I'm calling the cops
What is the best phone out there(sub $250) that has: an MP3 player(and also AAC), at least a 2mp camera, 3G support(future proof), and a slot for a memory card?

It would also be a plus if it had a REAL headphone jack, not some proprietary jack.

It would also have to work with cingular.

Thanks!:)

I'm thinking of the RIZR with my graduation money. I'm 13 now. You can read about it here:

RIZR Link

I know it's with T-Mobile now, but it's GSM and could possibly be bought unlocked. Also, the RIZR Z8 seems to be exactly what you're looking for, although I'm not sure when it would be released and/or with whom.

^^You got graduation money for graduating elementary school? I got nothing because my parents expected me to pass. That's it.

What about a Sony Ericsson K750 or K800?? After being an SE user for years, I now have a Motorola mobile and I absolutely hate it. Sony Ericsson is the bomb ****. The only thing I like about it is the alarm clock, but I think the newer SE phones have multi-alarms as well.

Yeah. Well, I will anyway come June. It's not really that out-of-norm where I live. It's not money from my parents either, it's from relatives who wish to give something at the graduation party I'm going to have.

OP: Are you looking for a smart-phone or a small handset...? It would help if you could explain a little. I currently have a silver RAZR.

I am looking for a small candy-bar phone that can just do it all(yet I don't need email, vcast, or any of that stuff) Just where I can take nice pictures, listen to music, and make a good quality call.

I really do not have a recomendation for a phone becuase why do you need one? If your only 15 its not like you can drive, and anywhere you get a ride your mom or dad will probably know about. So save your money and get something more worthwhile. Trust me I thought that I needed a phone ever since I was 14 but now that im 17 I realize how much of a hassle it actually is. Sure it is nice sometimes but it is definetly not a necesisty until you drive. So anyways good luck on the phone search.

Since everyone else has a phone, I NEED a phone. How would I know where to go or for when my parents need to pick me up? Or when there's an emergency?

first of all which serice provider do your parents have?
and yes you are right kids these days need phones more than yester years.
The service provider helps draw the line between CDMA and GSM
(no intention of screaming with those caps i just like using those letters so im not yelling;) )
I havent updated my sig but i got my older sisters se w810i since she was elegible for an upgrade. And that phone is pretty good compared to the N-Gage i had a couple years ago and compared to my very recent w300i

Ahem..

^^Lets face it. You're getting a mobile because you want one. You don't need one, but you want one. All those reasons just seem like a bad justification for one. I survived without a mobile until I was 19, and I'm not THAT old. I would go out with my friends all over the place. You couldn't hold me down.

But really, if you want a mobile, they're not bad to own. I like having it, although I really don't use it often. Of course, I'm not in high school anymore, either.

If I were you, I'd just worry about getting a mobile with an mp3 player. The camera is never going to be very good, although some are capable of taking some average photos or better.

i dont know cuz i am not from teh states i live in canada and we don t have cingular here, but sony w810 is got all you want and it s a gsm so u can probably get it unlocked oh wait,, i dunno about AAC i think only motorolas have that but i m not sure, just a guess..

the phone finder on phonescoop couldnt give me any phones based on your needs. But thats just one site. Try ebay? I know cingular has some pretty good music phones but none have all of your needs.
I personally want a Helio Ocean for 8th grade graduation.. but you have to stay with cingular. But if you would need something to work with cingular I definitely would take a Rizr. I like the Z6 or Z8 but those are my recomendations since your needs dont fit the W810i that i like

I beleive I NEED a cell phone for my life, considering in this day and age every teacher requires their students to have Broadband.

I think the sony phones are OK, but I don't really like their buttons. Is the sync(samsung) ok? I am out of contract BTW, so I can either get on cheap(yet 2 year contract), or an unlocked one off ebay.

Let me be the first to tell you.. all the upgrade price is and the contract extension prices aren't that great my sis only got a 30 dollar discount on a phone. SO 30 dollars off a 225 dollar phone isnt that great. and that was for a Slvr btw

Yeh but the sync goes for over 200 dollars rather then 49.99 if you don;t have a contract. And I would rather stay OUT of contract.

I believe this will suit your needs perfectly. I remember "back in the day", pagers were a luxury item few high school students could afford. :) Is corporal punishment doled out if you're still using dialup?

I don't live in the States, but I do know Cingular pretty well. Really, if you want that many features, then Moto RAZR OR KRZR is the way to go but I highly not recommend Motorola. I might be offending many users here, but I can tell you Motorola is the worst cell phone company there is. Unless you don't want to show off your phone to your friends and not mind changing the phone for a year, then go ahed get the Motorola. Beware though, it is really fragile and battery life is horrible after three months. Especially with the MP3-able ones.

Now if want 3G, there aren't many choices either. I don't find 3G too useful since I don't surf the web on my phone nor do a lot of Video Calling. Now if 3G is not needed, which I don't think it is really, I highly recommend any Sony Ericsson phone (like with Walkman, etc.). I'm actually quite surprised that none of the US carriers have K800i or K790. One of the best phones out there (though the newer K810i is better).

Nokia phones... mmmm... they're alright. Depends which ones. The newer ones with update Symbian (phone OS) is much better. Ones can include 5300 Xpress Music by TMobile.

LG phones... okay too. Not the best choice.

As I said earlier, Sony Ericsson phones are the way to go. I have a Z610i, the best phone out there XD! I dropped mine in the snow for fiveteen minutes with skis running on it. There were little scratches and the phone was still working as usual. My older T610i was with me for three years and the battery is still good. But if you are a power user (as in types or edits documents on your phone), Sony Ericsson is not the way to go.

Your choice, figure out a phone company (not operator) before you choose the phone. That's what I do.

Nokia 6233.

It just does everything, has 3G and 2Mpix camera.
And it looks sort of like an iPhone, but with plastic buttons. :)
It feels very hi-end, not like those Sony Ericsson phones with cheap plastic.

Also.. avoid any Motorolas at any cost. I'm telling this you from my personal experience.. they are overpriced and very underpowered.. not even talking about it's sluggish OS..

Yeah but you can obtain broadband at any local public library...For the cell phone...you don't NEED one like you say you do. I have known a lot of people who should have had one but didn't get one until 20ish....But if you WANT one, so that you can stay in touch with friends, and discuss pick up times with your parents than I don't see any reason you would spend money on one. Get a free one!!! New contracts through Cingular offer several options for free phones. No reason not to for a 15 year old.

The answer is obvious iPod + the MotoFone F3! I personally don't have a motofone but it looks alright for a ~US$50 ( its AUD$69) the phone just makes calls and SMS no camera,video,mp3,games etc. you don't need it at 15 and it looks pretty sturdy and because its so cheap it won't matter if you lose it at some party. I'm 16 atm and I understand that when ur 14/15 you just want the latest stuff but eventually you understand you don't need half the stuff. So I recommend you get a motofone and if you don't have a one an ipod/mp3 player. But if need all the multimedia capabilities the Nokia 6233 that Piepz showed is pretty my mate has one of em.

I have a sidekick 3. They just lowered the price to 180! It has everything you asked for except for 3G support. At least that I know of.
