Now I know why resale prices are so bad.
Yep Best Buy is dumping them on the market and that kills the resale market. It'll be depressed for weeks maybe months. It is possible that Apple is feeding them their inventory, letting them do the dirty work.

My 38mm SS watch came in today and its a way nicer than the sport model, even the box it came in was way nicer!
It is nice..Apple wants you to feel the hundreds of dollars extra were well spent

There was a 38mm silver aluminum/white band in stock at a local store, ordered for in store pickup and got an email 4 hours later saying they can't find it. Now no one in stock anywhere :/

New on Best Buy's website this morning: $449 for Gen 1, 38mm SS link bracelet. That's $500 off.

The strange thing is, I don't think Best Buy sold any link bracelet models before today? I don't remember seeing any on their website.

I was just coming here to post this! Since that is the price of the link bracelet, it's like getting it for free. Couldn't someone buy it and sell the bracelet, getting the SS for free?

Am I missing something?

You would have to find someone willing to pay you $449 for the link bracelet of course and then you would still have to get a band for the watch. Go for it!
At this point BestBuy is selling off everything that they have not been able to sell at Apple's prices.
This means some great bargains but don't think those are real values - just some inflated prices finding their real market value. You may find it difficult to resell used like new as being worth their inflated MSRP.

Why does it say "smooth Grenada leather band" Yea that's probably a typo.
Hadn't noticed that. Funny. Yeah, probably a typo?

Yeah, I don't think you'd be able to sell the bracelet separately for anything like full retail price. Especially since these clearance deals imply the high-end models were way overpriced to begin with.

However.... As another poster pointed out... If you were planning to buy a 38mm SS series 2 watch complete with a link bracelet anyway, then this might be worth considering? Just buy this old watch AND a series 2 38mm SS with a cheap sport band and you can mix and match. You'd then have the old 38mm SS watch body as a spare for, essentially, the price of a sport band (which you probably would've bought later anyway)

Thank you both for the feedback.

No, I didn't necessarily expect anyone to pay full price for the link bracelet alone. But I know they go for a high premium online, and it could go along way toward paying off the cost of the SS. I have several bands from a Sport I've had since December. Now, with the massive price drop, I'm taking this opportunity to upgrade to a stainless. I'm picking up a 38mm SS today I ordered a couple of days ago. If I decided to go for this other model, I'd have to cancel/return that one and wait a few more days. (I've decided to wait on Series 2.)

To be fair, a small part of me would like to own an original link band. I have a knockoff, but from what I've read, the two are scarcely comparable. Then again, I'd like a lot of things--it doesn't necessarily mean I'll get them.

It's something to think about further. Thanks again; honestly, I was worried I was reading something wrong!

Purchased an open box (new) 38mm SS with black sport band for $216. Comically cheap. I already have the exact same model, but figure a new battery, shiny shell, and another year of warranty are worth it.

Not sure about cheap per sè, but Best Buy have an Apple Watch 42mm Stainless Steel, Space Black, with Milanese Loop for $549

That's exactly what I paid for mine in a Best Buy "weekend sale" three or four months ago. The sale was, I think, only a few months after the release of the SB Milanese.

So I haven't lost any money yet (haha), but I guess it's going to happen soon. Only a matter of time before BB knock off another $100! :(

Anyway, can't complain, I absolutely love the SB. Hope other folks get to enjoy one too.
