    Hi Everyone.

I'm looking to get a MacBook Pro 15" for 4k video editing with Final Cut Pro.

I'm looking to spend the least amount of money but still be able to edit without issues. Storage isn't important for me as I'll be using external hard drives.

Should I get a 2015 or 2016 and with what specs? Is the 2015 a better deal?

Your advice and tips would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks!

If 4K 10bit editing is your thing, get a 2017 15". Otherwise the 2016 will be better, and the 2015 will be just as good.

The only time you'll notice any 'issue' is if you're sat on your 2015 one day, then move to a 2017 the next day. You'll likely see a marginal speed increase in render times etc., but as always these things just aren't noticeable in real life day to day use. 2015 lacks a dGPU unless you get a refurb, something to consider. Otherwise any to be honest, again you can get max specs and save a few seconds, but if money is a concern then get the base models as you simple will never notice it.

In 2013 I used a 13" MacBook Pro specially for vid editing with FCP. It wasn't 4k but I had no issues. Any of the late model 15" MacBook Pros should not have any problems handling doing what you want to do. Good luck with you plans!
