It was a nice addition, but in all fairness, he was a drill instructor playing a drill instructor, not a lot of great acting. But yes, his "performance" was a welcome touch.

True. But he actually studied acting. IMDB

Without his performance, Modine and D'Onofrio would've been as good. (Not that I'm taking away from their abilities). Hence, The Supporting Actor Role.

How can you argue with this:

NO kidding the drill instructor was awesome. Very realistic and a good satire on the military system.

Delicatessen & City of the Lost Children are also brilliant!
I watched City of Lost Children in a SciFi Literature class a number of years ago. At the end when the instructor asked us to discuss it, there was dead silence. No one knew where to begin! I am not sure I would call it "Best Movie Ever", but it is one worth seeing as it is unlike most films you will ever see.

A wise move. I was about to say What Is Your Major Malfuntion DigitalAx!! :D

I took that screen capture from when after he punches Joker in the stomach and he's saying "I've Got Your Name!, I've Got Your Ass!... etc"

Man, Kubrick really knows how to frame a character so well. Much to learn from that screen capture, thanx!

No problem. It took a few times to get it just right, and it shows.

I think we can all agree that Kubrick's work was amazing. 2001: A Space Odyssey was his best work. Simply ahead of its time. (As a few posters have already mentioned)

If you loved Kubrick's 2001 you should watch the "anti-2001" other sci-fi masterpiece Solaris from the 1970's directed by Andrei Tarkovsky. It's so beautiful that Kubrick gave props to it too.

God, even reading those words and his voice resonates in my head.

Likewise.

It just shows how powerful (and oh so funny) his character is to that movie. Even his last words we're something along the lines of that. Did you not get any attention when your were a child! :.762 FMJ Kills Ermey:

Actually HF clocks in if I remember correctly at 2 hours 7 minutes long. So 3X I think?

I thought you were talking about the series itself. Which would be 6x longer. In your case, just movie. The 1977 Star Wars run time is 121 Min or 2 hrs 1 min. HF run time is 139 min or 2 hours 19 min.

Hard to beat A Clockwork Orange, One Flew over the Cookoo's Nest, Animal House or the Star Wars series in my book.
