I don't live in the States, but I do know Cingular pretty well. Really, if you want that many features, then Moto RAZR OR KRZR is the way to go but I highly not recommend Motorola. I might be offending many users here, but I can tell you Motorola is the worst cell phone company there is. Unless you don't want to show off your phone to your friends and not mind changing the phone for a year, then go ahed get the Motorola. Beware though, it is really fragile and battery life is horrible after three months. Especially with the MP3-able ones.

Now if want 3G, there aren't many choices either. I don't find 3G too useful since I don't surf the web on my phone nor do a lot of Video Calling. Now if 3G is not needed, which I don't think it is really, I highly recommend any Sony Ericsson phone (like with Walkman, etc.). I'm actually quite surprised that none of the US carriers have K800i or K790. One of the best phones out there (though the newer K810i is better).

Nokia phones... mmmm... they're alright. Depends which ones. The newer ones with update Symbian (phone OS) is much better. Ones can include 5300 Xpress Music by TMobile.

LG phones... okay too. Not the best choice.

As I said earlier, Sony Ericsson phones are the way to go. I have a Z610i, the best phone out there XD! I dropped mine in the snow for fiveteen minutes with skis running on it. There were little scratches and the phone was still working as usual. My older T610i was with me for three years and the battery is still good. But if you are a power user (as in types or edits documents on your phone), Sony Ericsson is not the way to go.

Your choice, figure out a phone company (not operator) before you choose the phone. That's what I do.

First, a little correction - the Nokia 5300 is not a Symbian phone, instead, it uses the Series 40 platform. Trust me, I'm using it now. My previous phone was the Motorola SLVR - the only good thing about it was the design. Everything else sucked big time. My suggestion - go with Nokia - they're very durable, my fell from the third floor and only has some scratches, the firmware is good and the battery life is decent. And by the way, in my country (Bulgaria) kids get their first phones when they're about 10. Just saying

Since everyone else has a phone, I NEED a phone. How would I know where to go or for when my parents need to pick me up? Or when there's an emergency?

Well, In my day...we didn't have no parents picking us up from school...we walked home. And we liked it! And sometimes it would pour rain, but did we sit around and cry and whine about not being able call our parents? Heck no, 'cuz in those days...we didn't have no mo-bile te-le-phones, we didn't have no cing-u-lar...so we walked home. And we liked it! Even when it would snow, we walked and we walked until our shoes wore out and our legs became little bloody stumps...and every once a while a big chunk of flesh would peel off from our leg bone and a dog would come out into the cold and chomp it down right in front of us...and we'd look and we'd smile...because we liked it!

Nokia 6233.

It just does everything, has 3G and 2Mpix camera.
And it looks sort of like an iPhone, but with plastic buttons. :)
It feels very hi-end, not like those Sony Ericsson phones with cheap plastic.

Also.. avoid any Motorolas at any cost. I'm telling this you from my personal experience.. they are overpriced and very underpowered.. not even talking about it's sluggish OS..

Is that available in America? I was also checking out the Nokia 5300, how is it? It's just a tad small then my Treo 650(don;t ask my I have one, it's temporary)

I can confirm that this is a good phone. My friend has it and its solid to hold and responsive and looks good.

But personally, that symbian OS.....gives me the creeps. Ever since i used the Nokia N80, i have come to have a strong disliking for Symbian.

That's not Symbian OS in it. It's called S40 v3 OS..

Umm.. sorry, I think it's only available in Europe :/

Just checked www.nokiausa.com , damn, you have such a small selection of Nokias over there.. :(

If I'm not mistaken, Symbian is the OS used by Nokia and high-end Sony Ericssons. S40 and S60 are Nokia's user interfaces on the OS; by contrast SE uses UIQ, which is designed around touchscreens. Don't shy away from Symbian phones, I have a SE P800 (older smartphone) and will never go back...

LOL, my sentiment exactly.

Kids these days are spoiled rotten. ;P Kids growing up in the digital age sheesh. :D

I've very spoiled:D Yet there is a difference between spoiled and spoiled rotten. When I say spoiled I mean that I have a TON of opportunities open for me.

Is there a reason you need all 3 (phone, camera, mp3 player) in one device, other than the "cool" factor?

You're going to be sacrificing performance in 1, 2, or all 3 areas by combining these into one device. You can get an iPod Nano or Shuffle refurb or off of eBay, a > 2mp camera, and a phone that actually functions well as a phone for this sum.

Plus, if any of these break, you don't have to do without the other two, unlike with your 1 device.

Don't get me wrong, an all-in-one is great if you can afford the higher quality devices, but I don't think it makes sense for you.

My two cents.

get a SE K790/800/810, well constructed and it's actually good at ALL the features that you want. you can get an adapter for real headphone jack on ebay for $10 or so. the comparable nokias in this price rage tend to be made out of cheap plastic with cameras that only look good on paper.

skip moto at all cost. no one should pay for a moto phone given its crippled OS.

I am looking for a small candy-bar phone that can just do it all(yet I don't need email, vcast, or any of that stuff) Just where I can take nice pictures, listen to music, and make a good quality call.

I got the enV, amazing phone. It is a candy bar from the outside, but when you open it up it has endless features! Not to mention it has the best quality speakers of probably every phone out there.

LOL, my sentiment exactly.

I got one dollar for passing the third grade... but that was a "present" from the school, not my parents. I didnt get anything from them.

payphone?

Hah, yeah no doubt.

Anyone see that episode of MadTV where Stephanie Weir's character, an old woman, is run over by Mo Collins character, a suburban wife, who's driving a monster of an SUV. The police is interviewing both of them and Weir happens to mention that Collins character couldn't have possibly have seen her because Collins was talking on her cell phone. Weir asks whether they would like to see her cell phone and promptly digs out a quarter from her purse. Classic!

Well, the S60 is symbian-based. S40 is not.

Personally, I really like the Symbian S60. There are just so many third party applications available. All the way from Nintendo emulators to FTP- and SSH-clients and MSN/AOL/IRC-clients.

S40 can oly run Java-apps (S60 apps can be C/C++), so it's rather limited.

And I'd love to try one of the SE symbian UIQ phones. They're just so bloody expensive :p

PS.

Same here in Finland. If you don't own a cell phone by the age of 13, you're are freak!

I've had sony ericssons for the last 4 yrs and they are great phones. I recently upgraded from my T610i to a K610im and its a very nice phone. Has 3G, music player (mp3 and AAC), 2mp camera and takes Sony M2 micro memory sticks up to 2GB(mine has a 1GB card in it). I'm very happy with it.
It has good call reception and voice quality. The ringtones and the loudspeaker are really loud so I never miss a call. As well as this, with my current service (O2 Ireland) it supports push email so now i can have my forwarded Gmails delivered to my phone for free. I'm very happy with it.
Only complaint I could have is that it supports a new form of Java, 2.5 i think. Therefore, it is only capable of playing Doja Java games and not the widely available J2ME java ones. That being said if you're buying a mobile phone to play games just get a Nintendo DS or a PSP instead.

Sony Ericsson, no doubt. My K750i plays AAC, 3gp video, has a decent camera and great battery life. No 3g though, but the later models do.

The answer is obvious iPod + the MotoFone F3! I personally don't have a motofone but it looks alright for a ~US$50 ( its AUD$69) the phone just makes calls and SMS no camera,video,mp3,games etc. you don't need it at 15 and it looks pretty sturdy and because its so cheap it won't matter if you lose it at some party. I'm 16 atm and I understand that when ur 14/15 you just want the latest stuff but eventually you understand you don't need half the stuff. So I recommend you get a motofone and if you don't have a one an ipod/mp3 player. But if need all the multimedia capabilities the Nokia 6233 that Piepz showed is pretty my mate has one of em.

Best advice, IMO. He "needs" a phone with a camera and mp3. Riiiight.

I don't mind if he wants a nice phone because he "desires" it and his parents spoil him. I mind it when people say they need a $250 phone for bullspit reasons when that's not the reason at all.

But despite giving the best advice, I'm sure the OP is going to want his mp3 phone that gets like 2.5 hours of battery life.

payphone?

Which brand makes that one?

But most importantly.......is it 3G?

I don't understand why I'm getting flamed at for wanting to have everything in one device. Have you failed to see that a large amount of people on this forum want an iPhone? I don't really want it for the "cool" factor at all. I want a phone that can do it all so I don;t need to carry around 3 devices.

Anyways. Thanks for all of the replys. I'm still looking for a phone. I like the Nokia 5300, but it's only a little thinner then my Treo. There are NO phones for a reasonable price in America.

Personally I don't care for cellphones, my V3 RAZR is probably the worst spec phone I could've chosen and I regret buying it. But it fullfills the functions I need; calling, sms, and basic applications (Gmail, Opera, MXit) and thus next time I get to upgrade my phone on the contract I'm going to look at getting one that comes with a free something but a crappy phone.

Erm...it wasn't a flame. It was a thoughtful suggestion based on criteria you gave.

Seconded, being a long time Nokia (used Nokia since they had the 5110... or what's that model?! It was a huge phone), I recently got a K800i and was very surprised at how nice the interface of SE phones are.

User interface is everything! Go for one that has easy to use menus.
