That is insane. It makes me wonder how much extra did I pay for items have purchased there in the past. After reading this and seeing that they have no valid reasoning, I am finished with Best Buy.

I hate Best Buy. I went there yesterday to buy a printer and couldn’t believe I was there. I asked about their restocking fees. Surprised that they still have it.

Yet one more, in along list of reasons that I never do business with Best Buy. As a former employee I can tell you that they are unscrupulous and will do anything to screw customers. As long as there is ANYONE else to buy from I suggest avoiding them. You'll never miss the experience.

Ironic considering that Best Buy was on its way out when Apple helped save the company. True story. Some balls they have to price gauge customers on Apple products now.

Actually Best Buy has a good point. Apple verifies your Verizon account and if you are on a business account you cannot get the phone. Best Buy doesn't. That is why you could order from Best Buy but not from Apple in this situation. Also, the Nov 3 date was available still after 20 mins on Best Buy.

In a statement issued to MacRumors, Best Buy said its prices reflect a customer's ability to "get a phone the way they want."

"Our prices reflect the fact that no matter a customer's desired plan or carrier, or whether a customer is on a business or personal plan, they are able to get a phone the way they want at Best Buy. "

Yet they don't offer the T-Mobile phones or SIM-Free iPhone 8. So for $100 more I wouldn't be able to get the phone I ordered direct from Apple. But I bet if they have iPhone X stock they will sell all they've got at the $100 premium.

My worst experience EVER pre-ordering an iPhone was with Best Buy.

Charged the full amount to my credit card and went to pick it up after work, only to find they sold it (and everyone else’s pre-orders) to walk-in customers.

Best Buy is the worst. Never again.

I like Best Buy overall and actually had great experience with them over the past couple of years. In fact, they have become my go to store for many things including some Apple products because they are close by and always have things in stock.

The only thing I absolutely hated about Best Buy before is the way they treat customers on their way out of the store. They assume you are stealing from them. One day I kind of said that to the guy. He said it was to make sure the product that I paid for is the right one because of so many different models and they wanted to make sure I was good to go... I must have looked at him like he was crazy and I said, wow... that's how they want you to explain that, huh?

They got better with it and the service on the floor got a lot better as well. Now I almost exclusively order online and pick up in store because they don't bother you on the way out. The pick up desk is near the exist. They can see you picking up items, I think. Or maybe they softened up the policy a bit. But that was always the most annoying thing...

very very stupid move BB! I buy from there sometimes just to keep them going, but this is an own goal for the opposition...ie online and carriers. So short sighted..

Apple handles Verizon business accounts, but you have to speak with a Business Specialist at the Apple Store. Perhaps your Apple Store doesn’t have a Business Team.

Best Buy has done this for ages with full cost phones. I can't believe Apple\Samsung allow them to do this. Seems it would be a tarnish on the brand to charge more than the manufacturer's advertised price. Best Buy is all about their used-car salesman tactics. I walk into a store and I'm attacked by the DirecTV salesman to sell me satellite, then I walk to the computer section and I'm bombarded by the Comcast duo to sell me comcast internet service. Then head back to the TV section to find a cable and the Samsung guy grabs me on the way to tell me about his new watches he sells. So I think I can sneak to the register along the far side of the store then the Solar America guy comes up to me while I'm in line to check out to ask me about converting my home to solar. Finally done with all of them and have to click NO NO NO through 5 screens on the register that no I don't want their rewards, no I don't want their email list, no I don't want their credit card, no i don't want the extended service plan on my HDMI cable, and no I don't want a free geek squad "virus checkup" to be scheduled. This is why retail is failing.

Nothing new here. They do this with every iPhone launch.

Glad that Mac Rumors called them out on it this time though :D
Indeed. They marked the SE up $50 when it first launched and was still hard to find. I got all the way to taking out my credit card before they mentioned the price (which I had just assumed was regular retail). I walked out and got it from Apple a few days later.

And as a Minnesota guy, with a history of working with Best Buy, this makes me sad. They really need to differentiate themselves from Amazon and other competitors, Sadly this is not the way to do it.

Leadership of that (once great) company is absolutely lost. Amazing how often I drive passed their world headquarters (part of my commute) shaking my head at what they are doing in their market.

Best Buy is notorious for over-selling on pre-orders. They've done it with numerous Apple products in recent years... you get excited that you'll get it release day then you get an email two days before saying they're sorry but there's been a delay with their deliveries and it'll be an extra week or two... and you wait... and wait...

No specialist available if you want to order at 3am. So moot point. Best Buy is probably the only way to go.

Best Buy thinks they can get away with this? Not too long ago they were in financial trouble, then they started price matching and turning it around. Stupid move BB.
No thinking about it. They do get away with it and have in the past and will this time too probably very easy this time.
That $100 is nothing to those who will have to have it at all cost on release day and will beat the ebay and craiglist prices by $500-1000 LOL

I started to try and preorder last night but decided I'm going to wait for reviews this time around. May try to pick one up in Dec at a store if they're some in stock.
