You shouldn't hold the sales associate accountable at all what so ever. Be nice you have no idea what kind of jerks people in retail have to deal with. It's insane they are following what they were told to do to keep there job. Instead be nice to the cashier and kindly take it up with the manager. Kindness goes a long way.

I agree. Felt bad for the girl who was asking me and who kept apologizing since I knew what I wanted. Told her its okay... do what you have to do because I'm sure you are being "forced" to do it

I went into Best Buy expecting a quick in and out purchase. When I asked the sales associate what flavors they had in stock, and my interest in 4G, he immediately went into sales mode trying to convince me to buy a personal hotspot and cancel my Time Warner cable internet. It was surreal. I said 'Dude, I know what I want, do you have it in stock?' It was the last thing I expected to be talking about with my iPad purchase.

I had a similar thing happen this morning getting the 16GB, except it was with their extended warranty.

Yep, people don't care or realize that they're just doing their jobs. I worked as a cashier once and had to ask for people's zip codes before I rang up orders and some people are so freaking insulted by that. It's not my fault, just doing my job like you do yours.

I love doing that kind of stuff. I make up the most outrageous info I can think of. I especially like using data in different formats so if it even gets in their database it will return funky data. The only thing I'm really careful about is making up phone numbers. I leave out one digit. Don't want some poor soul to get calls because I accidentally picked their number.

I went into a NC KMart to purchase a wagon for my grandson and at checkout as I went to slide my debit card....up pops a survey. I literally could not slide my card until the survey of three questions (about the store and such) was answered. I wasn't happy and I will not shop there again, wouldn't have completed this purchase but grandson was with me and of course was looking forward to the wagon! The cashier said they couldn't over ride this....unbelievable!!

That is just plain dumb. How could BB not sell you an iPad at all? If i were you, i'd demand for the manager or supervisor and complain about it. And you shouldn't try it one more time before contacting corporate, just do it right away. They should make up for your loss of time travelling back and forth and the waste of time trying to buy the iPad.

Hey they might even give you a gift card or some special discount on the iPad.

It sounds like launch day protocol. They wanted to collect as much info as possible to later contact you offering the extended warranty etc. I'd imagine on launch days people just go in, buy the item and leave without really thinking about much beyond getting the box they came in for--and it's likely so busy that the salespeople don't have time to discuss all that stuff with you like they normally would.

All that said, it's ridiculous to say it's required. There's no way in hell that's the real policy. It sounds like some manager is trying to keep a sales metric high and assumed that there'd be plenty of people in line to buy the iPad you got turned away from.

I'd be upset about it too. It just isn't right. You should contact Apple about it though, in addition to BB corporate. Apple will rain holy terror down on that store for BS like that.

They tried the samething with tme...But I said looked at the paper and was like NO ...Just the iPad and that guy never came back to me :)

My neighbor is a BB Mgr and I spoke with him today regarding this. There is NO way BB can force you to fill ANY questionnaire, and if there is any it's usually for marketing and completely voluntary.

The only person who can [ and never does ] make a certain questionnaire/survey mandatory is the Regional Manager.

He said call corporate if the store mgr gives you a hard time and express your frustration! Corporate will rip him/her a new one!!

Just return from my local Best Buy without an iPad. They had some in stock but wouldn't sell it to me without me filling out a questionnaire. Totally disappointed I waited years to buy my first "good" iPad and I can wait till those idiots at Best Buy stop with the questionnaires.

I don't have to fill out something at the Apple store or neither online when Best Buy decides to sell the new iPad on their website. I am in no rush but I just wanted to inform those about Best Buy sales tactics.

For the curious this was the Honolulu Best Buy store.

Did you ask them just why you had to fill out a form and what it was to be used for, or was the first thing you thought of doing to complain here?

Interesting to see some of the responses here. Am I the only one who actually smiles and greets the sales people before they even greet me, or wish them a good day when leaving, even if I did not buy anything? :)

I do...I am unfailingly polite to the salespeople. I KNOW how hard their job is...I worked retail when I was in college.

The Best Buy salespeople (both at the first store I tried (which didn't have the 64GB ATT Black) and the second store (where I was successful)) were awesome.

Ignorant comment to make. There are people who are that way and your comment is just wrong.

Lol took longer than expected to offend someone.

Just helping the OP beat the idiotic Best Buy practice. In no way am I mocking those with disabilities. No need to be ultra sensitive.
