Yeah, I love them but what happened to the movement recently? I haven't seen too many Dogme 95 movies during 2004- plus Von Trier has gone off in a new direction...

Man, it has so much potential and well, we have nothing now?

I guess most danish movies don't hit the international market. Still, I agree that it has been very quiet from my western neighbor lately. One can only hope they don't follow us swedes and begin to produce pretentious crap.

Any good Swedish novels lately? I'm looking for stuff about 2003 - now.

just saw 300, and it was awesome! probably not the best character development, but the special effects and action scenes were dynamite.

Some 'not-to-miss' movies of the last several years:

Finding Neverland
Pan's Labyrinth
City of God
An Inconvenient Truth
V for Vendetta
The Queen
and
Crash

but my personal favourite:
Finding Nemo. :)

Notice I did not include any obscure movies, for I am not a film snob.

Forgot to mention Crash. Incredible movie, really made an impact on me.

...homophobic...

I haven't seen the film (and that's the way it's staying ;) ), but judging by the trailer - all buffed-up six-packs, leather jock-straps and well-oiled biceps - I thought the film would be more homo-erotic?

The best movie is either "little house on the prairie" or "starwars - revenge of the sith" yeah I know quite a differance. :p :D

A little from column A, a little from column B.

I found the movie, compelling interesting, visually compelling, and politically repulsive... all in all, one of the most interesting movies I've seen recently.

It's gotta be Metropolis!
Or the Shawshank Redemption
or Crash

Oh, 2001: A Space Odyssey is a great film also, which was mentioned right at the beginning of the thread :)

are u telling me u didnt like 300??!!!  :p

Of course not. I only liked that 4 minutes with Lena Hedley but that's about it.

...
Shame, no Pan's Labyrinth? Eek.

Most Overrated of 2006
...3) The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift
Was it ever considered overrated? I think it was universally panned. I saw the film* and it was utter junk.
*term used very loosely

WTC was safe, boring and predictable. Nothing I expected from the director of the now-classic Platoon.

Without starting a flame war or anything, can you really briefly tell me why you feel like that? Repulsive is a pretty strong word...

...was it the line that said something about "they have sex with boys" near the beginning? Thats all I can think of that could be in any way at all construed to be homophobic. Even then it more of a pedophilia thing to me. Im honestly asking because I want to know, not because I want to argue the point.

Otherwise the main political slant I could find was the few men fighting for freedom versus the rest of the "world". Freedom isnt free, etc. etc. etc.

Overall I thought it was pretty darn good. The fighting seemed a bit cheesy at times (for example, the enemy running straight forward with sword raised as high over head as possible, while the Spartans slash them across the stomach), but overall I give it a passing grade.

Oops, forgot about Pan's Labyrinth. I love that movie quite a bit! Very inventive :D Thanks for reminding me :D

Too much fighting indeed. I kept on thinking about the Bush connection with 300 and man that was too much for me.
