Need an extra battery for when I am out all day. Need to be able to charge mainly a Iphone 5, but also possibly a Iphone 5C. Like the look of the Anker Astro Mini but I am open to suggestions regarding one with and one without a Lightning charger. Any ideas about iPega http://www.amazon.co.uk/PG-IH139-50...qid=1390243763&sr=8-20&keywords=iPega+battery?

I recommend this one:
Anker® 2nd Gen Astro 6000mAh Portable Charger Backup External Battery Rapid-Recharge (2A Output) Shake-to-Wake Power Pack for iPhone 5S, 5C, 5, 4S, iPad Air, 5, 4, 3, 2, Retina iPad Mini 2, Samsung Galaxy S4, S3, Note 2, 3, Galaxy Tab, PS Vita, Gopro and more (Apple adapters - 30 pin and lightning, Samsung 30-pin adapter, not included)

Anker is reliable IMO.

Wow, that was a quick response :).
OK, why this one compared to Anker Astro (122 g) or Anker Astro Mini (45 g)? 272 g for the Anker 2nd Gen Astro is a bit much to carry around, or?
At the same time, how can these devices be charged? Is it only by connecting to a PC or can I charge them using my Lightning Cable and Apples wall plug?

The one I said has a 6,000mah battery inside. That can charge an iPhone 5/5s about 3 times. Which Anker astro(122g) are yo talking about? A link would be helpful. The astro mini is only 3,000mah which is great for 1 full charge and possibly a little more. If you carry the Anker astro 2nd gen 6,000mah around in a backpack, you won't notice it that much. Most battery packs, including the ones I said use a micro USB cable to charge. They come with one of those cables. The battery packs can charge at 1-2 amps, depending on which one you get. You can use a PC USB port but that will charge it very slowly and will take 20+ hours to charge about. I recommend getting a wall charger that has a 2 amp output. You can use apples wall charger that came with an iPhone which is 1 amp.

If I were you I would get this package:
Anker® 2nd Gen Astro 6000mAh Portable Charger Backup External Battery Rapid-Recharge (2A Output) Shake-to-Wake Power Pack for iPhone 5S, 5C, 5, 4S, iPad Air, 5, 4, 3, 2, Retina iPad Mini 2, Samsung Galaxy S4, S3, Note 2, 3, Galaxy Tab, PS Vita, Gopro and more (Apple adapters - 30 pin and lightning, Samsung 30-pin adapter, not included)

OK, the 2 I referred to before are the Anker Astro Mini and the Anker Astro 5600 mAh. A bit cheaper and a bit easier to carry in a pocket :).
And even if a 2 A charger is better I think I can manage to stick with using Apple's own wall charger to save buying even more equipment.

I do recommend the astro 5600mah one! Get that one:) You never know when you will need around 2 extra charges.

Just wanted to say, 6 months after I started the thread (so efficient :p ) I have finally ordered a battery. Bought the Anker Astro Mini in silver as it was small enough for what I wanted, and the capacity was large enough (only needed 0.5 charges and it charges my iPhone about 1.3 times).

All in all, a very good product for £12.99.

Best External Battery (iPhone 5)

In terms of quality in reliability, yes I think that is the best one.
Which battery pack did you get?

I am in a van a lot so being able to carry is not a big deal. I am trying to decide on anker 3. The one with 12,000 mah and the smart port. Or the anker 2 with 15,000 mah

I Just got the Anker 2nd Gen. Astro3 12000mAh External Battery. It's awesome and plenty powerful for iPhones and iPads. You shake it to see the charge and it charges quick. It has 3 USB inputs.

Well, after going back and forth about getting a better extended battery than my Solio bolt for a few weeks (or maybe even longer) I finally pulled the trigger last night. I got both an Anker 2nd Gen Astro 3 12000mAh and an Anker 2nd Gen Astro 6000mAh... using their valentines day promo I was able to get them both for about $63 shipped and they should arrive tomorrow.

I'm hoping the 6000mAh one is small enough that I can carry it around with me if I think I might need a quick charge and the 12000mAh one will be big enough to charge several devices if the family is out somewhere without power.

Amazon says they'll be delivered tomorrow, so I'll let you guys know what I think when they arrive.

Wow you saved some money there. With no sale you would have spent $80.
I think you made a great purchase.

Yeah, the valentines day promo is pretty good... http://www.ianker.com/ad/2014valentines/index.html

10% off of one product or 20% off of two or more. Unfortunately it doesn't cover the 40W 5 port charger (although maybe that's not so unfortunate because then I might be tempted to buy a 4th one) ;)

You and getting those wall chargers. You need a restriction on what you buy from Anker;)

So I got my batteries an hour or two ago and so far I'm pretty happy:) They are both a bit bigger and heavier than I might have hoped, but that's my own fault for not looking at the specs. Besides, they both pack a lot of power for their size, so I can't really complain.

The 12000mAh one came showing about 80% full and I was able to get my iphone from about 12% to 100% and my bluetooth headset charged and I plugged in my iPad mini for a few minutes and the battery is still showing about 60% full.

I love that the bigger one has a 4A output and three smart ports so I can charge two iPads at close to full power. That's pretty rare for a battery.

Any thoughts on this?

Thought I might get one considering how cheap they are

They allow returns so if it doesn't work I can send it back ... but are there any dangers in buying a cheap battery case?

I don't recommend it because:
-No brand
-No reviews to see if it is good or not
-Not even a real picture of it
-Not apple certified

This is the cheapest apple Certified battery pack I can find:
$30 which is very cheap for an apple certified battery case (read the reviews):
