I'm looking to use a clear case for the first time. I want something that is slim as possible but still provides decent protection and isn't too slippery. Any suggestions?

With my 6, had a Luvvitt clear. Nice case with a decent lip to protect the screen. But as earlier poster commented re: Spigen case, mine yellowed where the CPU was. Switched to a frosted transparent black (really more smoke colored) Luvvitt. Did not yellow, but lip over screen got in the way when having to go to screen edges.

Current 8, got a really thin Cellio case from Fry's. Had bought a slim Spigen on Amazon: better protection, but bumpers were distracting (see Ralfi post above).

Upside these days, cases have come down in price vs old school iPhones: relatively inexpensive to try different cases and find one that is just right.

Spigen Liquid Crystal FTW

That’s the one I just ordered
With those soft cases, do the edges tend to become loose over time? I ask because i've always had hard (Polycarbonate) cases on my phones. Their rigidness gives the phone better protection imo.

The other reason i'm put off by soft cases is i've seen some atrocious quality ones that bubbled & were so loose they made the phone more susceptible to droppages....but this was years ago & i'm sure they've gotten better since then.

PC cases still my preference but i'd be willing to try the soft ones if their sides didn't flex so much.

None. All those clear cases are thick, gummy, plasticy, smell like rubber, and are scratch magnets. I get you want to feel like you fit in and feel cool that you have an iPhone, but trust me, no one is impressed by your disgusting gummy thick case.

This is just imo, but clear cases exaggerate the thickness difference between your phone & the case because you can actually see it. It's off-putting to me, but many seem to be able to ignore that & prefer the transparency. Each to their own.

The Spigen is not tight on the sides at all and it will yellow over time. But, at only $10, you can buy like 3 for the price of 1 Apple case and just rotate through them lol Your iPhone is secure, though. I’ve used them for years now since the 6.

These ESR Crystal Clear Slim cases are perfect if you like clear TPU cases.

They have the micro dots in the rear to prevent oil/water marks and have a variety of edge and camera cut out border colours, two of which match the Silver & Space Grey bands of the iPhone X. There is Silver, Space Grey, clear, Rose Gold and a Jelly Black (basically smoked).

I purchased the silver and space grey before deciding on which phone I wanted (got the Silver one in the end).

Also got a Spigen black Liquid Crystal but prefer the ESR as Spigen have added slits by the buttons which is just going to allow grit in to mark the band so won't use that. Also the ESR is a bit smaller.

But, I have ordered the Apple Leather Folio which will probs be my 'outside' protection.

I think you are probably thinking of the older Silicone cases which were useless. These are made of TPU material and are excellent and do not loosen at all. I've been using Spigen clear cases for all my past generation iPhones because I like to still be able to see the original intended design. I have had no problems at all with them. Highly recommend.
They only thing I am not fond of is bumper cases, I just like the thin clear cases.
EDIT: Also, I just checked the new case I ordered" iPhone X Case Liquid Crystal - Crystal Clear
057CS22118"
and it's only .005 mm thick. You can use the to compare to other cases.

I just received my Spigen Liquid Crystal today and there are no slits by the buttons. But I ordered the clear. Don't know about the black one. There are only opening where obviously needed such and the lightening port and speakers and such. The buttons are covered. My last year's Spigen for the 7 Plus also did not have any slits but then again it was the clear on and not black.

Yeah, the buttons are covered.....but there are slits either side of them. They're there on the clear too. Have another look.

I have the black and clear for my 7 Plus and they don't have the slits.

Edit: Here's unboxing of the clear in 4k at 2:12 you can see the slits above and below the power/Siri button and at 2:42 you can clearly see the slits either side of the volume buttons.

Damn. Thanks for this video. I’ll be returning the Spigen. Why would they do this? Does it look like dirt can get it in via the slits? This is like the Neo Hybrids that have two holes at the bottom of the back clear panel — why?

I suggest you stop getting cheap dollar store ebay cases. You don't seem very well versed in ALL clear cases.

Smell like rubber
