I've used Navigon since it was released for the iPhone and I love it.

Also, I highly recommend using Appshopper.com to put any app that you want to buy on a wishlist and have them email you when the price drops. You can also see the lowest price they've sold for historically. Appshopper also has a free app that will send you alerts via your iPhone if you prefer.

With the holidays coming up the prices on these apps are sure to drop.

Waze, WAZE, WAZE all the way! :D

- Its free
- Really quick start up
- Real time traffic reports
- If traffic starts building up ahead of you it re-routes you around it
- Warnings up hazards or police on your route
- Tells you if a red light camera is ahead
- Tells you spoken directions even if screen is turned off
- Gently turns down music while speaking directions
- Its FREE ;)

Even if Navigon ($49 for U.S.) was free I would STILL use Waze instead...

Tom Tom doesn't have a US/Canada, only US/Mexico (no desire to step foot in that country) and Canada/Alaska. They have smartly screwed the people in the PNW.

Navigon has US/Canada.

They are both $60.

Looks like Navigon for me until they change it.

The UI on TT looks like it might be easier to understand ???

Tomtom us-can is the first map version that was released on iOS.

Nice try.

I love MapQuest. I use it all the time. It is the reason I didn't get NAV in my new car. Well that and I do have a Dedicated Garmin. However, I rarely use the Garmin anymore and depend on MapQuest almost exclusively.

I just picked up Waze as well, but haven't really started using it.

Another vote for Navigon here, I think that I paid $25 when I got it on sale, and other $5 each for pano view and live traffic, and it has been worth every bit! I really like it, I was planning on getting a dedicated GPS for the car, but there is no need now.

Waze is turn by turn free app.. Try it the best I used so far

Have you had no bad routing experiences with Waze? I was very disappointed with the routing.

Have you found a way to switch back and forth to a list view?

I'm asking these questions sincerely. Perhaps my bad routing experience was the exception.

Pete

I have been using MapQuest and love it.

I recently picked up Waze after hearing about all the raves here. It is very cool to keep up with traffic/radar traps/accidents etc on the trip home. I like how it does real time traffic updates based on user inputs. It is awesome for that.

However, it needs some work on the mapping side of the house. I used it on the way home and it didn't mention a turn before my street. It also seemed to be a little late with turn left on X. I was already in the turn lane when it said turn left.

But I will definitely be using it for my daily commute to help with traffic, construction, slow downs, accidents, cops etc..

TomTom does have US/Canda.

You are correct, it does.
I was directed to itunes from Tom Tom site where I did not see it, but in the App store there is one. That's on Tom Tom I guess.

At Costco I see they have Tom Tom 1500 TM for sale at 150.
The reviews are not great, a 3 on Costco's site, but on Tom Tom's they're almost a solid 5.
A quick check of GPS unit reviews shows the Garmin beats out Tom Tom.

Anyway, I'm thinking that when the times comes, I am going to pay up and get a real car unit rather than an app.
Most have a bigger screen and I'll be able to use my phone while using the GPS.

I think TomTom is the best nav app to date...I've tried Navigon and prefer TomTom....

And to the person who said they paid $100 for TomTom you got ripped as it was NEVER that price, even on release day.

Depends on what country - sure was here in Australia ($99 from memory) when I boubnt it, but the $ was not that great back then. I buy iTunes cards on special when they are 25% or more off, so app purchases are a bit cheaper anyway :)

Yeah, you are right it was never that price. It was $99.99. Oh look I saved all my itunes receipts.

I remembered when it was $100, I thought to myself my stand alone GPS was only $25 more

Yup, and I still think it was worth it because of that fact. Anyway, I don't like being called a liar so I posted my receipt. The funny thing is the day I bought that app I was flying out to Little Rock and my wife didn't want me to take her Garmin because she needed it for a trip she was taking.

Looks as if fuzion11 got egg on his face on this one. Nice going ericwalker :D

waze waze waze!!!!! Navigon is good too but if you're looking for free, look no further. Waze is surprisingly good, free turn by turn directions. For people complaining about routes, there is an option to choose 'routes' before choosing 'go' to view all your options to your destination. I've never had a problem with it and it is up to par to navigon and tom tom IMO. The only drawback is the maps are streamed via 3g and not stored on your phone, not really a big issue imo even if you're capped at 2GB.
