^^^ Yes, you don't have a 'full' license until you're 18.

For me, I have a curfew of midnight - 4 AM. Can't drive during that time.

And I can only carry one non-relative passenger (No matter their age) for the first year of holding my license.

Also,
This is true, with written parental consent if i'm not mistaken.

Good to know here in Europe we only let older people drive a real car, and not 16 year olds.

It is with parental consent. When "I" got my license, it was given to my parents. They then had to give it to me. The DMV/driving instructor would not under any circumstances give a license to a minor.

Technically, parental consent isn't required, but you're probably not going to learn how to drive and pass the driving test to get your license without either your parents teaching you how to drive or paying for lessons.

I'm 17 and I'm learning to drive soon. I'll be paying for my own lessons.

You can get a provisional at 17 in the UK, which means you can drive if you have someone with a few years' driving experience in the car with you. This is so you can practise before you get a full license.

BTW, not all younger drivers are hooligans. Sure, some are irresponsible as hell and shouldn't be allowed to drive, but many are the opposite.

Besides, even with the driving age at 18, there are still irresponsible young drivers on the road.

Oh lawd! No girl is going date you if you drive a '86 Camaro. Why? It isn't a good student car at all. It isn't fast (it does the quarter mile in 16 seconds LOL), it doesn't handle well, you can't put anything in it and if it snows you WILL end up upside down and on fire.

Now I like old Camaro's a lot, but not for their stock iterations, for their potential as a second car. As a student car it won't cut it, trust me. I had a hilariously impractical car (an M3) at first. I got it because I was a young thunder cat who wanted a badass fast car. I drove it all summer like a boss, but as soon as school started again I was like "**** this noise" and took a beat up old Yukon everywhere because unlike the sports car, I could take it places, put people in it and not have to explain to anyone why when it snowed I couldn't hang out anymore.

the only girl i need to pick up right now is my girldfriend and she loves camaros because her dad has one and plus every girl i asked said it was a sexy car. the main reasons i want it is because it isnt that powerful and i can learn how to control it before i get a real sports car or a real muscle car and like i said before it barely snows in virginia and if it does ill just takee one of our other cars

Driving stupidity knows no age. There are good 16 year old drivers, and there are 50 year old drivers who shouldn't be allowed anywhere near a car. For every 16 year old driver who nearly hits me, there's 2 soccer moms driving their giant SUV typing out a text message with one hand while putting make up on with the other who nearly hit me.

Part of the problem with some 16 year old drivers may be maturity, but I think a lot of the problem is just lack of experience. You can make the driving age 18 or even 20, but then they'll still have the same lack of experience that a 16 year old has when they first get their license.

Couldn't agree more with this.

Here you can drive a "mini car" at 16 but it's a young driver's license, the driver's license you can only get starting at 18.

responsible driving has absolute no relaition to age , but often a relation to the vehicle driven , just watch your mirrors next time someone tries with flashing lights to nearly push you off the road , because he thinks speed limits and other stupid things someone has written down in the highway code only to restrain his freedom

"start up your engine ..but switch off your brain first " seems to be the new addition to the highway code

I disagree. Age has many things to do with driving style. Younger people tend to be much more aggressive in general on the road. Of course not absolutely everybody and there are exceptions either way. I've seen older people on expensive sports cars that drove relatively slowly and obeyed traffic laws quite well.

Regarding highway etiquette - it also depends. If you're driving 60 in the left lane where speed limit is 65 and people usually go around 80, yes you will get flashed and asked to get the hell out of way. Imho - well deserved. Always go with the flow, if everyone is going fast you should either be going fast with them or go to a slower lane that can accommodate your speed rate.

I drive a small sports car but when i see somebody speeding up behind me I tend to get out of their way even before they have a chance to flash. But I expect the same from other drivers as well. Problem is lots of times people just don't get it that they're holding up the line and annoy other drivers.

From the perspective of a parent of a 16-year-old driver, I'd say that safety and reliability are the most important criteria, followed by the cost of ownership (gas mileage, repair expenses, insurance). I also understand that coolness is important. Fortunately, it's possible to find cars that achieve an acceptable balance of all these factors.

i think reliability is the most important factor when buying a used car otherwise you could as well safe the money and use public transport
and to get a reliable car get one with the least amount of electronic helpers ,get a volkswagen beetle (the original) at least you can fix most things by yourself on the roadside
hmm beetle not fast enough  that can be rectified , a type 4 engine big twin crabs will sort it
and it helps to get a nice sound out of the beetle to clear the road of pedestrians as a added safety feature ;)

You hit the nail on the head right here. Soccer moms are the worst. :p

I agree with the experience too. I got my license at 16 1/2 and by 17 I thought I was a great driver. Looking back 7 years later I can tell you now that it took at least 5 years to fully get comfortable behind the wheel, and I know I am still getting better. It's all about the experience factor, especially in unfavorable driving conditions.

You shouldn't EVER be driving in the far left lane. That lane is for PASSING, not driving. The person doing 60 in the left lane shouldn't be driving in that lane at all, unless they are passing someone in the middle/right lane going slower than them. And the people going 80 in a 65 should **** off and drive the speed limit. It's there for a reason. People who speed and tailgate me when I am doing the speed limit really piss me off. If I can't see your license plate, I'm probably going to slow down even more. I was driving with a friend once and we got rear ended by some dumb bitch who was drunk and following way to close. After that I don't tolerate people tailgating me.. it's just not safe, so I'll slow down to a safer speed. You aren't getting there any faster by tailgating me, so stop doing it and drive safe so we don't get killed.

hope someone takes it as good advice , i am driving lots of miles every day as part of one of my part time jobs delivering blood and organs across the UK , and i often see people driving around with no respect for other road users , and in my experience there is no such thing as age relation , seen 18 year old in tuned hatchbacks as well as middle aged man in flashy sportscars as well as pensioners in Mercs tailgating, undertaking .....and all fines in the world dont help the only aproach that will hurt is a lifetime ban from driving and crushing their cars
and as i do need my license ,i try to strictly follow the highway code ..never even got a point in almost 30 years driving on public roads, not even a parking ticket

First accident at 17 because I assumed the other person would obey the stop sign. Totally avoidable.

First accident 3 months shy of being 17 because I assumed the person in front of me wouldn't reverse at a red light. Totally avoidable if I knew that they'd be stupid enough to back up, then I would have payed more attention and reversed. But I saw her too late.

Haha, you guys got me beat, but my first accident at 16 when someone rear ended me at a stop after I'd been stopped there for a whole minute -I should have known better than to stop a red light.

Oh no, mine was the same.

I pulled up to a red light, car in front of me, also at a red light.

Wait a bit (minute or so), she starts backing up. I honk

Hear bang.

Go WTF.

She backed up into me.

Call police.

First accident.. about 17 I think and it was raining. Slammed into the back of a new Jaguar with my truck. The lady that got out and I did not speak the same languages. Luckily we just copied insurance info without a word spoken and she seemed to know what sorry meant.
