First let me direct you to www.head-fi.org for your (maybe long) journey in finding the right headphones.

But I strongly recommend the following ones: SoundMAGIC PL11 (check on amazon)

They come with a huge verity of different tips, so you can try and see which ones suit you best, since a good fit is essential. And the sound is astounding for that price.

Good luck

Depends on what you want to spend. I dont like spending a lot because i use my music a lot on walks and some jogs and the jack on the headphones eventually messes up from moving around, getting pulled sometimes or knocked around.
I do not like the stock Apple earbuds. They suck. My stock Samsung Earbuds with my Vibrant sound good but i usually buy Skull Candy. Around $20-$40 is all i want to spend. Usually around $20-25 and alot of times you can get the Skull Candy's cheaper on eBay. I wont spend $100 on earbuds.

Problem is you cant test earbuds for sound. I do like how Dre's Beats headphones sound but they are expensive and would love to hear how the buds sound. Tried to go a bit cheaper with some JVC's but they suck an arent loud enough. I have some Phillips buds too...dont like the shape and how they fit. Generally dont like buds with a stem that comes down like this

I like this with no stem and these are the ones i use. These come with or without a built in mic.

Those Shure SE215 are nice but do you want to spend that much is the only question.

Does anyone have any experience with Beats by Dr Dre? They sounded amazing in the store and are supposed to have a mic built into some models. But I know real world is very different most of the time.

(they sounded REALLY good in the store)

They aren't very good...the Monster/"Dr Dre" headphones are junk. The store i work at sells them and people would break them (the solos) just by pulling a little too much on them while taking them off their head. We went through at around one pair a week....they would always break near the little metal part of the headband.

The solos are trash. The studios are actually a lot more solid, but you're paying a premium for the aesthetics, the audio performance is not on par with the price. Still good, comfortable headphones, just overpriced.

I`m using Sennheiser CX300 II. Sound quality (especially bass) is awesome, these in-ear earphones quite well isolate noise, and cost only 35 dollars.

If cost isn't an issue, i'd spring for a pair of JH Audio JH16's. www.jhaudio.com

Best IEM's you'll find imo. I have a set paired with an iMod (modified iPod) and a Headstage Arrow 12HE portable amp. Best sound I've been able to get out of a portable setup.

seriously, for headphones?

If your an audiophile, 1000+ is nothing. People often spend hundreds of thousands on equipment - speakers, amps, pre-amps, etc. Hell, there are even cables that cost $1000+

I travel for work, taking several flights per week. The money was well spent in preserving my sanity, or at least thats what I tell myself ;)

Honestly though, you can't find better sound reproduction out of an IEM than Jerry Harvey's current lineup. The bass reproduction is clearer and goes lower than any subwoofer setup i've had in a car before - of which i also spent hundreds of dollars on.

hey

hey so yea i was looking at both IEMS and headphones..

anyhow if you had to choose between Klipsch S4, and Shure SE215.

which one would pick???

I listen to all type of music, and those are the best earphones under 100 dollars.

I'd go the Shure route personally, mainly because they have always fit better in my ear-holes. You'd probably enjoy both pairs though.

I would also like to know this. I see a lot of people wearing them lately.

Klipsch s4i headphones with Comply TX-100 foam tips...FTW.
With the foam tips, bass is as punchy as my closed back headphones, and the isolation is amazing. No more turning them way up to drown out background noise. Having volume/skip control and mic on the cord is a real bonus.

I've found that Bose and Beats headphones are overpriced for what they offer. Many other choices that sound as good if not better for MUCH better prices.
I've YET to hear a pair of Skull Candy headphones that don't sound cheap.

ORPHEUS OR NOTHING!!

On a related note, these threads always crack me up. "I want tha best headphones eva for my iphone" is always followed by "those are too expensive, what about anything under $20? But remember, I WANT THA BEST EVAH"

you say you want the best, be prepared to pay for the best.

Etymotic Research ER6 Isolators are the best earphones (heck the best headphones) I've ever had. Once seated properly you will hear details in music on songs you know very well that you never heard before. Can't recommend them enough.

I personally use Shure E5Cs and UE10s. Sure, these are relatively expensive and in-ear designs but I feel that you get the best sound isolation using in-ear headphones. For the Shure E5Cs, I like the triple flange buds to ensure a triple seal on my ears. Funny thing is that they are essentially waterproof at that point so I can wear them in the rain. UE10s on the other hand are custom fits. While both are studio monitors, they are overkill for Apple gear. Until Apple starts support FLAC in iTunes, anything more than below headphones are just overkill. If you do use an FLAC player on the iPhone however, I would suggest the above 2 headphones or the modern day equivalents.

My recommendations for 320kbps MP3 sound via your iPhone is as follows:

Skullcandy 50/50 Mic'd USD$45 appx
These are excellent enough in-ear headphones that have an Apple 3 button remote and mic.

Skullcandy FMJ USD$70 appx
Almost the same as the 50/50 model. Sound quality should be about the same as the 50/50. They are slightly more flashy.

Apple in-ear headphones with remote and mic USD$50 appx
These are a lot like the Skullcandy set and have good enough audio quality for the Apple devices.

For over the ear headphones, I also have several suggestions

Skullcandy Skullcrushers USD$80 appx
These are some of the most comfortable heavy bass headphones for a decent price that will still play your iPhone tunes decently.

Skullcandy G.I.s USD$70 appx
These are also really comfortable and have decent enough sound for an iPhone.

iFrogz DJ Style USD$50 appx
These are some seriously fun cans and are great for casual listening. They look great and the sound quality may be slightly lower than the Skullcandy headphones. They are great for value and offer sound quality that's almost on par with the Skullcandy models I mentioned.

iFrogz Ronin and Mogul headsets are similar in price and style. Let's face it, if you have an iPhone, music matters to you but so does design.

then try the ER4S, they will blow your mind

Don't buy cheap headphones...
If you love music, buy The latest Bose in-ear headphones £79
All music types sound amazing. I'm into all kinds of music.. Heavy stuff like deftones to acoustic chill out - as I type this I've got Benjamin Francis Leftwich playing on my iPad 2, headphones on...chilling in bed. Wife's sleeping..and can't hear anything (cheap headphones are tinny and everyone can hear what your listening to...is what I'm getting at there)

Seriously, Bose headphones are the best. I sold my on-ear Bose noise cancelling headphones for the more discreet style...they're perfect.

Also, they come with a cool iPhone 4 sized zip case

Another selling point is the way the sit in your ear...you forget they're in. So comfy :D

Suppose everyone has their thoughts and opinions. IMO, all Bose products are overpriced crap. A co-worker had a pair of the in-ear headphones and they fell apart over the course of a few months. They also didn't sound all that great.. to me.

Personally, i'd spend a few extra dollars on a Shure or UE pair.

I'm using iBeats right now by Monster. Pretty good ear buds, not worth the $100 price tag though IMO
