Looks like its 10 a year right now... I just don't like paying yearly subscription fees... I want to get Tom Tom. Though Navigon looks good too.
the fee is only for turn by turn voice commands.

I use Waze and Mapquest both free.
I don't see that as a disadvantage, especially if you're on Verizon. I've been using Google Navigation on a Motorola Droid for 2 years and I've never been in a situation where a map didn't load.just a word of warning about these low price or free mapping apps : they do not work without cellular signal !
MotionX GPS Drive. $20yr for voice turn by turn but worth it. Best I've used.
I use the TomTom app and it works great. There is no subscription as you pay everything up front and TomTom says they will provide lifetime maps upgrades to app users, so it's a good investment.
And please don't get me started on the price, it's $50 now and I paid $100 when it first came out, so yeah it's a good deal.
Alternatively you can use your Android phone in your car just for navigation?
You'll have GPS. You won't have maps. Your location (latitude and longitude) is fairly useless without map data.Additionally, if you are out of coverage, you won't have GPS with you.
I have on several occasions (also using Google Nav on a Droid on Verizon).I've been using Google Navigation on a Motorola Droid for 2 years and I've never been in a situation where a map didn't load.
I think TomTom is the best nav app to date...I've tried Navigon and prefer TomTom....
And to the person who said they paid $100 for TomTom you got ripped as it was NEVER that price, even on release day.
Mapquest for free is as good as it gets I think. There is another one that is free but has goofy icons... Looks like a kids game I heard that is ok as well it is free also and has traffic reports on it.
I will miss google navigation on my Evo.

just a word of warning about these low price or free mapping apps : they do not work without cellular signal ! [...] basically , there is no build in maps!
Navigon is fantastic- I swear by it. It's only $29 (no yearly fee) for great updates and maps for your region.
