Are you sure that it wssn't just their "work sheet" where they had listed all the options you could get (set up, service coverage, etc.)?

Attached to the "ticket" we all received in line yesterday was a "work sheet" showing what options, if any, we elected.

Yea, I should explain to the forum, I just wanted the wi-fi version. So I waited and the guy came up to me and asked if I was the person who wanted the 64GB iPad and said yes. He had a sheet of paper that had a bunch of questions that he requested I fill with my name and address, phone number and below that he said to fill out the answers to the questions. I said no thanks. He told me unfortunately they can't sell the ipad unless the sheet is filled out.

I'll try again tomorrow and if they try it again, I will contact corporate.

I do see that Best Buy online store now has set-up where you can purchase the iPad online and pick-up from the store. I might do that one also since I technically have already made the purchase. Unless of course before I hit check out Best Buy's online store pops up a questionnaire!! :D

Oh, i would have fun with this. (watch wife leave the immediate area).

There is no way in HELL I would have left the store without that Ipad. Sure, start your questionnaire.

First question? Name, sure.
Next question - answer, gee, I dunno
next question, answer, gee, I dunno.
etc
etc
etc

Then if the idiot is stuck following some silly sales protocol, ask for a supervisor, then a manager, then ask them to call corporate. I am real sure you would have you ipad with the first escalation though.

You make me want to go to that store and play around with them. Really!

honolulu, hi

yes, no, maybe, whatever. just fill it out! lol. if they give you grief, call over a manager, because there is no law that i know of that enables a company to withhold selling you a product until you "honestly" fill out a questionnaire.

EDIT: hahaha! nostresshere and i had the same idea. great minds think alike :)

Just scribble nonsense on each question. When they say they can't read it, tell them to try harder. And tell them you're offended.

Leave with your iPad and smile.

Western Digital (and other companies) does something like this whenever you want to register an external hard drive on their website.

While they make it "mandatory" to go through the questionnaire, I wonder why they don't realize how many bogus answers they get because people like me will just fill in anything (no matter how ridiculous) to get through it...

That's a first. The only time Best Buy ever told me to fill out a questionnaire was when I was trying to buy a laptop. Except, it wasn't a piece of paper, it was the guy that needed to get the laptop for me asking me all this ****ing questions for no reason.

It's great that they're trying to help you make a good purchase (while also adding some unnecessary ****), but I'm not your average person. ;)

If I were you, I'd definitely answer with bogus answers like some other members mentioned. Haha

Buy online and choose instore pickup. If asked to fill out questions at store ask nicely for a manager and explain you simply to make your purchase and leave without filling out any questions. Simple as that.

I wouldn't have that much of a problem with that - it only takes a few seconds to fill out some random boxes on a form, maybe longer if you want them to be really stupid and clash.

I must admit whenever I have to install OSX I used to try a different option than the previous time, but now I just stick to retired homemaker with 500+ staff in the company.

If anyone ever makes it a requirement for me to fill out an unnecessary form to do something I want to do I always try to make the effort to make the results I give damage their overall results as much as is possible.

It's ironic that you were told you couldn't buy it without filling out a questionnaire...Last Summer when I went to Best Buy to purchase a Macbook Air during the Back to School promotion, I didn't have to fill anything out, show any school ID or anything, to get the discount and the gift card.

You'd think if they're going to have you fill something out, it would be during something like a promotion where they are giving you something for free.

It's not a questionnaire. it just asked for your name and address because they're trying to up sell you into a warranty. They did it at my store, I put a fake name and en bought an iPad.

Websites do this all the time, it's not a big deal and definitely isn't worth whining about.

I got mine from bestbuy without any questionare type thing. I will say, for anyone who is going to buy one, if you get it from bestbuy, and you get the 4G one, and the offer to activate it for you for free, by all that is good and holy, say NO! I said yes because I had no idea what they were asking, and got stuck calling verizon for 2 hours to get out of a recurring plan that, I guess, they set me up on. I feel like US banks are more honest than people who sell mobile devices and services... =/

I had to buy a second one today for my wife. They didn't ask a single question, but I do have Best Buy rewards card and my name and address are on that, but not my SSN

I told them I would be activating at home and the salesperson just said, "OK" and I was on my way...but then again, I already knew what I was doing (this was my third iPad).

For the OP, though, if s/he is referring to them just asking for your name, etc., THAT, in my humble opinion, is not a questionnaire.

I would have just given them some bogus answers if I were so inclined. No big deal.

...but then again, I also don't mind showing my driver's license when making a credit card transaction at certain Best Buys. It's just not that big of a deal to me.

So when they insist, fill it out with bogus data.... That's what I'd do, throw a wrench in the works. :D

I have a degree in marketing.

I wish everybody would just give them bogus information. Don't belittle and insult your customers.

No way I would have walked out of that store without an iPad and my tail between my legs.

I had one when I showed up before it opened. Just asked me if thi was my first tablet and what I was gonna use it for. Then they tried to sell me extra stuff like their extended warranty, accessories, etc. I don't think it was required but since it was still 30 minutes til open, I filled it out

You shouldn't hold the sales associate accountable at all what so ever. Be nice you have no idea what kind of jerks people in retail have to deal with. It's insane they are following what they were told to do to keep there job. Instead be nice to the cashier and kindly take it up with the manager. Kindness goes a long way.

My local Best Buy asked me to fill out some 'information sheet' when I went to buy my 2 iPad 1's and iPad 2, on release days for both. When I asked why, I was told "we need this information to keep track of the purchase so you don't resell the unit". Yeah, right. I looked at the form they handed out to me and it appeared to be some Geek Squad marketing form asking for name, address, phone number, email, etc. The first time I asked the salesperson for his name and address and told him I was putting HIS personal information on the form. The second time it happened (for the iPad 2) I simply refused to fill out the form and they didn't put up a fight. When I bought my iPad yesterday, I didn't see those forms anywhere and they weren't asking anyone to fill anything out.

The bottom line is, you have no obligation to release your personal information to buy an iPad or anything else not requiring a subscription or activation. Nor are you obligated to show your receipt at the door, submit to a search, etc. when you leave.
