully the exclusivity agreement between Publix and MCX is expiring soon, as well.

I cannot believe how lazy people are!
The use of cash is just lazy. I mean, when I grow too many vegetables in the garden, and I load up the cart to bring them to the market, where I trade them with my local neighbors for their milk, or if I have a good harvest, a cow, which I then use that cow for the milk, and I make cheese, which has a long shelf life, and I can trade that for lumber for my cart. Since my efficiency is increased through the use of a cart, I can gain more things around the house (which I cut down the trees myself, then took to the lumber mill, and traded some of the veggies and cheese for to have the man, who lives by a river and has a sawmill cut them into lumber for use in building the house), I barter those things to buy an iPhone, and go to the big cities, where they have those message centers where I can keep up on all of the news.

Using cash is truly the lazy solution.

That isn't the problem. If they disable the EMV acceptance on their terminals, they're liable for fraud committed at their stores.

You solely use cash. You're an idiot.

A debit card is better than cash, because if you lose your debit card, you can have that replaced, while the cash cannot be replaced-- once it's gone, it's gone.

A credit card offers you purchasing power, extended warranties that are doubled up to a year, transaction disputing, rewards points, and it's not your money that's gone if someone uses your card or skims that stripe on the back.

Yes! Finally! I know there's a lot of hate for Best Buy, but I always save a bunch of money there.

This, combined with the Discover 10% cashback, and then combined with Best Buy's reward points program, will save me a TON of cash this holiday!
To save a TON of cash you're going to have to spend a hundred tons of cash to start with.

An Example with BestBuy rewards, I'm Elite Plus, spent over $9,000 this year so far that gives me just over $200 in BestBuy rewards.
Another little thing BestBuy changed recently, they reset your status at the beginning of the year, at least they did this year so you don't begin the year with Elite Plus which means you don't begin the year getting 1.25 points per dollar until you spend over $3,500.
Prior to this year, let's say you spent $7,000 then your elite plus status would extend for 2 years, 10,500 you'd be elite plus for 3 years and so on. If you spent $3,500 it meant you were entitled to a year of Elite Plus.
Not anymore. I spent $15,000+ last year with BB and I started this year with the same member status as a new person walking in the door for the 1st time.

BestBuy has a rewards program, it is definitely not a loyalty program.

Elite Plus status = approx 2.225% reward.

If you spend less than $1,500 a year you get 1 point per dollar spent
$1,500 - $3,500 you get 1.1 points per dollar spent
over $3,500 is 1.25 points per dollar.

It is rolling out to all stores now. It actually started back at the end of August.

It will complete the rollout on September 28th.

The store in the video is Roseville, CA and they have had it since 9/2

Source: I work for Best Buy.
You are correct! When is the official rollout supposed to be? When will EMV contactless be enabled?

Funny how people manage to whine about even this.
It's not so much about laziness as it is convenience. If I can leave my wallet at home, that's one less thing to worry about.

And we all wanna live as convenient as possible, that's human nature.

Why not? Don't they take Discover via ApplePay as well? And it's apparently 22% back with the doubling.
HAH sorry I was only thinking about myself and how there are no Apple Stores nearby and then confused myself with another thread that was talking about this yesterday. My bad. Yeah Apple would take Apple Pay and therefore get a discount. I'm not thinking.

They have iTunes gift cards on sale fairly often. If I can get a $100 iTunes card for $85, I don't care where it's from. But other than that, I don't really shop at Best Buy since switching over to digital for movies, tv shows, and music.

Good point, they always have them on sale on Black Friday weekend.....I know what I'll be buying with my new Discover Card and ApplePay that weekend!

It would be nice to know how a given store actually "supports" Apple Pay. The handful of places I've tried it, it was no different from using a credit card, except without physically sliding the card thru the slot. Never mind the fingerprint on my phone actually proving that I was the account owner: I had to pretend to scribble my name on their terminal where no one would ever check it. That's no improvement in convenience.

Looks like this guy has to enter his pin to complete the transaction. Wasn't paying with Apple Pay supposed to work without entering a pin, as you use your fingerprint for security reasons? Or is this jus something that's true for Best Buy?

In the UK I went to use Apple Pay via my mobile at Greggs. After asking me for the £5.33 I offered up my mobile. She looked at me as though I was crazy, uttering the words "err, that's a mobile phone sir".

It would have been quicker and a whole heap less embarrassing if I had just presented my card. Great technology, but clearly a long way from being commonplace.

Sometimes you can find better deals on Blu-rays there than Amazon.

They will also price match Amazon. And you get reward points which get you certificates for money off future purchases.

They have whittled back their movie and music sections quite a bit, but they usually have most of the bigger new releases when they come out, and CDs are usually $9.99 that first week. Don't know if that has been carrying over now that new music is released on Fridays (ugh).

They will also put back episodes or movies on sale when they release a new movie. This week you can get all the Fast & Furious steelbooks for $7.99.

Sometimes I just want a movie or CD and don't want to spend extra on shipping or spend $35 on Amazon to get free shipping. I have no interest in prime.

We also bought a stand up freezer from there and the process was very smooth. I also bought a FitBit One there that quit working after about a year, they exchanged it no questions asked (I had purchased the extra warranty).

That does sound like it would take a lot to earn a lot, but my spending habits there are a bit different.

Most of my purchases are video games. For just preordering select games (usually the triple A titles) I automatically get a $10 reward certificate. I also get double points. Then, since I'm a part of the Gamers Unlocked thing ($30 for 2 years) I get 20% off any and all new games, plus my points get doubled a second time. I also get 3x points on major appliances.

You just have to work a bit and find the deals and offers to really take advantage of it. I too am a part of Elite, and it is kinda crappy considering how much you have to spend to get in. But, I already have $35 in reward certificates, just by purchasing 3 video games (which I got at 20% off). If you're a gamer, that's a steal!

I wouldn't go that far. There are advantages to using cash, such as the feeling you get when you spend it, knowing that something is leaving your hands. I agree with your debit card benefits, but the tangible loss of paying for something is real, and goes to the psychology of purchasing.

Also, when traveling in Canada, my debit card issuer (they just got Apple Pay 2 days ago) told us that we had to forgo all of the protections that we had (that you mention) to use it there (no chip on card), and Mrs. thequik and I decided that $200 CDN risk was better than forgoing all the benefits that you mention.

There's a reason people say, "Cash is king"

I'm hoping for my Driver's License to be in my iPhone Wallet, but I think there are a ton of issues with that.

OK, after reading that, maybe not...

I don't think this is completely correct. Once you reach Elite Plus status, you should get the bonus points through the next year. At least that has always been the case with me. I am Elite Plus again this year, so it is valid until February of 2017. I will need to spend the required amount to maintain Elite in 2016.

From their website:
Your status as a My Best Buy Elite or Elite Plus member will begin 15–20 days after purchase date, will continue through the end of the following calendar year, and will end on the last day of the following February.

Apple Pay is great and I use it everywhere it's available. However I think the biggest stumbling block will continue to be the non-chain stores. Will my vet use it? What about the local florist when I screw up and get flowers for the wife (which isn't common)? Once they start implementing it, then it will really be ready for primetime.

I submit that it's ready for prime time now. Prime time seems to be a little behind... ;)
